Arsenal go big with new deal.

Morning all.

Arsenal have smashed it. Puma are out, Adidas are in. Great news. They supplied some of the best kits we’ve worn I reckon, them and Nike. Puma are expected to supply Man City with their kit in the near future.

An annual £60m deal with Adidas, puts Arsenal third in the list of most lucrative kit deals in the game. Only Barcelona and their deal with Nike worth £140m a year and that horrid lot up in Manchester are also backed by Adidas which earns them £75m a year better the deal we’re reported to have struck.

1986 – 1994 was Adidas. Two two league titles were won during that time before Nike breezed in and stayed for the next twenty years. It’s fair to say that Nike probably enjoyed seeing their name on our kit during the first decade.

Rumour has it that Adidas are set to bring back the yellow and blue kit. I’d love it to be similar to the one Frank McLintock looked good in, although I believe Umbro we’re responsible for that one but there was something about it which looked super good. They all looked tidy in that kit.

Adidas did bring out a yellow and blue kit of their own back in the day but it wasn’t quite as smart I thought. Although Wrighty seemed to like wearing it.

I’ll be glad to see the back of Puma as some of their kits have been awful. Even now with pink on the sleeves! Still, at least they introduced a zip into Arsene Wengers coat which he could actually operate. The media milked that story eh.

For a bit of fun during this boring two week break, which kit would like Adidas to bring back, or would you rather something new?

No pink though eh, no black either. Just red and white for the home kit. Blue and yellow for the away kit, that would be my choice anyway.

Finally, it seems Aaron Ramsey is a wanted man. AC Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Man Utd, they all want the Welshman. Tough decision for Arsenal really because they have to either sell to a rival in January, or let him walk for free in the summer. Ramsey of course might have other ideas though. He could just stay on until the end of his contract and see who offers the best deal in the summer.

International fixtures kick off tonight and funny enough it’s Wales who feature. They’re up against Spain if anyone is interested.

No? Me neither.

Hi Rico re other post I sure we had just sold Veira and i think we had just got Flamini.
I like the bruise banana kit from 92.
60m a year and there are rumors that we will not spend in jan? ? ?
If Ramsey won’t sign and refuses to move in jan tell him he will be dropped to the reserves for rest of season . See how that helps him get a better deal somewhere else. Its about time the the club puts itself before the players
We are so soft or was that just wenger? We shall see.

Hi stevey, seems crazy we opted to swerve Carrick after just one good game from Cesc, but Flamini wasn’t bad first time round, especially at left back during the CL season.

I can see the logic of sticking Ramsey in the reserves but we’d be cutting our nose off to spite our face really. Don’t believe we won’t spend any money in January, where has that come from out of interest?

  3. steveyj22 says:

The Daily mail and one football app said we may not spend this jan?? ? I think if Ramsey won’t sign he has to be pushed out the door especially with our tight ass owner we need the money to invest. Give players a chance who want to play at the club. I’m really sick of this crap from our playerrs. We need to make sure these contracts are not allowed to run so short why wasn’t Ramsey offered a deal at the beginning of last season? Didn’t the club see this coming especially with our track record? I think wellbeck should be offered a new one he is suited to a team that presses.

G’day to to you all, and thanks Rico. for the post.

It’s good to know that our marketing department is on the ball and the new Adidas is very welcome, but in reality it’s just a drop in the ocean when you consider that we are paying Ramsey in excess of £5.7 million a year and he’s well down the list of our highest paid players. Ozil £15.6 million, Aubameyang £9.36 million, Lacazette £7.2 million, Mkhitaryan £6.2 million.

Of course on top of the Adidas money there is the income from shirt sales which average around 835,000 globally a year. personally the only Arsenal shirt that I have bought was a Dennis Bergkamp knock-off that I got in Turkey for about a fiver.

  5. rico says:

Must have been Gazidis and Wenger at fault for that stevey..

Ha ha Cicero, I haven’t bought anything from the club or about the club for yonks. I even thought about selling the plumb coloured special edition shirt I bought in a moment of madness. Wasn’t cheap either.

Hi rico. cracking post yet again.

Totally agree with not ever buying or reading the Mail, stick it in the dustbin, where it belongs.

Smart work from our backroom boys regarding the shirt deal, about time we played hard ball and got our just rewards. Sad thing is Unai probably won’t get much in the way of funds this January or end of season.

I predict he will get a total of £50m, maybe split in half for January then end of season.

Not all doom and gloom though because he is a man who does his homework thoroughly by all accounts. I’m confident he will bring in two more players by the start of next season.

I would love us to play with the yellow zig zag shirts as our away kit next season. I know you don’t like black, not sure if its a wind up, but have you seen the one thats doing the rounds? Its a black shirt with the yellow zig zag sleeves. I love it………

    Hi Vcc, thanks.

I think we’ll buy one at least in January, can’t see Emery being satisfied with his lot just yet.

Utd have ten players out of contract next summer, that’s been kept quiet..

Black and yellow zigzag? No… please… lol

Actually I do have one genuine Arsenal shirt which one of my sons gave me as a Christmas present. I’ve worn it only once, while on holiday in Ibiza, I watched an Arsenal/Chelsea game in a bar. Chelsea won. That shirt was definitely jinxed, it’s been at the bottom of a drawer ever since.

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

Evening all and thanks yet again El Rico .

This wont surprise you, but I dont like Adidas as kits for us as the three stripes on the sleaves spoils it for me, I love our traditional kit to not be abused !

I liked the first PUMA home shirt, but it went downhill afterwards.

I`m also disappointed that our staff have failed to get a deal on par with Manshafter @ £75M. They have had there deal for a while and as a new deal ours should be the same or more as you can bet some teams will get a bigger deal than ours when they renew !………………I`m talking about the two Mancs, Dippers and Chavs……………..poor imo !

  10. Wavy says:

    Evening all.

Give me red with White sleeves, baggy white shorts and red and white hooped socks. Traditional look!
It may catch on…..the old ways!
    And,
The 1971 cup final yellow shirts, they were a winner!

Go on Adidas, I dare you.

Good article Rico just the job for someone who has spent all week in recovery from …….getting my Arsenal back. I’m still in shock. Roll on up Leicester City be prepared for something unusual, I hope.

Dark here, as usual! Very windy too.

  11. ScottfromOz says:

    Hi all.
I thought the club pulled the contract, so Putting Ramsey in reserves if he refuses to sign is a little late now-May have been with trying 6 months ago 🙂
We had a really nice away kit 4-5 seasons back.
Simple yellow and blue and it looked fantastic.
The designers should have their fun with the third kit and keep to tradition with the home and away kits, imo.
