    Morning Andrew, Potter.

My first thought was I hope we don’t need a win on the final day of the season to win the league… lol

    Morning Rico and All

Yeah we agree on it being Southgate’s last tournament but don’t bet against the FA extending his contract.

Kane can still do a job for us in certain games, but it’s Southgate’s reluctance to change the system, go with a different striker and he has plenty to choose from. We play like Italy but without the Italian mentality, we’re so boring to watch and that’s all on him…

  3. Devilgunner says:

    Good Morning Rico and all

So its Villa, tottenham and Manchester, all of them away, in the first 6 games of the season.

Good. 3 difficult games out of the way in the first 6 games. Hopefully we come out of that lot unschated.

  4. Aussie Geoff says:

    Morning Rico and all,
September could be a bit tricky, but on the upside we play Man city and Tottenham at home in the last half of the season, so I am quite happy with this fixture,

  5. Devilgunner says:

every fixture is difficult Rico as you said. there are 38 difficult games.

Personally I always like the hardest fixtures as early as possible in the season and in the 2nd round. Get them out of the way.

Not many people like that. some say its better later on. Imo, and in our favour, I would say get them off asap.

It means that Arteta and the team have to begin the season on their toes. Its the best way to set everyone up mentally. There is also the fact that the earliest the hardest teams are out of the way the better it is for the Champions league and FA cup progress.

  6. potter says:

The way City finish their seasons it’s good to get them early but I think we have a Champions league match between Toots and City .

  7. Devilgunner says:

The way that the season is planned matches wise, there is no excuse for Arteta not to rotate. If he manages to make the right calls in the transfer market he will have no excuse not to rotate and rest certain players.

Fingers crossed he makes the right purchases which he can trust to play their part without disrupting the team

  8. Devilgunner says:

It seems that Arteta and Edu have managed to persuade Hein to stay and he will sign a new contract. However, He will be sent out on a season long loan so that he gains experience.

That means that Arsenal still need to sign a 2nd keeper if Ramsdale, as expected, leaves for pastures new.

  9. Limey says:

Yes the toughest fixtures are often the ones either straight after an international break,or straight after a Champions league match(especially if both are away)
I agree with Devil, definitely better to play the better teams in the first half of the season.
I’m confident with the players we’ve got,a couple of new additions even better.

  10. Devilgunner says:

Arsenal will be buying Raya for the agreed 27 million. If Ramsdale leaves I hope that Arsenal will get a good fee for him…if they get what he is worth Ramsdale will fetch 40-45 million, enough to cover the Raya agreed sum and also the purchase of a new keeper.

If Hein leaves on loan Arsenal will either have to get a 3rd keeper or else promote a youngster.

I hope that Arsenal have enough money to purchase Lunin from RM. He will come as 2nd keeper but I feel that when he settles in Raya will suffer the same fate as Leno and then Ramsdale because I rate Lunin as superior to Raya even though the latter won the golden glove.

  11. Devilgunner says:

If one takes a look at the fixtures, one can see that in the first round we have 5 away fixtures against teams I deem as difficult grounds for us…..Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Newcastle and Chelsea. At home we have Liverpool and United.

That means that in the second round we have those 5 away games reversed and we play them at the Emirates while its only 2 away against Liverpool and United.

As Rico pointed out there is no easy fixture but at least these games seem more favourable the way they are played out than if they had been reversed.

  12. Cicero says:

Since we will be playing every team home and away, the order we actually play them in is largely irrelevant.

Until all our players return from International duty and pre-season gets going we have little idea who is going to be available. The same applies to every team in the league, so what at first sight seems a tough game may not necessarily turn out to be so and vice versa.

  13. Devilgunner says:

That is a good point you made Cicero. We have to wait for players to return from international duty and as you pointed out as well the same applies to every team in the league.

However its good to keep in mind that the earlier we get the away games against the so called ‘hard teams’ the better. Would you have preferred to face 5 out of the top six in the last 8 games around April/May??? Personally I feel much better if the top teams we face them in the first 8 games of the 1st round and around January/February in the 2nd. Especially seeing that the 2nd legs are at home. Isnt it the same in the CL….many teams prefer the 1st leg to be away. Granted, home and away count 3 points but when you are home you will have the 12th player…..the crowd.

And its a good thing to deal the first blow asap.

  14. rico says:

Devil, what worries me more than the fixtures is our tendency to have a wobble at some stage of the season. Last season it was just before Christmas, the season before it was after Christmas. With no winter break this time, they’ll be no sunshine and regrouping…

  15. Nigel Tufnel says:

I don’t like the way spurs and City matches line up, with CL in between. Also seems early for a major title affecting match.. I think we got City early last October also.
