Arsenal out, Arteta might be off but Winger confirms he wants to stay…

Morning all.

So out we went again at the same old stage we like to each Spring.

It’d be easy to say ‘just one more goal’ and yes, that’s all we needed last like in order to progress.

However, until we either learn to do better in the Group stages and top the league in order to avoid tricky ties as in the past, or, when we play at The Emirates we produce a much better performance which doesn’t leave us a mountain to climb in the away fixture, we’ll always be a long way away from glory in the Champions League.

I was listening to Stuart Pearce on Sky Sports yesterday morning and he said that in some ways, it’s better to shut up shop at home, concentrate on not conceding a goal and even take 0-0 into the away leg and the way we play in Europe, he makes a good point. One only has to look at the last couple of seasons to know that had we’d be able to do that, we’d have been through to the next round at this stage.

But we don’t…..

Charlie Nicholas reckoned that when Arsenal play like they did last night, they are world class and only Barcelona are perhaps better. He’s right isn’t he, that performance last night was superb, it really was….

Anyway, the Champions League dream is over and it’s back to the Premier League and the FA Cup..

No distraction, no sulking and no feeling sorry for themselves. Take that performance and repeat it match after match until the end of May. Get that 2nd spot, win the FA Cup and don’t look back!

Bit of news re a couple of our players:-

Serge Gnabry is fit and ready to play having tweeted:

After not having trained for a few days as a measure of precaution I’m finally back with the team & fit as a fiddle!

Good news. He’s a bit like Oxlade-Chamberlain – not afraid of the opposition and works hard. He could yet have a part to play in our remaining fixtures.

Wellington Silva who has been out on loan ever since we signed him, has only one year left on his contract but the 22 year old hopes to stay longer:

My agent told me recently because we are trying to sort out my renewal. I only have a year with Arsenal.

I want to do pre-season there and I’m very happy about this news. But I am currently with Almeria and my thoughts are here. We have to achieve our goal of safety.

He’s been labelled many things, from an overweight pizza lover to the ‘next Neymar’ – if he’s staying at Arsenal, let’s hope he’s nearer the latter.

Finally, there’s a story doing the round which suggests Mikel Arteta is set for a return to Spain with Real Sociedad to play for his old manager David Moyes.

Oh well, time will tell….

Enough of my ramblings, have a good day all..

Yep, wishing you all the best today Potter.

Good post Rico, you get nothing for great effort being close you still get knocked out… What we need to do it realise the first leg was a complete fuck up which seems to be the consensus and aim at 2nd in the league and winning the cup. All about focus now from the team and to not sulk and getting knocked out the CL.

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies

As usual, year after year at the same stage I am pissed off. I would like 0-0 at home and 1-1 away……in that way we will pass the round. yes not win but perhaps better.

its all tactics and how they are used in my opinion

  3. rico says:

    Thanks Wath..

As much as it’s frustrating that we cocked up at home, as usual in the CL, I’m not too fussed about us going out of the CL. Not if it means we push City and Chelsea all the way until the end…

And of course retain the cup…

no heads bowed no feeling sorry for ourselves. Hold your heads high gooners. The lads acquitted themselves superbly. I was very impressed with the tenacity and skill of ozil santi kozzer even welbeck had a stormer. Be very afraid jose. we are coming for you. If I can get into the dressing room last night I ll buy them all a pint. What a classy game of football. It didn’t do us any harm last night. All over Europe and the world saw that game and a good advertisement for us. So glad we showed up. Any lingering doubts a would be target had would have been banished last night. Am so chuffed. what a team. Arsene wenger got it right. So proud to be a gooner this morning. COYFGS 😀 :

  5. goonster says:

Cheer up you miserable lot. The lads put in a shift that’s all we asked for. We played some fabulous football last night. from defense to offense we were impeccable. I don’t know about you guys but I saw a lot of positives in that game. Finally a way to beat maureen and his double decker buses. If we play at this same intensity in the big games it ll take a combined team made up of Madrid and barfa players to beat us. I was so fucking awed. Is this my arsenal or barfa 2010?? We were imperious. Ooh how I enjoyed every bit of it. You guys see defeat I see progress. Don’t sell anyone keep all the players. Get Morgan and a new keeper and let’s do this again next season. Come on arsenal.

  6. goonster says:

Rico we did all we could. the lads didn’t shy away from 50 50 challenges. We were up for it from kick off to the final whistle. That’s all am asking for. On another night we could have battered them. plus the ref was a cnut. a stonewall penalty was overlooked. Alexis had lumps kicked in him all game yet nothing happened
It wasn’t our night. Let’s win the league next season. Like mama used to say charity begins at home. Win the league then it ll be a launch pad for other successes. Even in europe. Bayern barca even the bloody chavs had to win successive league titles beforr mounting a huge assault on the old big ears. Inter Milan won the scudetto 3 years in a row. Keeping the same players adding a few world beaters then bam they won it. Let’s win the league again then take it up from there. Wining breeds confidence. We re the arsenal

  7. Joaquim Moreira says:

We made a great performance yesterday.
We did enough to score 3 goals.
In my opinion, went out the best team.
Apart from two balls hitn the posts (one after gave goal), there is a clear delay to the keeper that was not disclosed and still in doubt if there was a ball that did not enter.
Again we left, because as usual, the teams that finish in 2nd place in their groups, are eliminated (Monaco was 1 in his group).

