Arsenal Fans set to be left devastated!! An 18 year old that Wenger will play if he proves good enough…

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Ryo Miyaichi but it seems that Wenger plans to see if the lad has what it takes. If he does, Arsenal will apply for his Visa and should they be successful, we could be in for a treat next season watching this zippy little player.

Miyaichi has been called up to the Japanese Under-23 squad which could enhance his chances of a successful Visa Application through the Home Office.

Wonder what number he'll get.......

Wenger says:

I have only heard positive reports about him. He will be with us in pre-season. I think he is good enough, but if he is ready enough to have a place in our team, we will ask for a work permit and try to get him in.

What I like about Ryo is that he has good timing with his runs and understands when to go and where to go. That is something very important. He knows how to use his pace and he is an intelligent player.

He is a boy who went straight from school football to professional football and straight away was the best player in Feyenoord. He looks a very promising boy and everybody who went to watch him has been hugely impressed by him. Ryo is a character and a great football player.

This one will unfold throughout the summer but I’m looking forward to watching him in our pre-season matches….

Wenger has also been talking about players who many have speculated could leave us in the summer and he has been very quick so dismiss such rumours surrounding both Fabregas and Arshavin

He expects both players to still be with us next season

However, he said that about Flamini, Edu, Diarra, Paddy, Henry… and the list goes on….

And, just like with Ryo Miyaichi, I look forward to seeing this saga unfold throughout the summer…..

Finally, I will leave you all with some ‘devastating news’ which no doubt you have already read.

Denilson has met up with Arsene Wenger and told him he wants to leave and Wenger has told him he can!!

After the Fulham game he will return home and find himself a new club.

This has been the worst season of my life and I am so upset, so frustrated. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I’ve been here for five years and won nothing.

A footballer’s career is over very quickly so it is time for me to move on. This is not a sudden decision. I made up my mind eight months ago.

I was fed up of coming home and feeling down but I haven’t said anything until now because I did not want to disrupt the team during the season and I haven’t caused a big scene.

I’ve simply been to see Arsene Wenger and told him how I felt and he’s agreed to let me go. I know some people will think I am crazy. They are right. It is a great club with a great organisation, a great manager and so many talented players.

Yes, I make a good living at Arsenal but other things in life are important. I need a fresh challenge and although I know I’m taking a big gamble I am ready to take that risk.

I can’t see myself returning in a Chelsea shirt, or Liverpool or Manchester City – and definitely not Tottenham. I think my future will be in Spain or Italy.

His parting message to Arsenal is:

It is great to play beautiful football but sometimes to be a winner you have to play ugly if you want to succeed.

Well Denilson, my parting message to you is, you don’t play beautiful football and when have you ever showed you are a winner?
Good luck to you though, wherever you end up!
Wonder how much we’ll get for him…… 😉

  1. WiganGooner says:

I suspect pushed. He’s been woeful this season and that shouldn’t be down to him not wanting to be there, he should have left it in the changing room and gone out and showed that he is a winner.

I suspect Arsene has said “Look son, you need to find yourself a new club. I am happy for you to say its down to you but you will not play for us again”

    WG

  2. emmy says:

Well, if Denilson could say this, I wonder what the likes of Cesc, RVP would say. Hell knows he’s the worst Arsenal player this season. Go Denilson go. Rio will fill the void better.

  3. Anthony Timothy says:

So Denilson has said winning is better than beautiful soccer. I hope Wenger has heard it otherwise we will be seeing passing to eternity and we know what happens when a pass is misplaced /intercepted.

  4. rico says:

WG, i suspect pushed too and hopefully is will be the first of a few..

emmy, you really think denilson will leave a void?

AT, He’s hardly the right player to be saying that, i still can’t forgive him for being over taken by a ref when he was back tracking… or not as the case seemed…

  5. Innocent says:

Has Denilson himself been good enough? Why did he not rise to the occassion at the times he wa played, and he failed to cement a place ahead of Song. I am so happy to see him go, but at least there are 6 or 7 others who must go – these include Almunia; Diaby; Rosicky; Squilaci; Clinchy; Arshavin, and even Fabregas, yes, I mean Fabregas. He has of late become such a liability to the team.

  6. Will says:

I think Denilson looked around and saw:

    Cesc
    Nasri
    Jack
    Rambo
    Song
    Frimpong
    Lansbury

And said, I need to leave.

