Arsenal begin talks to sign Gonalons. Prove you are staying Arsene & It's time to forget him…..

Morning all.

Let’s get the gossip out of the way.

The Metro claim we have opened talks to sign Olympique Lyon’s French international Maxime Gonalons. He’s 23 years old and believed to be the player who will finally replace both Song and Diaby.

Iker Casillas is back in the headlines for a summer move to Arsenal. He’s not played since January having fallen out with ‘The Special One’ and could be on the move. However, it’s more likely to be the manager on the move and the player staying put.

Nigel Winterburn is like all of us, he wants Arsene Wenger to spend big this summer and finally show a bit of proper intent in the transfer window. That way, he and all of us will know if his intention is to sign a new contract and remain Arsenal manager for the new few years.

First he needs to trim the wage bill and get rid of players like Bendtner, Arshavin, Schillaci, Chamakh and other fringe ones.

That will free money to bring big names to the club. If he does that it will tell us a lot about whether he stays.

I believe Arsene is the right man for next season. But there will be a restriction on the amount of money he can spend.

Arsenal haven’t bought a £30m player before, so if they do it will be a big sign that he continues.

He doesn’t really go for the big established £30m players. Around £15million is probably his limit.

That’s all for the summer.

Simple task ahead for Arsenal from now on, win all our matches and we will get at least 4th spot.

Starting today of course against the newly crowned Premier League Champions….

Giroud is the only player missing from last weekend’s squad. He is serving the first of a three match ban.

Who Arsene Wenger selects to replace him remains to be seen, maybe he’ll be bold and try something different, I like different.

We haven’t got the big target so we can stop trying failing to get a good cross into the box. Maybe try and beat with a bit more play on the ground, use the wide areas and they hit them hard with shots from distance, De Gea is dodgy, test him hard and often.

I hope Podolski and Walcott start up front, with the younger of the two scaring the old man Rio in the Manc defence with his pace. We know Theo can shoot, we know he can score too, he did both earlier in the season and did well.

He just needs to do it again today, but better than ever before.

Podolski, well he has a left foot which on it’s day is simply awesome and good enough to match most but like Walcott, we need him to remind us today all just how good he is……

Surely Oxlade-Chamberlain has to start? He’s direct and dangerous and causes defences problems.

Why? Because he’s prepared to run at them and through them. If Vidic plays, he won’t like that and he’s always good for a penalty…..

The midfield has a huge part to play…

Ramsey, Rosicky, Wilshere, Cazorla, Arteta. Who gets left out?

At the back, well that five picks itself and that’s no disrespect to Gibbs or Jenkinson.

Today isn’t about RvP, the guy Merts says, he and his team-mates missed, who questioned so many times how he could hurt them in the way he did, how the leader of the pack both on and off the pitch could walk away to a rival.

Well he did!

He’s gone, he got what he wanted, Arsenal seemingly got what they wanted and after the game today, fans and players need to forget him. He’s history, just like so many other players who have left us for greener grass.

We are Arsenal fans, ok we favour players as they arrive and perform so well over the years with us, but when they depart, Arsenal will remain and what is paramount today, what should be every day is who is our present and our future, not who was our past!

Whoever faces Man Utd today has to give their all, they have to fight from start to finish and come out victorious.

Spirit, passion, desire, attitude, collective spirit, resilience etc etc, we have heard them all from the manager and players after we have huffed and puffed our way to victory over a team in the bottom half of the table.

Well it’s about time we heard those words after beating a side who is not only in the top half of the table, but a team who are sitting top!

I’m sick and tired of us losing to Fergie and his mob, I’m sick and tired of losing to them on our own soil.

The rot needs to stop.

We have the players, if we can apply the right tactics, the right commitment from all who play, we can and will win….

Over to Wenger and the team…….

I hope it’s a good day……

Attack, attack and then attack some more.
    Morning fellow Gooners.
    We can do this.

  2. rico says:

    Morning all.

We can Scott, IF everyone plays their part…

ricardo, we don’t want/need the cheapest, we want/need the best!

  3. Scott from Oz says:

    Diame….no thanks.
    Capoue.
Rico, if you have not got your cash on the Aaron hat trick, i will disown you 🙂

  4. arsewhale says:

Good morning Rico, i think it’s a good one for us that spurs drew yesterday; if and only if, we could beat Man U, i’d prefer we do it convincly, we’d make it better for us and cement d third spot. I dont see any reason y we can’t do that.. This team is strong on their good day and i jst hope today will count as one. Pls do me a favour and start including pix of arsenal players and potential players d club is about to buy in ur articles. Thanks!

  5. Adam says:

Morning Rico. A fine sentiment in that post but I have this curious feeling that we have been on this particular stepping stone many times before. Step up or, has been the case for years, step down?
As for Gonalons. I have watched him several times as I have friends in Lyon and have never seen him look more than just ok. As we are seeing with Newcastle, these French players, out of the averageness of their own league, are often exposed. Personally, I think we should set our sights on a player who has done it consistently at a higher level. But that’s just me wanting to break the seemingly never-ending cycle of mediocrity so typified by the French Flakes these days. If we are still looking at the price first, instead of the quality of potential recruits then we are in for more of the same and who, apart. From Kroenke and Wenger, needs that?

  6. devilgunner says:

    Good Morning Lady and Gentlemen.

Fine post Rico. Send it by email to the players and AW. They surely need to read it.

Had a game yesterday that’s why I could not come on HH. We ended 3-3 which I must say is a fair result on both teams. We scored a couple of quality goals and overall we played quite well.

  7. potter says:

Remember today’s ref is Dowd , he won’t keep up with play and he will fall for all the tricks that they will employ. We need to utilise space and speed put them on the back foot keep tight on Carrick and cut off their supply lines. If it means running people out to wear them down so be it. Be flexible make changes where necessary not on the regimental 70th minute. Do things differently surprise Fergie make him revise his game plan. Oh and no silly free kicks
outside the area . Never give a sucker an even break.

