Morning all.
I have always been like this. My career won’t last forever and I am aiming to be one of the best players in the world. I want to do my best and be professional until my career ends.
I enjoy football a lot, I always wanted to be one of the best players in the world and I’ve been saying that since I was a little boy. I will slow down after I retire, but for the time being I will carry on like this.
I just try to train well, sleep well and be professional at my job.
There’s not much of a secret to it. – Alexis Sanchez told the Arsenal Player.
Which is probably why he doesn’t spend too much time partying in the city and making life difficult for himself. Alexis recent comments about finding London ‘stressful’ should be no surprise as it is a big city, a place full off hustle, bustel and paps! Some high profile people love seeing their face pictured on the front or back pages of newspapers each morning, others don’t. Alexis is clearly the latter. He loves his dogs and doesn’t like leaving them, so I’m hardly surprised he prefers to stay home and relax. In any case, one can’t burn the candle at both ends, certainly not when that person is a top sportsman who is striving to be the best in the world.
So as much as the media have chosen to twist his comments into another negative in his contract situation, for me, it all makes sense. Any sports-persons career is short and for those few years of being at the top, they have to make sacrifices, mind you, it’s certainly worth it when checking their bank balance each month.
This time of year it’s all about footballers doing good things. Going to local hospitals with gifts for children who are struggling with their health and giving them something to smile about, even if it is for just one day. There’s youngsters parties too and this year, Alexis Sanchez was among the players who entertained 150 young fans, who were picked to attend a festive fun-day at the club but he wasn’t alone apparently as others like Mesut Ozil, Hector Bellerin, Oliver Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all joined in.
But there’s no Christmas party for the players according to The Mirror. That’s been cancelled following two dreadful back to back losses. ‘Senior players, like Petr Cech and captain Laurent Koscielny, were concerned about the message it would send if they were pictured partying in comedy costumes.’ writes John Cross….
To be honest, the way Arsenal have played in the last two fixtures, they look like a team who had been partying the night before and were still struggling to shake off their hangover the following evening! Not all I know, but the majority. The defending was like something out of a pantomime and I still can’t believe that not one player thought to track Ashley Williams at Everton. Just as I find it hard to understand why the linesman at The Etihad couldn’t spot a simple offside which allowed City back into the match. No excuse for the way we played of course but the officials this year have been worse than ever and not just in an Arsenal match. Some of the high flying tackles which have been seen as bookings, when the player should have been sent off are nothing short of a disgrace. Barkley, Rojo and even Ibra should all be serving a three match ban right now but no, only a cynical and soft tackle by Granit Xhaka deserves that.
Anyway, next up for us is West Brom on Boxing Day. I wonder which pantomime villain with his whistle will try and ruin this one….
Finally, Reiss Nelson has signed his first professional contract for Arsenal. The 17 year old is already a regular for Arsenal’s under-23s. He’s an England youth international too scoring nine goals in 10 matches for his country at the European Under-17 Championship in Azerbaijan this summer.
One to look forward to watching perhaps. Certainly a nice Christmas present for the young man…
Have a good day guys and gals….
Danny Welbeck is back in training today, as is Ramsey. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury isn’t serious either so all good news from AW’s press conference….
Morning Rico and all. Another excellent and topical post. I can’t help thinking that the next few games will be season-defining, especially after our horrible recent performances.
Morning Adam, thank you.
Ditto, all on paper are games we really should be winning…. However…
Seems to me there is a subtle campaign going on in the media preparing us for the seemingly inevitable announcement of a new contract for Arsene. They are having difficulty balancing that with the customary scare stories about our two players who might, or might not, sign new contracts.
It’s all a bit deja-vu and just a tad desperate. Still, perhaps success will spring from the jaws of adversity. 🙂
The media are about as predictable as our football… 😉
I would say more predictable myself. 🙂
£52 million for Oscar?? China has gone mad…
🙂
Morning guys.
As always, we grab the popcorn, sit back and wait to see what happens.
It’s never boring lol
Are you sure Scott… 😉
Thanks Rico, you just made me remember that colourful character Sammy Nelson……God, I’m getting old !
Join the ‘old club’ Steve….
Afternoon All
Afternoon Rico, that was a really good post.