  7. rico says:

    Innocent – short answer, NO!

Agree a few need to go, Wenger wants AA to stay and with Cesc, The Daily Star report we have put a £60M price tag on him in attempt to keep him – I’m not sure we will….

arsenal fan, £6 or £7 Million maybe, only because he’s Brazilian 😉

  8. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning all,
Denilson moving on. Not been his best season with us, and I don’t think he has shown the kind of interest that he should have, with midfielder injured this year he hasn’t done himself any favours when he has been played, he believes its time to move on, and I believe that as well.Wenger appears to have trouble moveing players on, and I am sure Denilson will still be here next year if he cannot find a place to park his boots. Myaichi, looking like a new player, will save a couple of bob there then, looks like another flanker. Wenger will just have to hope that Bentners had enough as thats the only way we will lose him, Bartley will come back and will be used spareingly another new signing, Fimpong will be back fit, another new signing, you can see where I’m going can’t you

  9. rico says:

    Morning Steve

No no no please don’t say that, just as i was having a good morning you tell me you think denilson will stay….

    😉

  10. T-buzz says:

How much will we get for Denilson? A wave good bye is good enough for me!
    Morning peoples! 🙂

  11. Will says:

Thing is Steve, if the young players are good enough I am happy with that but, I still think we need experience in the spine.

  12. Savage says:

The problem with selling Denilson, from what I’ve understood, is that clubs might not be willing to pay his salary demands. The fact that the desire to move is coming from him is terrific news for us.

I do think he might be a better player in a slower league. Don’t be surprised to see a call-up to Brazil.

  13. Savage says:

Another thought. Denilson has seen very little playing time in the last few months. I wonder if Wenger was upset at his chat “8 months” back?

  14. rico says:

But in order to get the experienced players in, we need to get players like Denilson out to make way, otherwise it’s same old same old…

  15. arsenal fan says:

Why dont we go for tim cahill
    1.proven epl player
    2.15 goals a season guaranteed
    3.help during setpieces
4.can act as striker if wanted ,wing, in the hole if fab injured.
    5.good work ethic
6.price tag 15-20mil can come with the hope for champions league football.

  16. rico says:

Hi savage, well if he is a fed up as he makes out then he will need to make a few sacrifices, wages being one. But, he has sponged off of ARC for too long now, i doub’t he’s hard up 😉

  17. T-buzz says:

    Morning Rico, yes indeedy! 🙂
One down and more to go, fingers crossed!!
Still have Almoose, Abu Diabolical, Rosickness,Squillack-skill, etc to go

  18. Steve Palmer says:

What worries me is that we have, Squilly, JD, Kos Virmin possibly Bartly, and Miquel, have i missed anyone and we are thinking centrebacks

  19. rico says:

I wouldn’t Will, but i wouldn’t set a too high price for him either.. someone will snap him up, think savage is right, in a slower league he’ll do much better…

  20. rico says:

Thought you might be T-buzz, now to sort out the others you list…. 😉

Steve, Bartley is looking likely to go back to Rangers on loan – if he doesn’t, what does that tell us about Wengers intentions for the defence…??

  21. Will says:

I would keep Bartley, he has had rave reviews at both loan clubs and Rangers think he is good enough to start for them so, he must be good enough for our bench.

  22. T-buzz says:

I wouldnt blame Bartley if he wants another season at Rangers. At least he has a chance of winning something with them…. 🙁

  23. rico says:

    Something to think about…

We need a goal scorer and Defoe want’s out of you know where…..???

  24. rico says:

T-Buzz, i have a horrible feeling about Bartley, he’ll go off to Rangers, get the taste of first team football and then want to stay there…..

  25. Steve Palmer says:

What makes me laugh is we all talk about Arsenal players brought up the Arsenal way then loan them out to other clubs playing the way they do, hows that the Arsenal way. If I were a loaned player and played in a Scottish league for two years and was loved up there and got regular starts would I want to come back

  26. Will says:

I was thinking that Rico, I think Defoe is just what we need. Someone that gets in there and scraps for the ugly goals.

  27. craig says:

Wow great,Denilson is going and will be replaced by Song/Ramsey or Wilshere so we’ll start wining trophies again. Hahahahahaaaa…wonder who’s the next scapegoat.

  28. rico says:

Steve, agree and Bartley is not London born and bred, he’s a manchester lad so what loyality does he have to us??