  8. rico says:

Morning Adam. yes, I agree we have but must do my bit on a match day. Or at least try…

As for Gonalons, I doubt there is any substance in the story, The Metro are well know for their ability to make things up….

  9. deabbey says:

If the players can approach the game with rightly i don’t see why we can not beat them they are beatable common gunners you can do this.

  10. rico says:

    Morning devil and thanks….

Potter, the linesmen will play a huge part today, got to hope they can keep up…..

However, if we play sideways, crabby, boring backwards football, Dowd will have no problems….

  11. Adam says:

    Make things up?
I am shocked Rico. You’ll be telling me next that The Bleacher Report isn’t a divine publication.

  12. Judge me in May says:

    Morning all,

I fear we would get a good beating by the champions today..
They want to do it for RVP..
Of course they will get all help from the officials..
Wenger has to play the Ox..
Otherwise it is side way back passes and shocking crossing..
    Hope I am wrong though…

  13. Lexoshoke says:

Morning Rico, Scot, Adam, Dev et All.
Itz been a while but av been spying on u guys everyday. Can’t hold back than to comment today, I sincerely hope n pray the lads step up their game today coz anytin short would lead to defeat. Could som1 plss tell Arsene to start d Ox. Btw Scot the day ramsey gets an hatrick…. Well well I reserve ma comment coz it aint gouna happen anytime soon. I predict an Arsenal Win, fingers still crossed though

  14. Adam says:

I sense the putrid stench of the hand of Mike Riley in sending Dowd. He is probably buying him a ten-sausage fry-up for breakfast as I write.

  15. W.A.T.H says:

We all know exactly how we will play exactly the formation and Fergie knew it when he saw the fixture list..! AW won’t change to mix things up a little we’ll be predictable as usual it’s just a matter of are we up for it do we want it and do we play with tempo or the slow backwards and sideways rubbish that allows the opposition to brew a cuppa and sit and have brekkie while we make 50 passes in our own half………..

    Pls Not………..!!

  16. nick says:

The scam is over the goat and his cronies need to go.He has made us the joke of world football the old fool is still trying to make his spectacular budget buy.. of the century. All my respect for this man has long gone we will never win anything under him.He has turned our mighty arsenal in a feeder club we are a million miles away from the league and realistically we are a europa team not champions league quality at all.WENGER OUT

  17. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all,
Nice moral boosting Post Rico, we certainly need a bit of boosting.
Wouldn’t suprise me if he puts Podolski in the middle today, many will think that Theo will get the nod, but against United i feel Theo is a bit lightweight. But should Wenger play Theo i hope i am wrong. I said yesterday that i didn’t fancy our chances today, i hope i’m wrong. Many are saying that Rednose will play a weakend side seeing as they are champions and also that Wenger has done them a favour with the Dutchman. Rednose will be up for this one, he will want victory over Wenger he will want to rub his nose in it . I have always thought that as soon as this fixture comes round knee’s start knocking, right through the squad. I would play Gervinho in this game, i feel that the Gerve will try and dribble past anybody with no fear of anything, whether he releases it or not is another matter. Our only shining light is that Spuds dropped points yesterday and that makes all the difference, our players might be lifted by that and realise that top 4 is possible. this game will be a real test for us and i only hope they are up for it. Van Persie is flying, if he plays he will want to make his mark, i feel he may get a hostile reception and that will make him all the more determined. Lets face it we know how he can embaress lets make sure he is well looked after. I hope i end the day with egg all over my face, as this is make or break time

  18. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, what is wrong with the Bleacher report??
There is a lot to be said for a little fantasy each day 🙂
Lexoshoke, get ya cash on mate…Ramsey will be banging them in!!
    Put your house on it.
    Trust me.
    Would i lie…..

  19. frednerk says:

    Morning All,
The metro’s Jamie Sanderson, used to be a good link a few years ago.
Have to agree with adam on Gonalons,
watched him the other night, thought he was a bit lazy.

The Ox has to play some part to-day,Man in form.

Wenger’s at it again, with his mind boggling comments.

He feels United would have won the title without the grey Tosser now.

In december he said the grey tosser was the main reason the mancs were so far ahead.
And he went to tell Fergie, the grey tosser is a better player than you think.

Is he a wind up or has he really lost the plot.

  20. rico says:

    Morning Judge, Lexo and Sp….

Good point Judge about the Mancs wanting the victory for the old badger…

Thanks Sp – neither Pod or TW are strong enough to play the lone striker imho, wish we’d go 442…

You are most probably right Wath.

  21. rico says:

Off to do a few things, want to be done in time to watch Reading batter Qpr…. Hopefully….

    Catch up a little later.

  22. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners

    Morning Rico, nice post…

Morning Adam, give em a cheer for me mate. I reckon that it’ll be a great atmosphere over there today.

All the emotion and frustration that has built up over this feckin useless season, will be poured over Judus and his mates (cnuts) from Salford today.

    It should be memorable.

    Anyone recall Stapleton’s return???

I suspect that it could get a tad poisonous this afternoon.

    Enjoy… 😀

  23. Lexoshoke says:

Rico u spot on on d 442 formation coz datz only when the team’s full strength would be seen.. Wishful tinkin though coz Monsiour Wenger would never do dat

  24. allezkev says:

Scott, you’ll be a long long time, if you’re waiting to see Ramsey score a hat-trick.

Aaron may or may not be a lot of things, but nobody could ever accuse him of being a goalscorer.

  25. Adam says:

Hi Kev. We will. Only sorry you won’t be there mate. But we will have a banana to absent friends. 🙂

  26. W.A.T.H says:

AK, “mates from Salford… Most r from East Anglia Devon & Cornwall….! 😉

Not decided on drinking establishment yet mate….!

I remember Stapleton’s return… Today could well be pretty tasty over there BUT turn all that hatred into cheering the team on that’s what matters… players come and go they are NOT Arsenal…! The fans and the Club is what makes Arsenal..!

