Arsenal snap up striker from rivals? Arsene scouting Mertesacker replacement?

Morning all.

According to The Mail, MLS defender Matt Miazga is on his way to the Premier League and a deal will be completed before the week is out.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on snapping up the youngster but so are Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City.

With Per Mertesacker getting older, 32 later this year and slower so another defender with a bit of height and pace wouldn’t go amiss at the back. Laurent Koscielny turns 31 years old later this year so he too might need replacing soon. We have Gabriel of course and Chambers but the latter has a lot to prove before being considered as a starter, especially in defence.

Miazga would certainly suit Arsene Wenger when it comes to the financial package as he’s reported to be valued at just £3.5 million. He has one year left on his contract and having turned down a new contract just before Christmas, he clearly wants bigger and better things.

£40 million plus for Stones, or £3.5 million for the American? 😉

Remember him?
Remember him?

Here’s a few ‘facts’ about him from The Mail Online:

He’s played well in Major League Soccer. He’s 20, strong in the air and a force in both boxes. At 6ft 4in, he’s a strong boy.

He was born in New Jersey and has a Polish passport, which helps English clubs. There are no work permit fights to be had. He chooses where he wants to sign and that’s where he goes. Deal done. He’s played 39 games in the MLS.

He signed for the New York Red Bulls academy when he was 14. People have known about him for a long time. Scouts have flocked to watch him. Up to ten Premier League clubs have scouted him, including all the big teams.

He’s tall, powerful and has a strong leap. He can handle the physical part of the game too. He won’t be bullied.

I wonder if Stan Kroenke is sorting this one out for Arsene…..

Bit of news on the Ladies who are on the verge of snapping up a striker from WSL rivals Liverpool. Asisat Oshoala apparently had a release clause in her contract which Arsenal have only gone and activated.

Guess there was no odd ‘£1’ included in that offer…

Have a good day guys….

    Morning Adam…

I wonder, do the idiots that dream up these non-stories, like Morata, really know so little about Arsenal, Arsene Wenger and the way he does business?

    It’s all very tedious…

  2. Iceman says:

Adam – I hope you are right, but he hasn’t found his best position in 10 years. On Sunday, he had the ideal opportunity to play central striker but still faffed about on the wings, drifting in and out of the game. If only he had Wrighty’s aggression!

  3. Lee says:

Another over paid powder puff footballer the squad is littered with them….. might be the manager’s fault?!?! #justsaying.

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Sun is shining here…..but cold. Just as I love it.

Theo for 100million??? lol. 100million for what??? For running up blind alleys. Then Joel must be worth more.

If Theo was that good why haven’t Barca, RM, BM come knocking on the door? Look at Aaron…..Barca want him. Are ready to pay bucket loads. He has good and bad games like everyone….but he is quality.

Ahh yes…..the dippers were interested in Theo. But only under Brenda.

  5. Hell Raising Devil says:

That is open to debate Rico. But still…..Aaron was mentioned in the same breath as Barca in the papers……..I wonder why Theo has never been mentioned on that level.

Putting him as captain really irked me last game.

  6. allezkev says:

I really admired the way, in the Gunners PH, that Scott moved around the table tennis table…

    A bit like Mertesaker ?

  7. potter says:

Difficult day today have got my 2 year old grandaughter at soft play. I need eyes up my backside, Clattenburg would be lost in here.

  8. bradster says:

    Hi All,

I don’t think the arm band means much at Arsenal. Wenger used to give it to players wanting to leave even if they were terrible leaders.
Current Club Captain hardly played the last 2 seasons but keeps the title. I’ve not seen lately our captain instructing anyone or getting the guys up if we go a goal or 2 down.

  9. Wavy says:

Proper captain? Frank McLintock. Isn’t that right Kev? No soft play ares with him at the helm.?

Afternoon all. Wet and windy here a bit like my b…….., too much information!

  10. Micko says:

Excuse the pun but I can’t see Merts going anywhere in a hurry !

Morata’s the new Benzema, we’ll be linked to him for the next 10 years, it’s written in the stars.

  11. rico says:

Haven’t we been linked to him before Micko, before he went to Italy? A loan deal was almost done if we are to believe the media… lol

  12. Micko says:

That’s right rico but that would have killed Sanogo, he’d have probably ended up playing for some reserve team in the Dutch league somewhere.