I bet Bolton would love him back in a flash….

  29. rico says:

craig, he’s no scapegoat, he’s a cart horse but with less pace and not good enough for us – we need to take what we are offered for him and get his 50M wage off of our books and use it to pay a player who earns it…

  30. Steve Palmer says:

If Bartley is good enough up there, get him back now he is just what we need, before we lose him.

  31. Joaquim moreira says:

    Good morning!
Denilson is a good player for Italian and Portuguese league.
Are any club interesting in him?
I think for him, is not dificult to find a medium/important club.
Not the same to Rosicky or Almunia…

  32. allezkev says:

Morning Rico, good news re:Denilson, but he cannot complain, he’s had in excess of 100 games to cement his position and been usurped by a teenager [JW] whose come into the team and looked the Dogs Rollox right from the off.
Gervinho, what’s the natter about him then, is he any good???
Great post, the news in it makes it post of the year for me……

  33. rico says:

I’d keep him and play him Steve in the pre season matches, if he’s fit by then. See what he’s made of and then make a decision..

If he’s good enough, CC, FA Cup and some of the league matches to rotate/rest players… We can’t forget either that Rangers also played him as their DM and he was good….

  34. allezkev says:

SP, good morning mate, i totally agree on Bartley, if he goes back to Scotland and becomes a fans favourite and a 1st choice player, why would he want to come back to AFC and be 5th or 6th choice behind Squillaci???

  35. rico says:

    Morning JM,

I read a few weeks ago that a few clubs are interested in him but cannot recall who…

  36. rico says:

    Will, i meant Defoe 😉

Morning kev, had a feeling you would be happy 😉
I think he cemented his place – it just isn’t in the side 😉

  37. rico says:

Jack Wilshere has proved that age isn’t always an issue/barrier..

If Bartley has it in him, he has it in him….

  38. arsenal fan says:

ya is gervinho any good heard that he scored when lille won 1-0 in the ligue one.
it makes lille six points clear with 2 games to go.
It is his 15th goal of the season.

  39. rico says:

    20 later this month….

How many players has AW been playing at the same age?

Who would be better – Miquel or Bartley??

I know i’d rather see the british steel in there….

  40. Steve Palmer says:

Morning AK, If Jack and Arron are old enough so’s he, may even bring Miquel on as well

  41. allezkev says:

Rico..and Lansbury, and Frimpong, and Coquelin, and Miyaichi, the progress of those kids are what’ll keep me going next season…

  42. Will says:

Thing is, if Bartley can handle the roughness in the Jock league, surely he can handle the English league.

  43. allezkev says:

SP, more the merrier mate, i’ve accepted that we’re unlikely to see any big signings, so the kids are what give me a buzz. After all what prospect is more exciting, seeing Rosicky come off of the bench, or Miyaichi, seeing Diaby or Lansbury/Frim/Coq??? I know what i’d prefer

  44. Will says:

Exactly Kev and even though we laugh at them, Rangers are a big club and if they want him as a starter, he must be of a decent standard.

  45. Steve Palmer says:

I have really given up all hope of a good signing in defence, so reckon we have what we’ve got, but one thing we need to address is our retention of the ball, we tend to give the ball away far too much for me. intensive training in ball retention is a must, Barca have got it off to a tee, and that is key for us.

  46. rico says:

I agree re Bartley – like i say, i’d rather see him on the bench than Squilli…..

kev – i understand exactly where you are coming from, those four are really going to be knocking on the door for a start….

I’m sure wenger will go back to playing kids in the CC next season….

  47. Will says:

Steve, it is not so much keeping the ball but knowing when to change tempo and hitting “the” ball. We can pass sideways with the best of them but where Barca have us beat is the final ball and the player willing to run behind the defence off the ball.

  48. allezkev says:

Will, i think that centre-backs are a bit like goalkeepers, they get better with age. It’s a position you grow into and learn about, it’s not like midfield or attack which is more instintive.
If we let Bartley go i think we’ll really regret it in 2 or 3 years time.
How stupid would Wenger look if he turned up at a top-four team at aged 23 or 24. Gary Cahill should be the warning, chucked out by Villa, i bet they wished they had him back!?