  27. devilgunner says:

That was an exquisite Sunday dinner mates. Stewed rabbit topped up with a couple of glasses full with .Peach Wine.

  28. devilgunner says:

I did not say that something was wrong. I said it was delicious 😉

    oh I forgot…………Rico likes live Rabbits. 😉

  29. devilgunner says:

Rabbit stewed in wine and pineapple is delicious. Especially if potatoes are included.

Pastizzis (maltese cheesecakes) are indeed delicious…….however they have a high amount of calories per cheesecake (around 500) and they are not good for your cholesterol level. But once in a while they are very good.

  30. devilgunner says:

I am the eternal optimist. I keep dreaming that we will hand them back their 8-2 annihilation. except that we score 11 and they get 0 with all our starting players scoring a goal each. 😉

sadly I wake up and realize it is just that…..a dream.

  31. allezkev says:

Never mind about ‘Bunny Stew’ Coach.

Do you remember the Eire National team, and when you met ‘Moneybags’…?

    Karma eh?

    Lata again. It’s busy 🙂

  32. devilgunner says:

I do remember the Eire national team……….and meeting Stapleton and Brady. And I remember rightly so Brady being suspended for two matches for slapping a ball boy in the 2nd half when we were holding them to a 0–0 draw. Moneybags scored in the 89th minute that day and I have hated him ever since. It was around 1982/83 I think around 30 years ago.

we surely enjoyed pelting them with bananas and carrots when they were going out of the stadium that day towards their coach.

  33. herbert chapman 2 says:

A BBC report states the cl domination the rf craves is proving elusive.Even he cannot replicate his epl stranglehold to the cl. This is too high a mt for him.
My greatest fear was with RVP,he could win everything on earth. Thankfully Mourino stopped him in his track.
I just hope Wenger can clincj cl soccer and make the gunners aforce. I think all neutral fans are sick and tired of the rf winning with the connivance of the refs.
A time will come when his dominance will bestopped by Mourino or Arsenal.Believe me,he will go when the winning stops.

  34. Adam says:

Devil. Pessimist – and I am afraid a realist. That’s what going to The Emirates these days has made me. To be an optimist would be to reject the evidence of my own eyes. I am though, always optimistic that surprises can and do happen. These days I just pay the money, sit and watch and treat it all with a shrug. I try not to get too depressed when things don’t go well. But, you know, I would love to have those old feelings that we could win any game because we had such a strong squad back again. Being a Gooner has a tragi-comedy element these days.

Booooo! I hope the boys are up for this one. Restore some pride!! And please someone get in v. Pursie’s face.

    Hello, all!!

  39. W.A.T.H says:

Pride and passion and commitment is exactly what we need to show Micko and as AGAG says someone needs to boot vP up in the air very early doors and wind him up as we all know the crowd will get to him and he can be volatile… get the tosser sent off what a great return that would be lol

Then we smash em 3-0 and Aaron gets his hat-trick and Scott buys us all a round in the boozer as he retires on his winnings…!

  40. EastSidePaul says:

Do you think poor RVP gets a hostile reception today? Gee.. I sure hope not..

But yes, I get where you are coming from…

    Come on Reading….

  54. DutchGooner10 says:

    Afternoon Rico.

Are your bubbles meant to be a smart reference to Wenger’s plastic bottle?

My bottle for today is an award winning rose wine. Whatever happens. LOL

  55. rico says:

Afternoon Dg, not at all but I like your idea. Nice to see you are taking a day off today 😉

A nice glass of rose, I hope you are celebrating whilst drinking it…

Was Jenks that good when he came from Charlton Rico? The talent was there.

I guess Lowton, who has already played in the premier is much better then Jenks was when he came. And although I saw him play only 3 times I liked what I saw on the technical side.

  72. tsgh says:

Jenks is a had worker Dev. We need his type in the squad But Lowton is a better player at the moment. Maybe because he is playing more often. But playing for AV in a relegation battle will be different to playing against FC Bayern in October imho…

    Chavs 1-0… swansea very sloppy…

  73. DutchGooner10 says:

    Ginge

So you been to my recommendation? The kids museum with lots of educational adventures to explore. My niece had a blast too.

  74. tsgh says:

Yes… DG. My lil boy wants to go back. We stayed at the Royal Victoria which was very central… walked every where we went. The chips and Mayo was good…

    Britton gives away a penalty…

Oz that is what I was saying about M. Laudrup yesterday

  75. Wavy says:

    Two terrible omens:
I’ve just seen a magpie – one for sadness. I’ve looked for another, two for joy – nothing doing!

Also old rednose has been on the radio talking about champeeun weags. any ideas anybody? Our next season may depend on this result. Not a small game.
The players have to believe they are playing Bayern away, same result will do me. But, not too confident about today’s result tbh.
Hope for the best but fear the worst!

    2-0 to the Arsenal, please.

  76. devilgunner says:

Ginge………Jenks is my favourite player. so to say that Lowton is a bit more technically advanced means something. However I think you are right that playing vs BM in October is different to playing in a relegation battle.

But I would like him to be at AFC and share the position between him and Jenks. Eventually I feel that Jenks will become a centreback in the BFG mould. So that would make signing Lowton a necessity. And he is English and still young to learn.

  77. rico says:

Ts – maybe he knows his summer destination….

    Devil – I wasn’t questioning Lowton’s ability, I haven’t seen him so just asking your view 😉

  78. tsgh says:

Yes very good point about Jenks moving central Dev… Rico thinks likewise… I believe so too…

I think SYG always says Jenks needs to get rid of some basic habits, he has to become a bit more polished. The think he needs to stop is poking the ball and then loooking to find someone to pass to… Lowton seems to know where the ball is going before it comes to him;but like you I have only seen AV play like 3 or 4 times… but I thought he was very good against manure…

Personally, I was thought Jenks is the closest to G.Neville we will ever have at Arsenal… maybe more Dennis Irwin

  79. Scott from Oz says:

Very early morning here, but times are good hahaha.
    That is one.
    Stick it to these pricks!!