I might be mistaken, but the majority of foreign players moving to China are Brazilian, I think that Wenger was hinting as much in his presser…
When a Jack Wilshere or a Ross Barclay or a Daniel Sturridge moves to China, in their prime, then that’s the time to be alarmed.
All the same, the Chinese are coming, wads of yen in hand.
I guess it’s an option when you want to sell a good player but don’t want to strengthen a rival domestically or even in terms of the CL…
As far as new signings in January Rico, step forward Danny Welbeck, Chuba Akpom, Per Mertesaker, Skoduran Mustafi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mathieu Debuchy. Job done…
Afternoon Kev, thank you…
Or a Chilean, him going to China wouldn’t be good… 😉
And Ramsey, he’ll make a difference…. 😳
Hope your not referring to goal difference rico !
For or against Micko? Lol
Afternoon and thanks Rico for another quality post.
Cant wait for Alan Brazil to go to China……….cant stand him on talkport !
Something festive I think to cheer us up, altogether now ………….a one, a two, a one two three……………………..

LC, I have a feeling we might not be laughing at the end of this season….
Afternoon all.
Still want to talk about Sanchez.Nothing in the above quote says he wants to stay wih us.We won’t pay his demands anif he goes it shows yet again we are a selling club.
This is 10 years on from the move with a reported 195 million spare cash and we should be building a team around Sanchez,Ozil,Kos and bellerin.Add Mustaphi and cech. The rest need to prove themselves or be discarded.
Wenger is the problem we all know how predictable he is but Kroenke is the bigger problem, he won’t invest with his own money.
I will always support but my expectations are low so anything else is a bonus.
Kelsey, nothing says he doesn’t either though….
rico, my thoughts are with Alan Pardew this evening, how’s he supposed to feed his family on 2.5 million compensation this Christmas, there’s always some-one worse off than ourselves ! Just ask the Yiddo outside your window lol.
Ha ha Micko….
rico, fellow Houser’s, have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Go easy on the Christmas pudding…..contrary to popular belief Wath has feelings too !
London calling, a couple of games to take in for my sins.
Got a little bit of gossip for ya when I get back rico ! Bet you can’t wait lol.
Travel safely Micko, Merry Christmas to you and yours too…
Gossip, I don’t do gossip… 😉
Hi Rico ….and Merry Xmas to all ya !!!!
I read the total salary we pay is around 200 mil.Although look like spread-ed kind of equally.
If so why is Kronke or the board get question this time around ?
I mean if all the dross that are paid around 100 k/w who suppose to be questioned for that?
It is Wenger that is not using the resources efficiently in my eyes.
The likes of Feo Ramsey Ox they run behind him like puppies and is happy to splash the club money with little accountability .
The suspect to me is the manager as the club i dont think they been restrictive in any way.
Merry Xmas
Hi Alex, not sure what you are trying to say there.. could just be me though… lol
Night guys..
Catch up another day…
Good morning Gooners,
Having taken a mandatory media blackout since Everton, I finally eased my sanctions to watch the respective responses to the last 2 away results on Arsenal Fan TV.
Like you English say, “Cor blimey”. I think the Claude v Ty spat after the city loss pretty much sums up what the last 12 years of Arsene Wenger’s tenure @ Arsenal has done to the fans/supporters. It’s not a good look, & all rival fans would be pissing themselves over it.
For me, after giving it a lot of thought & weighing up the positives & negatives about the current manager’s future, Arsene Wenger should pull the pin. I was hoping he would go out on top by winning the Title, coz he deserves to be remembered for all the good things he’s done for The Club. But, like anyone who suffers from Magabe Syndrome he can’t bring himself to relinquish power. And let me say this, if Arsene Wenger is given the task to hand pick his successor, it’s not in his interest to anoint someone who will perform better in the results department, straight after his largely barren last 12 seasons.
For me, the Board & Stan Yankee are the problem. They don’t have the will in them to see past a gaffer who is of the same vintage as them. So to all those who want change @ The Arsenal, don’t pick on Arsene Wenger, concentrate on the Board/The Yank. Keep naming & shaming them publicly. Offend the Yank & The Board with your banners, coz no one will ever defend them publicly like those who are prepared to defend Arsene Wenger. Defending The Board & Stan, would be like people defending banks, It just doesn’t happen?
Hi Rico
Blame vodka
Cheeeers
Doing Tesco at this time of the morning is not to be recommended…
But that’s the way the cookie crumbles…