  49. allezkev says:

Yeah, Will/SP, do you notice how many players Barca get forward and into the box when they attack.
Rico, AW has the quality kids to go with them in the CC next season. Could be another trip to Wembley with the crop we’ve got [as long aas they don’t all go out on loan]

  50. Will says:

I have said before, when we have the ball, every player shows for it and faces the ball holder, no one stretches the defence. No one runs in behind the defence and it is annoying because we have some of the best passers in the game.

  51. allezkev says:

Will, maybe that’s a symptomatic of our lack of pace up front and coming from midfield. Remember Michael Thomas bombing forward, who does that for us now???

  52. Steve Palmer says:

Also Will, if they do lose it, its a split second when one of them is on top of the receiver to get it back, phenomenal team work and work rate, I know we see their goalscoring but we can learn a lot with their work rate

  53. Will says:

I agree Kev, we have passers in midfield but no one wants to make the run.

Yes Steve, they all just amble back.

  54. allezkev says:

Rico, Ray Parlour, Marc Overmars, Freddy, Bobby, TH14, even Reyes, they all made those forward runs. Gilberto was another, Big Pat, why has it changed so much, nobody takes a chance anymore. Maybe it was the switch from 4 4 2 to 4 3 3 [4 5 1]..?

  55. allezkev says:

Will, that’s it mate, they all run as far as the penalty area, and get a nose bleed… It’s so frustrating. We get a breakaway, the bloke with the ball gets to the edge of the box, looks up, and no bugger has gone with him….

  56. Will says:

We don’t do fast breaks anymore. Who remembers a time when we would intercept a pass on the edge of our box and within 3 passes, we had 5 players in the oppositions box.

    We have lost this:

  57. K-TR7 says:

Good read.interesting comments regarding off the ball movement.one key aspect of barca’s game is that the ball carrier rarely moves but its up to the other players to do the running to open up space.i wrote a post here regarding this aspect a few months ago.theo, cesc and rvp are excellent at this.nasri was also very good at this in the first half of the season.no one was crying out for a striker in Jan/Feb as rvp had lots of support then but we seem to have stopped doing this.Wenger said the team is at its best when the ball carrier has 3/4 passing options at least and thats how the invincibles played.lets hope wenger sorts it out.

  58. W.A.T.H says:

What planet is crab boy on… I won’t go to liverpool, chealseas, man city or sperz…..! thats for sure they must be pissing themselves reading that you think you’d be wanted by any of them, maybe they want a brazilian coffee boy for the players lounge..!! sums up the mentality of far to many in our squad..!

    Greetings all…!

  59. rico says:

    Hi Kt and WATH

I did have his comments in the post about ‘not being in the shirt of those clubs’….

My response was ‘They wouldn’t want you’…

    A joke indeed…. 😉

  60. rico says:

I’m hoping this Denilson story is a result of Wenger rather than the player and it’s the first step of a clearout…

  61. rico says:

An intersting story is from Citeh, the owners have said they will make only two big money signings….

What do they call a ‘big money signing’ – Ronaldo for £150 Million??

  62. SD-London says:

i can help but jump to the end of the comments when i saw someone calling for Defoe.

You want to kill the poor guy, if Defoe should sign for us , he will not be able to walk the streets of London or Greater London ever again. Or am i wrong in assuming you were talking of Defoe of the Spuds ?

  63. SD-London says:

Sun newspaper is very big on big stories today i think they are ready to start the rumour mill already:
They repoerted MAn City wants to buy Ronaldo for £150mill and £300 000 a week salary.

If that is true , then i will really like to know who are in charge in that club , they must be very tick (loopy) or (stupid).

Why would they think because of money , Ronaldo will come to Man City (no history – really ) and leave Real Madrid ?

Then why would he want to play for his former club’s rival i cant figure that out.

Then again it might be a good thing , if that distracts them from other good players then maybe Arsenal will have a chance in the transfer market.
Because frankly we dont , MAn city’s financial Muscles and Chelsea owner defintely ready to bring in at least four .