  80. Micko says:

Tsgh, you mentioned a certain Viv Anderson earlier, same kinda build as Jenks, he could do a lot worse.
    C’mon Arsenal.

  81. devilgunner says:

That was great start to set up our goal. Its a testament of RVP’s resilience that even when he was slipping he managed to toe poke the ball to one of our players to start up our attack from which we score.

Theo has scored……..let’s wait for the other ten.

  82. devilgunner says:

Rico….That was great start to set up our goal. Its a testament of RVP’s resilience that even when he was slipping he managed to toe poke the ball to one of our players to start up our attack from which we score…………….

……you can put that paragraph in tomorrow’s post if you would like.

  83. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, i actuallymanaged some kip before kick off for a change 🙂
Devil, 10…..yeah, why the hell not??

  84. devilgunner says:

The way I would like it…….

    Theo. with a counter attack…….1-0
    Podolski with a header…………..2-0
Cazorla with a long range curler…3-0
    Rosicky buildup…………………….4-0
Ramsey with a screamer from the penalty spot 5-0
    Arteta…..Penalty 6-0
Sagna witha miss hit cross 7-0
    Gibbs with a tap-in………….8-0
    Mertesacker header……….9-0
    Kozzer witha toe poke…….10-0
    Chezzer with a penalty…..11-0

the only drawback to that lot would be the following……would Dowd award us two penalties in the same match???

  85. tsgh says:

Alan Smith talking shite about tackles… opta say we have made the 2nd highest number of tackles this season…

  86. rico says:

Ts – take his comment for what he means – when did we last start a game like this??

A long time ago is my answer and had we played all season, like we are right now, we wouldn’t be scraping points up for a top 4 finish..

  87. devilgunner says:

crikey…….he has booked Jones. An English International Manure player. What’s up with Dowd today. Christmas still has 8 months to go!!!!

  88. rico says:

He thought twice about booking RvP, then showed balls!

Well done Dowd…. Would have preferred a red 😉

  89. rico says:

I don’t see one lazy player on the pitch Ts.

You seem to just have an agenda against a few….

    Walcott
    Cazorla
    Podolski

Week in and week out you slate them…..

  90. devilgunner says:

BFG….you muppet. why did you try your best to avoid kneeing RVP’s head when he fouled you. you should have thumped his head in.

  91. tsgh says:

And they say I am biased… Evra gone all the way to our goal area and our rw is watching… tsk tsk

  92. devilgunner says:

So TV and BS both contrive to present the greedy badger with a goal in each of his games at AFC.

  93. Scott from Oz says:

We looked very, very good until a moment of madness brought Yanited right into the game.
Stupid challenge from an experienced defender under the circumstances.
    Stupid.

  94. tsgh says:

No Scott… we were beginning to lose the key battle before they scored… what are AW and SB doing? Nani and Evra are doubling up on Sagna when he gets to united goals side but we are allowing those two to over run our rhs…

  95. Lewis says:

Good first 30. We needed halftime, utd were beginning to dominate and we were making a lot of silly mistakes. Ominous signs.

  96. DutchGooner10 says:

    Devil

I thought you were a bit premature talking inking Lowton and life without Sagna. Now I see your point. Liability waiting to happen since he refused the contract extension, he’s been dire ever since, got his mind an a transfer.

  97. tsgh says:

Lewis because 6 players can not defend for the whole team constantly at that tempo for 45 minutes straight… especially against top sides.

  98. joaquim moreira says:

TW must help much more Sagna.
MU now is forcing our right side.
We must shot outside area, We those players will be very difficuult in crosses and the aerial balls.

  99. tsgh says:

The commentator thought Rednose had lost the midfield battle by playing 2 vs 3 in midfield; but he forgets Fergie always plays 2 in midfield against us and double up on either flanks because he knows our wingers never defend or track back.

It works all the time… we have tried hard to make them play through the middle but…

    Anyway still 2-1…

  100. devilgunner says:

The Ox for Theo would be best. Who would you take out for JW…..Arteta, Aaron and Rosicky are all playing a good level

  101. stevepalmer1 says:

Sagna is working his socks off, he has no one there to help him Walcott passes a ball then legs it they have to stay and help. We have to remember that Sagna is not a winger. He runs up and is the man to cross but he also has to get back to defend and Walcott just looking for glory. Gibbs is the same on the other side we must support them better.

  102. agirlagunner says:

Yes, Utd were beginning to find their footing in midfield. But that was totally unnecessary from Sagna. Careless pass, reckless tackle. Didn’t even have the decencey to RvP’s ankle some damage. 😀

  103. DutchGooner10 says:

    Ginge

Other than that, Sagna seems to need a few more touches than usual. The extra got him into trouble, notice how he does the same when cueing up for a cross.

  104. tsgh says:

Thanks SP1 at least I am not seeing things…
I love Theo… I always say he is a big game player buy apart from that he needs to watch the way Muller and Robben and Lahm, Ribery, Alaba work together…

  105. devilgunner says:

you are right Sir SP. But he committed two schoolboy errors in the same action.

You cannot pass back without looking up to whom you pass. and then the first thing is to go on the goal side of the player not try to toe poke the ball away in the pen area.

otherwise I agree about your opinion of Theo.

What if that error by BS fucks up the champions lge qualification??