  8. goonster says:

Maam if the chavs slip up again….I see us wining the league. Someone needs to get in that dressing room. Show them the tape of this game. That’s whats required in every game. we ll smash the poop in the cup final if we play like that. Onwards and upwards. We are the mighty arsenal 😀 :

  9. goonster says:

Ok kozzer has got to be in the top 5 center backs in europe right now. He’s so fucking underated. If he was playing for another team arsenal fans and some addled brained pundits ll be licking his ass. Thats the third game in a row he’s been a masterclass. What a player. after last night performance I see a plethora of bids coming in for hin. Brace yourselves arsenal. Incoming 😀 :

  10. bripriukb says:

I think a heroic failure was a good result – we’re not quite ready to win it yet (next season :-)) and we can concentrate on coming at least second. We’ve also come out of it with our confidence intact, unlike Nosferatu and the Chavs, and Man C.
Villa wiil be a test, but their new attacking style will siut us, so I expect a good win.
    Brian

  11. Hell Raising Devil says:

Yes and no Rico. Imo its better 0-0. If AFC were 1-0 up the other team would come out with a different tactics than if it was 0-0. The game would be only at halftime when the 2nd leg begins.and 0-0 favours the away team of the 2nd leg.

  12. rockyrocastle07 says:

Oh, good luck Potter – Apologies, not been on here for a while so not sure whats going on, but hope whatever it is goes well!

  13. rockyrocastle07 says:

Really thought he was wasteful again. I’m really just not a fan of his at all.It doesn’t help when you see Sanchez, Welbeck and even Giroud at times running around like a blue arsed fly, and Ozil strolling about. I know its “Not his style” to run about but I ereally don’t think we’re good enough to effectively have, at best, 9 and a half outfield players when he plays well and 9 when he’s off the boil (most of this season and the back end of last season). But that’s my opinion. I know a lot who disagree, but also a lot who agree. He is a very divisive issue.

Not too bad thanks Rico. Had 5 days away at the start of the month visiting family on the Isle of Wight for my birthday, came back and got a stinking cold which my littl’un has now got. Poor mite. You all well?

  14. rico says:

Ithink that’s given me a topic for tomorrow Rocky….

I love the IOW – great beaches and lots of sand, not been there for a while though. Hope you had a lovely time, apart from the cold of course… All well here thanks…

  15. rockyrocastle07 says:

It was great thanks. Parents live a 5 min walk from the beach in Seaview, my sister 5 mins from the beach in Ryde, so plenty of beach trips in the summer I think when we go back!

Glad I could help! Only taken about 3 years to come up with a worthwhile comment that inspired something (albeit totally unintentionally!!

  16. Lee says:

Barca v Citeh….we got to want citeh to go through right? They didn’t sell their ticket allocation for tonight’s game! That’s embarrassing!

  17. potter says:

Just back on the ward aches but foot moves.Ozil is divisive when I watch on the box I àm not impressed. At the ground though the movement he makes space for others especially Sanchez to run into is more obvious.

  18. Wavy says:

Good on yer Potter. They’ll have you running around tomorrow, you’ll see, well not quite running around but you will be up and about and on the road to pain free recovery within days!
As an arm chair supporter, mostly, these days I am aware that much of what I see is not indicative of what is going on off the ball. It is frustrating really. When I was a regular spectator I used to watch the players movements when the ball was not in their ambit. You realise just how tuned in the players are, they are just as important as the player with the ball! None of this chatting to the goalie, if we’re a full back about the forthcoming social events!! The TV cove ridge is very limited and always at the mercy of the Director. You just don’t get much of the roast of the game! I agree with your assessment of Ozil. He is a fabulous player, gifted and understated on the football pitch, but he is aware of all around him and he demonstrably works tirelessly, it just doesn’t look like it on the TV.

  19. Lee says:

Glad you are on the road to recovery Potter.
How many nutmegs has Messi done so far? Unreal player…..wonder if we’ll ever see him in the PL?

  20. scottfromoz says:

    Potter,
What you said about Ozil is EXACTLY what Ginge said a few years back about Ramsey.
Until then, he didn’t rate him, but watching him live showed exactly how smart a player he was.
Ozil is quality and often too good for our other guys.
Ps…not sure what’s happening at your end, but good luck with it bud.

  21. tsgh says:

Best of luck Potter… and a speedy recovery and all…

Scott, Ramsey is still Shit but not as shite as Costa. 😛

Bt- you got to admit Rakitic is a top drawer….

Klopp and BVb flopped their lines again last night against Juve… Pogba please… average at best.

    Morning all btw…

  22. tsgh says:

Ozil is too good for our players and that is why his best games have come when Arteta, Ramsey and TR07 have been playing with him…

All the said players see the bigger picture and allow MO11 to flourish…

Alexis is a top player but at times he shows why pep bought him but hardly played him for Barca…

  23. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Potter I am pleased for you mate. time will heal your pains….but one step at a time

With regards Ozil…….I have been sarying all along that with TR07 alongside him he flourishes. With Cazorla as well.

I sincerily hope that AW keeps Santi. the trident of Coquelin, Santi, Ozil moves very well. We just need another trident made up of Aaron and two others. (Arteta, TR07, Flamini are all old now and need to be replaced.) That is why we need Schneiderlin and maybe another advanced midfielder. Jack is always injured so a liability…plus he divides opinions.

Sanchez, DW23 and the OX are the top lateral players. Theo is not up to scratch in comparison to Ozil.

  24. rico says:

Good to hear all went well Potter..

    Handy article Lee.. 😉

Ts, you been reading my post for today? Lol

    Morning to you all….

  25. scottfromoz says:

Ginge, the lad is hitting form again.
It’s been a. While, but he’s getting there.
Costa…blah…..Giroud has a better goal to game ratio this season on all competitions.

  26. Hell Raising Devil says:

I hope so Rico. I really like that player. he makes the midfield tick like a clockwork. at least we will use him against the spuddies twice a year, he usually scores against them.