Wenger doesn’t stand a chance , he better get the Samb’a , Cahills, Parkers, and call back the loanies , that is the only chance we have

  64. oliver says:

morning all…farewell to denilson it seems….good luck to him, perhaps he will find his niche over in spain or portugal. i have a bit of sympathy for him because i believe he was shoe-horned into a role (dm) that he is not ideally suited for – perhaps he can fulfill his potential when played as an am in a different league…

any sympathy, however, is tempered by rooney’s oft-mentioned goal at the ems last season, where denilson simply stood and admired…i also remember some pretty goals from him a few seasons back – bramall lane, carling cup, 07-8 season comes to mind – but i think the former will be the enduring memory many supporters have of him. and that part is on him, not arsene, not the supporters…

lets be careful with miyaichi – he’s done well at feyenoord, but that is a huge step below our first team. even if he shows well in pre-season, i would be reluctant to throw him straight in…i am sure his turn will come, but lets not annoint him our saviour just yet. he’s still a boy, and the likes are cesc and jack are the exception, not the rule…

  65. Joaquim moreira says:

Is Gervinho from Lille? Good player but I prefer Gameiro.
Do you know Porto was spend, two years ago, 3 millions for Falcao? Now the price is at least, 30 million

  66. Steve Palmer says:

Will, Looked at your clip, dont forget Arshaven’s goal against Barca, pretty quick counter Absolute quality.

  67. Steve Palmer says:

I Understand what your saying Oliver about Ryo, but if your good enough your old enough, the lad has come from school football to league football and showed promise enough for his country to want to play him, when a player is gifted let him flourish or he will stall, let him get as good as he’s going to be but with us, as so many have short career’s, Utd have brought in an unknown youngster and he’s won the league for them, you wouldn’t hold him back now would you

  68. oliver says:

disagree steve. if he stakes his claim and makes himself undroppable, we will obviously play him. but i see nothing wrong with working his way up the ladder – he can flourish just as well by doing his time in the reserves and on domestic loan…feyenoord are a poor team in a poor league – it is a huge leap to say, on the basis of undoubted potential and impressive performances in rotterdam, that he is already arsenal first team material…i am not suggesting you are saying that, but i think he has been massively overhyped at this point. if he shows he is good enough with us, then he will get playing time…

i am not knocking the boy, but i think we are getting too far ahead of ourselves with him…

another question we need to ask is whether – if he does make the first team next season – arsene will properly utilize him…

  69. SD-London says:

Steve P : yes i remember the Arshavin’s goal against Barca and think it was exquisite.
But how come he doesn’t get into the box more often , RVP and Nasri will always send a decent cross.

AA is quality and a different class really but i don’t think he his settling very well in London.

He needs to get in the box more and think he needs to get out more.I hope we dont sell him.

  70. Steve Palmer says:

Fair point Oliver, I worry this lad will not get a chance, as I don’t believe Wenger will be with us after next year if things don’t go well, and a new man coming in would effect all our youngsters futures

  71. arsenal fan says:

DENILSON- Im a born winner n came to arsenal to win things.Joke of the season.lol
After 160 1st team appearances done nothing to impress.

  72. oliver says:

we’ll see, steve…i am confident miyaichi will get his chance. i just don’t want to see him thrown in over his head – the hype i see surrounding him makes me concerned this is a possibility…

  73. Steve Palmer says:

SD, if your still there, i looked back and saw your comment on City Chelski, and thought that if Wenger hasn’t got he’s deals in place by now, means cheap buys from outside,so nothing to worry about ha ha

  74. Steve Palmer says:

attack in mass and always more than one in the box Fabregas doing plenty and a lot of attacks on the left side but the main thing is the otherside never touched the ball and no back passes have i cheated

  75. Will says:

    No.

One touch passing and quick and incisive forward passing.

But you were right as we Steve.

  76. Merlin96 says:

Denilson is simply not suited for English Football.
    Easily brushed off the ball.
When he lost the ball, he ambled back instead of tracking back immediately…simply lack of pace.

He simply lost that initaitive to create somehting but instead prefer to dodge his responsibility by passing short and safe passes sideway or backward..hence his 99% pass completion rate.

He is smart enough to realise he has no future with the following youngsters breaking into senior squad:
    1 – Lansbury
    2 – Coquelin
    3 – Frimpong

And selecting “2” for 4-2-3-1 formation with teh following players ahead of him:
    1 – Song
    2 – Wilshere
    3 – Diaby
    4 – Ramsey
    5 – COnor Henderson
    6 – Aneke

And the new players coming in next season
    1 – Toral Harper
2 – New buy such as Scott Parker, Matuida, Inler, Defour, etc..