  106. tsgh says:

I am with you on Ox… Dev;if by 75th minute it is still 1-1 I will bring TV and Gerv on to work their socks off too…

  107. stevepalmer1 says:

I like Theo but his work rate is shit.
i can only hope he gets better. Having said that Walcott booked for a tackle fcuking hell. Evans i’m sure must really been off but i’ll check it later

  108. tsgh says:

He’s playing in the position fans want him to play in… no.9

Joker… if AW does not buy a proper striker the divorce papers will be served… 😡

  109. devilgunner says:

For heaven’s sake…….substitute Sagna. We want to remain with 11 players on the pitch. That was a stupid tackle when you are on a yellow already. He simply flew on Shrek

  110. Scott from Oz says:

Sagna simply can not handle the workload and speed of the game any more, imo.
He needs to stop bombing forward so much as he leaves us exposed too often.

  111. tsgh says:

70 minutes gone and our so called best player has again not turned up for another big game…

    Good clearance by BS..

  112. devilgunner says:

good sub by AW. the panzer was anonymous today.

Hope that Gerv manages to score…………but we have to hope wont we.

  113. tsgh says:

    Hi Emma…

Another point proven that Poldi is not a no.9 and LG are clueless…

That tackle by Jones shows why they are champions… no hollywood players

  114. Scott from Oz says:

Kev, i was thinking that earlier.
No hold up play, and a few crosses that would have suited the big fella.

  115. allezkev says:

Podolski was pretty invisible at C/F at the start of the season.

Seems Scott, that Wenger had a serious problem concerning that position…

  116. allezkev says:

Hmm, that’s interesting Rico, not sure that Gervinho or Walcott is an option at C/F…

    Podolski is ineffective at C/F…

Might as well play Chuba Akpom… 🙄

  117. Scott from Oz says:

Kev, that and a DM and we are flying.
Having said that, our defence has been bloody solid, bar for one moment lol.

  118. tsgh says:

Emma… on JW he is an Arsenal darling… AW let Ozyakup leave so that he can create an English star for the media… 😉

  119. Scott from Oz says:

    Great game.
    We were the better side.
    We gifted them a result.
Looking at the table, i think a draw is a decent result.
It was more important NOT to lose than it was to win.
Spuds and Chelski still to play.
If we get wins at our last few, we will make it.
The ball is firmly in our court.
    Night all.

  120. tsgh says:

Good efort but not good enough… at least they showed desire…

One very awkward and ‘heads-gone’ moment changed the game but…

  121. agirlagunner says:

We were the much better side. Sloppy play from Sagna gifted United the draw. I thought Ramsey was MoTM.

Ginge, seriously about Cazorla??? He was trying to get us into the box, at least.

  122. eastsidepaul says:

He was far better than Ramsey tsgh, so if he “didn’t turn up today” what does that say about ramsey.

  123. tsgh says:

I hear you Dg… impatience can make or breal players…

Agag, I have watched Santi since he was at Villareal and he never turns up..

He is a very good player don’t get me wrong. I just wish he was like Theo in big games. But maybe if he did he would be playing for RM or Barca not us… 😉

  124. tsgh says:

It will happen Emma… we will qualify….

But then again if we do not millions of fans christmas will come early… AW will get the sack or will not renew his contract 😉

  125. agirlagunner says:

That’s the thing, Ginge. he’s scored goals that’s won us games. You’re being unduly harsh on him. 😉 He and Walcott are our joint top scorers, aren’t they? He didn’t sign up to be our glamor game scorer.

And ESP, Ramsey was NOT poor today. 😉

  126. DutchGooner10 says:

Santi needs protection. He goes twist and turn mode to avoid physical confrontations. Someone like Fellani would do great blocking onrushing defenders or their vision, clearing his run path.

  127. rico says:

Esp. Some say Santi is our weakness. I disagree.

Ramsey. Did a lot, but his passing when we were on top was awful, he really could have changed the game…

Pod did well, especially as that was his first time playing there in the PL.

We seriously miss a striker, and we miss something else in midfield…

  128. eastsidepaul says:

AGAG, I think Ramsey did okay today, just think Santi is the only player that can make things happen, he rarely puts a foot wrong. Forced a good save out of DDG today.

  129. ozgunner10 says:

gets very little credit this lad but Arteta again was superb – never saw rooney due to him clearly doing his job so well

  130. ozgunner10 says:

Ramsey did ok, had a few air balls and just lacks that class you need in the pessure moments but gettiing better

  131. tsgh says:

Dna… when have I ever said Santi is shite?

I say he is our best player but he should turn up in big games… if people are going to be emotional about it then…. suit yourselves!

The same can be said of TH14… that is why he was not even played by France in Semi’s and finals…

He scored a wonder goal against RM that is it… he was missing rest of the match…

  132. emma says:

Santi turned up today. There was no movement upfront for 68mins that was when anonymous podolski was sub

  133. tsgh says:

Twisting words again… I never never said SC19 was or is a weak link…

Think what you think… I am not going to be educated about football from people who last week where saying Poldi was our best striker…

  134. stevepalmer1 says:

Sagna Definitely got a touch on the ball No penalty, but as usual no one saw it. So just the one mistake not two. But in my opinion he played like two players, and still running at the end.

  135. joaquim moreira says:

Podorsky only received balls for gave them to rosicky. Is too short again. He is not a central forward but has a good shot. He and the team must prepare space for his shot. Nothing were happenned.
TW not get back and not defend. He scored an offiside goal. He can’t play at a winger. not a central forward too. His position is inside between the line and middle making diagonals between the left back and the central back.
    Ox was very unhappy today.
    Sagna could be sent off
For me, our best players were the two central backs.

  136. agirlagunner says:

Our boys had a great game. Until the closing moments, we were at least trying to score.

I’m still worked up about that donut, Sagna’s stunt.

  137. DutchGooner10 says:

    Rico

Its the midget size of our players that’s been bothering me for quite a while now. Exactly get some beasts in. Game changers.

And soup up their diet or something. RIP and others looking more muscled since moving.