  13. Rick says:

Good Evening to anyone who is reading, just a short visit.
The next four days are very busy and important for the club and for me.
Tomorrow I have a rather belated ( Doc’s strike) hospital appointment, where I hope to have some great news,
On Friday the U18’s are away to AVilla and the U16’s are also away to Villa on Sat Morning.
The U21’s are away to Stoke on Sat afternoon at the same time as the game v Burnley
Some juggling required with team selections I think.

Then on Sunday it is crunch time at Hale End when around about 20 young school boys will find out if they have a future at our academy. Good luck to those who make it and hard luck to those who do not.

While they are finding out their fate my better half and I will be enjoying some Double Diamond
Bubbly and much more with our family and very close friends, its a day I thought I would never see.
    Night all.

  14. Micko says:

Nice one Kev, that’s a little bit like telling tsgh Arteta won’t be about next season, wouldn’t like to be the one to draw the short straw !

Elneny to make his debut this weekend, bet he must be thinking ‘ Who the fcuk are Burnley’

Burnley fans must thinking ‘Who the fcuk is Morata’……gotta love the January transfer window.

    Nite Gooners.

  15. Micko says:

Rick, rest assured, I will be raising a glass to you come Sunday matey, sounds like a very special day for you and your family, have a great time.

  16. Wath says:

Rick, I don’t need an excuse to raise a glass to anything but sounds very special and here’s wishing you and the family all the best so I’ll make mine a treble just for you and to your good health.

Micko you scoundrel, poor old Ts will now be crying himself to sleep til Jne worrying about Mikel..!

  17. allezkev says:

Rick, let me echo the previous sentiments from Mick, Wath and Adam…

You can’t put a price on your health mate.
Good news for you and yours will be on my mind as I also will raise a glass or three to you…

Night All, gotta get some kip as a virgin is visiting me tomorrow (today) ?

  18. Orfevrerie says:

    Well Rico,

Looks like your hope of Miazga as Mert’s long term replacement is over.

Looks like he signed for Chelscum. Shoot, they already have JT, Zouma, and Cahill, and still they strengthening their more than enough CBs.

  19. Lee says:

    GOOD LUCK Rick!!!!

Isco is available for £25m apparently………. FFS make that happen!

Andriy Yarmolenko has apparently signed for us for £23m…. busy old Arsene!! 😉

  20. rico says:

    Morning Lee and all..

Rick, I too hope you get great news today, and have a fab day on Sunday. I’ll be raising a glass of soda with lime to you both.. 🙂

  21. tsgh says:

    Good morning Rico and all,

Micko, Wath- i have cried me a river so many times with regards to Arteta approaching his ‘end’… well, life goes on I will find another fave. 🙂

How many fans on here wanted Morata before he left for Turin..
another player Aw again having read HH decided to stay away from. 😛

  22. scottfromoz says:

Cahill was the “bees knees” not long ago.
He was over rated then, and is now….he’s also stained having played for that mob.
Before that it was UTD and Jones.
Young defenders can impress, but better off buying an established guy….Hector is an exception 🙂
Hopefully, Stones has more class than to allow himself be sold out.
    Hi Rico.
    Another day in paradise.
A mates brother has a head on with a semi trailer….only one ending there.
44 and just headed to work.
    Strange, strange world…..

  23. rico says:

I thought Cahill was pretty good tbh, but since he’s been at Chelsea, he’s just turned into another thug. Perhaps he was all along…

  24. Lee says:

I always rated Cahill… didn’t Wenger take the piss with a derisory bid for him whilst he was at Bolton???

    Very unlike Wenger that eh???

  25. allezkev says:

I always liked Cahill and he’s won himself a few titles at Chelsea, so he isn’t rubbish, it’s just that Hiddink doesn’t fancy him…

I wonder if Hiddink is gonna get the Chavs job full-time in the summer…

  26. allezkev says:

Just tried my TV, Adam, she’s a beauty…

My virgin doesn’t turn up till the afternoon mate. Just doing some prep…

MotD this Saturday and Sunday in Hi-Def… ?