And players coming back from loan:
1 – Botelho – has he got EU passport in Janaury 2011?
2 – Galindo – perhaps playing more than 75% of Bolivia internaitonals may qualify him a work permit in Jan 2012???
    3 – Ryo Mayaichi
    4 – WHatever happen to Wellington SIlva…

I see Wenegr will definitely start mass culling of those players that let him down and he will start promoting all those youngsters into senior squad. Deadwoods that should be sold this summer:
    1 – Rosicky
2 – Eboue (I thought this season was his last year of contract?)
    3 – Bendtner
    4 – Diaby
    5 – Armand Traore
    6 – Squillaci – worse than SIlvestre!
7 – ALmunia – should be release immediately.
8 – Arshavin – he just not motivated to give all for Arsenal.

    Chamakh?
    Vela?
DOn’t know but I sense that Benik Afobe and JET should be challenging for centre forward spot…plus Theo rotating back as centre-forward.

Perhpas if Wenegr buys a new striker, then Bendtner and Vela maybe sold.

  77. Merlin96 says:

Yes, but I will add 18 year old Benik Afobe.
If you are good enough, you are old enough.

  78. Merlin96 says:

Rather daft to field a player who has lost all interest to play for Arsenal, a player who will not trakc back.

If it is a “must win” match, I will go for an attacking 3-4-3:

    ………………Szczesny

    …Sagna……Song…….Vermealen………Gibbs

    …………..Wilshere….Ramsey

    ..Walcott………………………..Arshavin
    ………..Van Persie….CHamakh.

That is, when the Front-4 goes into attacking mode, it is 4-2-4 with WIlsehre-Ramsey playing high-line and dictating play.

And in MIDFIELD battle, SOng moves seamlessly into MIDFIELD, with Van Persie or Theo or Arsahivn droping back to become 3-4-3…..the key beign Vermaelen, functioning as the LIbero behind the Trio WIlshere-SOng-Ramsey.

Thsi is the 3-4-3 Total FOotball that Johan Cryuff coached Barca…with Guardiola now continuing the Dutch Total FOotball started by Rinus Michels and Cryuff at BArca.

It is pointless to play counter-attacking football against that “must win” Fulham match.
Relentless attack from the whistle is the way to go.

  79. Will says:

I will tinker Merlin. We have centre backs who can easily play in midfield. Players like TV or JD and a lot of the time we play against 1 up front so I would keep 4-4-2 but, push either TV or JD into a sweeper role in front of the attacker and the other centre back behind.

That way, we can remove the need for a “Song” type player and have a midfield of

    Nasri Cesc Rambo Jack.

  80. JonJon says:

    fantastic post

dont wanna dwell on denilson to be honest but as long as its a sign of things to come im all for it

ryo should stay at feyenoord..for another few years..
we should tie him down with a contract with bonuses and cup wins and over a few years and let them have him for a couple..

hazards been frances top player recently, and hes linked to every big team around europe now..if ryo can do at feyenoord what hazard has done with lille then ryo will be linked to alot of teams as well..but he’ll already be ours…

in the meantime we should sign a player like hazard for the now..cos i dont wanna wait another few years of bendtner on the wing, while we are waiting for ryo to tear the dutch league to bits…

  81. rico says:

jj – many fans think Hazard is a done deal, i’m not, he’d be too expensive for old Ebeneza….

  82. JonJon says:

i was thinking weve had hazard since dec..but now im not so sure

    we’ll have to see.

i do think its a positive sign that we have started to advertise our players before the seasons done…

  83. oliver says:

afternoon all…i see the forums are abuzz saying we just signed mf/winger ricky alvarez from velez sarsfield. i wonder if everyone is aware that arsenal (de sarandi) also plays in argentina’s primera division – perhaps he actually transferred there, and not to us…

  84. K-TR7 says:

Apparently Zanetti recommended ricky to inter directors.i’ve also read that he is 6″2 and 84kgs.he is also not a teenager…

  85. oliver says:

k, do you think we actually signed him? or is this a wind-up? or has he signed for arsenal de sarandi?

  86. oliver says:

it came out over twitter. one tweet specifically mentioned our arsenal…ricky alvarez, currently with velez sarsfield, rumoured to hold an italian passport (argentine national)…

i am sure k knows more about him than me…javier zanetti supposedly pressed moratti to try and sign him for internazionale, as k mentions above.

  87. K-TR7 says:

Fox are claiming its the English Arsenal.also no way would he leave from a team thats first to a team 17th in the league.

  88. allezkev says:

Evening Gooners. Is that right, we’ve signed an Argie winger? I like Argies, tough little blighters.
    Great video Will [11.55].