  138. emma says:

koscielny was brilliant today. Marshaled the defence bar sagna gifted goal. I guess podolski wont complain again if he doesn’t get a start or play CF

  139. tsgh says:

Messi or Lavezzi do not need a beast next to them…

people think SC19 has hard a better season than Carrick…

  140. ozgunner10 says:

once again you must look at the summer transfer window for the error – Wenger went with one unproven striker for season and so often we have missed not having that option

  141. stevepalmer1 says:

Today has shown that we need a centre forward as if we didn’t know that already.. I know Theo scored al be it offside but he doesn’t work enough and is being carried if he wont play in his best position then there is no point keeping him. We cannot afford to carry anybody.

  142. DutchGooner10 says:

    SP

I saw Sagna touching ball first in original play. But after that they only run replays from angles that made think twice to claim it wasn’t a penalty offence.

  143. agirlagunner says:

Dutch, I agree, man for man, our players looked smaller next to their opposite numbers in United.

emma, Koscieny was brilliant, I agree.

  144. agirlagunner says:

rico, that is typical of the classless act that is Rednose. Please, they did not deserve anything from this game.

  145. tsgh says:

    I agree Oz!

Poldi looks good when he plays in a front 3 in the middle with the 2 wingers playing ahead of him like he did at Cologne… or as part of a front 2.

Poldi should have improved his movement but as Jupp Heynckes said as a caretaker manager in 2008, Poldi refused to work hard off the ball….

  146. DutchGooner10 says:

    Sorry Ginge

But both Messi and Lavezzi play different leagues. I often wonder if Messi was considered the Messiah had he played EPL.

    Doubt it massively.

  147. rico says:

Dg – totally agree. Have said many times that our boys need to eat more pies and drink more Guinness…

    They are too lightweight….

Not suggesting they should be like Santos of course 😉

  148. emma says:

It’s past now just seen a replay, Sagna got a touch on the ball 🙁 Fergie was ranting dowd was pissing down yellow cards on his players

  149. stevepalmer1 says:

I thought that as well Dutch, dodgy cameraman. 🙂
i noticed that Utd had the same amount of bookings today that they had right through the season, are they trying to ballance the number so it wont show up on the end of season stats

  150. Micko says:

    Did someone mention Guinness ?
Personally I’m growing to love our kamikaze style football.
How many more chances are we gonna keep pishing down the drain to secure CL football next season.

  151. tsgh says:

Sagna is shite so he will go to PSG.

We will replace him with Jenks and most people will be happy… even though those same guys thought he was not fit to be in the dressing room let alone play for Arsenal 10 months ago?

If we had 10 Sagna’s in our team we will not be sitting here ranting…

10 maradona’s never win you a trophy,,, they might win you a few matches… you need a bit of Edgardo Bauza,Caniggia and Batista.

If all the Makele’s, Baresi’s, Wouter’s and Keoman’s are going to be underrated then there will not be a Van Basten or Bebeto…

  152. DutchGooner10 says:

    Night Ozy

Rico / Agag Our Next Gen run got plugged by some hybrid steroid youth from Stamford Bridge. It was talked about on George Birds Forum after we lost the ticket to a much deserved finale.

Never understood the FA not looking into this.

  153. tsgh says:

Emma-Why do you think Rednose did not go for Theo, Ox but outbid us on Smalling, Jones and Powell when he knew we were after them or had bids for them?

  154. emma says:

Ramsey has taken a step forward by overcoming his demon(legbreak). Hopefully next season he gets to where he was before his legbreak. he was immense today(everywhere breaking up play, intercepting and putting in tackles). If we had a proper striker we could have won the game

  155. emma says:

“Walcott was apparently was offside for his goal. The referee apologised to Rio Ferdinand saying he got it wrong.” – Sir Alex Ferguson

  156. emma says:

tsgh – b/s they put in a shift. That’s why it will be difficult for kagawa unless he improves his workrate

  157. Micko says:

Tsgh, Sagna had an off day, bad day at the office, call it what you want, was lucky to still be on the pitch at the end of the game, he’s still the best right back at the club, put in a great challenge to stop Jones from scoring a certain goal just before his headless chicken moment, for some to question if he has cost us a top 4 spot is plain crazy, the whole team must carry that squarely on their shoulders with some really pathetic performances over the season.

  158. tsgh says:

Diego Maradona: Height- 166 cm (5 ft 5 in)
    Romario: Height: 1.68 m (5 ft 6 in)- Brazil
    George Best: 5’8″- England
    Gianfranco Zola 168 cm
    iniesta- 5’8
    Xavi-5’6
    Del Piero -5’8
    Thomas Hessler -5’5
    Sergio Aguero -5’7
    Gheorghe Hagi -5’7
    Juninho -5’5
    Defoe- 5’6.5
    Tevez- 5’6

Some of the world’s best players were all vertically challenged

  159. tsgh says:

    Exactly Micko…
I am not defending Sagna but I always rate effort. I find it strange when fans say a player is not meant to defend…. even Ronaldo defends now.

But I will blame AW for that. He has made the team like Brazil of today and Spain of the 90’s..

    Emma- exactly my thought…

  160. emma says:

Just watched the goal that led to manure pen. Looks like Sagna’s mind switched off temporary thinking Van stapleton was still playing for arsenal. He just simply passed the ball to van stapleton but realize a tad late, tracked back and made the tackle

  161. DutchGooner10 says:

I’m vertically challenged as well. That’s on days the sun is shining, skirts are short and high heels announce their near presence.

  162. tsgh says:

    Typical Rednose – Emma

I saw Dowd apologise to Vpursey for the yellow card too… I am sure Vpursey now understands why we lost the 6% of the matches that we needed to win to make us champions ..

  163. tsgh says:

He could have Emma… it happens even in battle. Blue on blue it is called 😉

But he did that in the CL final against Birmingham so… 😉

  164. stevepalmer1 says:

Personally speaking i think our defence is asked to do too much. Our full backs are up and down all game our CBs are up for every corner why. Because we have midgets up front that’s why, and that should be put right with a couple of decent strikers. Our midfielders should be doing the wing work ,if we don’t use wingers, leave our defence to defend. I would just like to say that the lads gave a very good performance today against the champions, and if i speak the truth i didn’t think they had it in them. And yes even with a draw i feel like i have egg all over my face.

  165. Micko says:

    Don’t forget Terry Gibson tsgh.

SteveyP, 6.32, moan when they’re carded and moan when they’re not, cheer up.

    Laters Gooners.

  166. tsgh says:

Emma a lot of people include Dev and yourself have talked about the system we play needing a 30 goals a season striker…

I think SB and Banfield has done very well organising the structure of the team when we do not have the ball… what we have to do now is spend big to get a prolific striker… they don’t come cheap though so what we have to do is let one of the big teams buy the Falcao and cavani’s of this world and then we can pounce…

  167. tsgh says:

The last 9 games has been superb… the attitude even against Fulham was very good… we just need a squad who can put their body on the line and a striker or two to make us potential winners again…

I am very proud of the boys today!

  168. stevepalmer1 says:

Ginge, He knows what he’s talking about 🙂 Thats me done nte all you fairly happy Gooners 🙂

  169. DutchGooner10 says:

    Ginge

No month arrowed yet. Just something I have set my mind on. First the finance then I’ll pick a date suitable to seeing regulars on HH IRL.

  170. tsgh says:

Even AW mentioned how his new recruits have failed to perform against the bigger teams. and how Poldi and OG12 have not scored against the top 6 teams…

  171. Judge me in May says:

Let’s face it, you are all right in a way, the whole team is unbalanced.
    Has been for a while..
We have no recognized striker or a winger..
    Midfield is not creative enough…
No intelgent movement upfront make creativity even harder..
We could have 10 Ramseys, but we would be like Norwich City..
It’s harsh to judge podli in one match especially against manure..
Ox has lost momentum and match fitness…
It’s all mismanagement to the highest order.. .
Love is blind.. But come on.. Ramsey motm!!?
    Same goes to wenger.. Common!!
I thought I heard all catch phrases from wenger when he said the team is serious!!
today he came up with disappointed love for RVP by the booing fans..
    You couldn’t make this up!!!

  172. devilgunner says:

So we have to face a team already relegated plus two fighting relegation. That means they should come out to attack…..meaning that they leave some open spaces at the back.

Bearing in mind that the chavs and totts have to face each other next week while the chavs have the semifinal and final (probably) still to play, and the totts have to face sunderland, southampton and stoke (two of them are right in the mix and sunderland not secure, plus the chavs have to face Manure and Villa away and Everton it still is in our hands.

I think that the chavs will loose against both Manure and Totts, draw vs Everton and win the other two. That will make it 7 points. Totts will win against the chavs but drop points against sunderland and stoke giving them a total of eight points.

That will mean the table will see us with 73 points (if we win them all), the chavs with 71 and the totts with 70

hope it turns out to be so

  173. tsgh says:

DG-Summer in UK is awesome… I never understand why people go on holidays when it is hot in London…

  174. tsgh says:

Dev that is the attitude… lets stay positive for now… if we fail we have all summer to groan and moan; no point in starting now. That is my opinion at least…

  175. DutchGooner10 says:

    Devil

Tnx for the math. Was just about to launch the premier table/run in fixtures to find out.

  176. DutchGooner10 says:

Seems 4th or 3rd lies around 70-75 points every season.

Ginge I plan to do the package. Stadium tour, Highbury Museum, High Profile Match at the Ems, dinner club meeting and some sight seeing.

  177. tsgh says:

I have put a draw down against Wigan… I think more than 7 points will clinch the qualification spot… tight but…

  178. rico says:

Dev – I’m not couting any points before they are won or lost.

Just hope hope the Lords are on our side…

Off to scribble for tomorrows post now so will bid you all a good evening/night….

    Be safe all….

    Nighty…..

  179. tsgh says:

One of those Emma. It could have worked with the subs but…

Ox should have stayed out wide but he kept cutting inwards… Rapheal looked very nervous when Gerv came on…

  180. Lee says:

I thought it was a good game that we should/could of won, imagine if we’d played with this tempo and commitment for the majority of the season? This team needs four quality players, a “spine” plus bring in some of the fringe players…… and we’re not as far away from wining something as people believe!
    COYGs!!!

  181. joaquim moreira says:

Rosicky was tired. Was the most important player until the replaced.
We need a change at that moment for change the game again.
Qpr is relegated. Wigan could be relegate next week.
I don’t know if it’s an advantage or not.
We not depends only for ourselves now. If Toots win versus Chelsea we will be relegate for the 5th position.

  182. Lee says:

Win our last three games plus our superior goal difference we’ll be fine……it’s firmly in our hands, play like we did today and we’ll be fine!

  183. tsgh says:

Talking about big game players… have you noticed that Rednose only watches a potential buy when he is playing against the potential champions of a league…?

Last year we watch Kagawa for months…. fergie watched him against Bayern and he bought him… big game

  184. Scott from Oz says:

Guys, we have just outplayed the champions, and we are pulling apart who played badly??
    What is it with Gooners?
Podolski was pretty quiet, but each time i have said i want him played central, i hale also said as part of a 4-4-2 system Ginge, so i will pull you up a bit there mate.
Santi was terrific but not dominant….someone mentioned alongside a Fellaini style beast would allow that and i agree totally.
    Ramsey was terrific again.
A few sloppy passes and they were pointed out pretty quickly on here, yet Theo made a few that were let go…..we all have our favourites, Rico 🙂
    Arteta was great.
Our centre backs were absolutely fantastic.
Gibbs…did anyone mention him…..he was awesome, absolutely awesome.
A great game, a moment of madness cost us a win, so why are we ripping guys to shreds??
I think the poor performamces are from us, the fans.
That was one of the most exciting games i have ever seen, and i will take that from the game.
    Loved it.
    Tired today.
Stuff these monday morning games 🙂
Oh, and to my old adversary DNA, if all the guys ou mentioned should be in the championship, then the fact that they outplayed the champions means i really can’t take that comment too seriously, but each to their own mate 🙂
    What a bloody game!!