  89. oliver says:

kev, left winger…he is also apparently not “little” at all…

i don’t think it has been reported via news outlets yet, still only on twitter…i think k said fox sports has tweeted it..

  90. K-TR7 says:

Some argie journo is claiming he is an absolute steal…well he better be or else we’ll have Bischoff mk2 or worse…denilson on the wing!if confirmed sicky must be off.

  91. rico says:

Álvarez played his first professional game with Vélez Sársfield in 2008.

Following his debut, he suffered a knee cruciate ligament injury that stalled his progression on the first team. Álvarez was part of the 2009 Clausura winning squad, playing only 18 minutes in the 1–0 victory over Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy.

His breakthrough with the team finally came during the 2010 Clausura, in which Vélez, forced by the tight fixture of the Copa Libertadores, played mostly with substitutes.

He scored his first goal in a 1–2 defeat to River Plate at the Estadio Monumental and received his first red card from referee Javier Collado in Vélez’ 1–3 defeat to Racing, for complaining about a yellow card.

Álvarez scored his second goal in Vélez 1–0 home victory over Lanús for the 2010 Apertura.

  92. allezkev says:

Yeah Oliver i know what you mean, but the Argie League is very physical, it produces tough players who should thrive in the EPL

  93. K-TR7 says:

AK he has no caps yet but argentina have so many good players.Tevez is even being mooted not to participate in the Copa America.alvarez doesn’t have a great scoring record but from the clips i’ve seen he has decent acceleration and likes to shoot.

  94. rico says:

    😆 kev..

well i am not believing a word of it until afc.com announce it and we know how long that will take….

  95. rico says:

doesn’t exactly get your heart racing does it 😉

still, that’s more than Nik has scored isn’t it 😉

  96. rico says:

most of his appearances have been off the bench according to wikki and he was crocked in 2008 with cruciate ligament injury….

    starting to sound familiar???

  97. allezkev says:

Rico, it’s desperation, haha, any signing is welcome, what with Denilson wanting to leave, blimey, i think i’ll have a Cydrax……

  98. K-TR7 says:

I remember Palermo’s president Zamperini complaining about how we had ‘stolen’ a player they had kept tabs on for a long time.i guess that player is Ricky Alvarez…

  99. allezkev says:

Someone on aclf, who used to live in Argentina, reckons he’s a combo of Kaka & Pires… Don’t know about that, but i hope so.

  100. K-TR7 says:

If we sign him could it be a sign that Wenger is trying to add some physical presence while still maintaining the flair?will we get direct footy again?

  101. allezkev says:

Just seen some you-tube of Gervinho and Alvarez, both look very usefull. Dare i say some similarities with a certain TH14 & Bobby in style….

  102. Joaquim moreira says:

If he is from Velez, I’m quite sure he is a good player ! 🙂
Metsacker is injury with a similar injury likes Vermaelen had. Out for the plans from Bayern and Arsenal

  103. allezkev says:

KT could also be a sign that he isn’t going to bugger about this summer, and hopefully do his business early for a change.
Could also be the influence of Stan?

  104. Joaquim moreira says:

    from Arsenal-fans american-latin:
“At the end of contract at the conclusion of the Argentine Clausura, will free the London club.
Ricky Alvarez, a young Argentine Velez Sarsfield player is about to become a new player of Arsenal.
According to reports ‘FoxSports’ midfielder, 23, has a preliminary agreement with the club coached by Arsene Wenger. The Argentine will come free as his contract ends following this season.
Ricky is a player who can play as a midfielder and second striker and he emphasizes his great shot and speed over short distances”

    Vela – Valencia?

  105. rico says:

I’ll be googling that one kev 😉

Guys, I am off for the day – been a long time since the Blackbirds and Robins woke me up this morning…

    Catch you all tomorrow..

Have a good one and nighty night

    🙂

  106. allezkev says:

It’s been a long long time KT, but isn’t it welcome, Wenger is at his best when he does his business early. It’s also better for pre-season prep, but as yet, this guy isn’t going to sell season tickets on his own, we need to see a bit more action first…

  107. Joaquim moreira says:

    from Arsenal fans argentina:
Arsenal y Chelsea están tras los pasos del nuevo ‘Chicharito’. Michael Pedroza Whitham, delantero del Jaguares de Chiapas, es objetivo de ambos clubes londinenses