  185. Wavy says:

    SfO:
Pretty much I agree. I think the game was a really good spectacle. I think Arsenal shaded it, they were the better team, just. Why we have to diss our players beggers belief. Difficult to pick a mom, but I reckon I would give it to Ramsey, but really they were all pretty good.
Have times finally changed. Has the balance of power moved on?
Can we make the renowned and revered top four? So long as the chavs beat or only draw with the spuds I think we will be there in the mix for the CL for the 17th consecutive season and all that without ever winning it!
Same performance for the next three games we will be awarded the top four cup and Newcastle will provide a guard of honour!

  186. GunnerDNA says:

“I don’t think he scored, he scored a penalty,” Wenger said.
“It counts but it’s not completely the same.”

    Fucking ediot…..

  187. kel says:

good game but tbh we were toothless going forward, podolski was shit imo, the way i see it is if we don’t win are next 3 games no CL… ch5 here we come.. 🙁

  188. Scott from Oz says:

    I agree Kel.
In defence of Posolski, he would be much better with a striking partner, imo.
Wavy, I was being a little tongue in cheek, but yes, I really am surprised people weren’t more excited with that performance
    I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

  189. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. I was surprised to see so many empty seats at the game yesterday. Seems Man Utd aren’t the attraction they used to be. 🙂

  190. Lee says:

I think that the board and Wenger should of given manure the guard of honour…could of done it in August too!
    Morning all.

  191. tsgh says:

Morning all, evening Scott and Oz

Having re-watched the match again… I stick by my comments.

We will qualify! It was a very good performance by the boys. We just need to repeat it against QPR who will come to attack and Wigan who may be relegated.

I agree with you both Scott and Wavy… I think Arteta showed that he still has the legs to play for a few more years. Kos showed that he can keep the best of the best quiet. He needs to learn to keep the likes of Crouch quiet then he will be world class CB!

I don’t have favourites in football, I just like to call a spade a spade… always will!

Reading around the blogs, it seems people are beginning to come to the idea that a few of our players either sulk when they do not play in their preferred position or are out for themselves…

It is good that several fans both on the blogs and on twitter appreciate the effort and performance of Sagna bar the crazy moment.

As I always say the top teams win an extra 7 to 10% more games than we do in a season. What gives you that extra is a bit of class and a whole lot of hard work.

The invincible carried no passengers… even Reyes did his bit.

The reason why the so called special one sold Robben; he said he will only have players who will be professional and give 100% all the time…

The reason why maybe, Holland fail in tournaments most times even though on paper they have pure talent. Too many primadonas and passengers when it comes to defending…

Man u have no primadona’s in their squad… even Nani of all people was tracking back.

AW and SB need to sort the passengers out!

  192. tsgh says:

Especially IG. He should have been made to pick up Rednose’s chewed and discarded gum on the touch line to humilate him…

  193. Lee says:

I noticed the vacant seats from the comfort of the pub Adam. In Giroud & Podolski do we have two players that run in slow motion? Both look so slow….

  194. Lee says:

Apart from his howler I thought Sagna looked ok, put a couple of decent crosses into an empty box! Walcott needs to track back more to help out, imho, since his salary increase it all seems a bit beneath him.

  195. ozgunner10 says:

tsgh – was a bad mistake by Sagna and was very lucky to not be sent off but his work rate was excellent for mine and he did make one or two very timely tackles. If we slayed everyone who makes mistakes in this team, we’d have no one left!

  196. rico says:

I reckon TW was too frightened to track back and tackle. He did once and was so awful, he got booked 😉

  197. tsgh says:

    Hi Rico,

    Ah just 7 hours Oz?

People say football has become like basket ball and I agree not because it is non-contact but because footballers have to see the whole picture now…

A winger being offside on the wings is unprofessional and careless…. happening 1’s in a game like yesterday is very acceptable because adrenalin is flowing…

I know it seems like I am being harsh on a few of our players but my opinion does not really matter… I just think some of those players can be world class if they just applied themselves a little bit more.

I agree that maybe Theo knows he is not the best defender however, just shadowing a lb ensures your colleagues are not over run and the opposition lb does not receive a pass in advanced areas.

Lets look at the 2nd goal Bayern scored against Barca.. Muller and Robben double teamed on Alba… the same think Pires and TH14 use to do to Neville in the glory days… no defender can sustain long periods of double teaming…

imho … I think that was the reason why Ramsey was used on the flanks tactically against Chelsea and man city…

Pirlo scarely tackles or is he a beast but what he does is make sure he is in the write position at the right time…

    so too was Scholes…

John Barnes had a beer belly playing pro football in the late 80’s but he had the brains to contribute defensively for the dippers.

  198. tsgh says:

I wish I could Lee but he is news to me…

I watched Seville yesterday and he was not that impressive…

  199. tsgh says:

Kondogbia is not Arsenal material. Judging from yesterday he is very defensive. How he will fit into our system I can’t tell. He is more defensive than Makelel and that is saying his offensive passing is very poor.Is he better than Frimpong… from what I see no.. but they say Man city and RM want him too so…

  200. tsgh says:

He is too young for that position anyway… Aneke or Yennaris are true gooners lets give them a chance…

He will come in and then 3 years later when he is about to be world class, he will walk away…

  201. tsgh says:

I hope the media are wrong and we were looking at his colleague Gary Medel who is 26 y.o. A proper terrier. His nickname is the pitbull… I think he is like Dennis Wise and Roy Keane…

  202. Biscuitbum says:

Apologies if others have mentioned it, but Metro and Caught Offside have been indulging in lazy journalism, since the Gonalons story first appeared in `Gunnerblog` and all they have done is to regurgitate it. This gives the Gonalons story legs, and he would clearly make a decent replacement for Diaby.
