Morning all.
How on earth has Rob Holding got up so high? His legs must be strong and very springy. VvD, be afraid!
Kia Joorabchian, the man who clearly things he can solve everything has waded into the Mesut Ozil situation. The Metro has quoted him as saying he’d have sorted the problem out two years ago. No doubt by that he means he’d have found Mesut another club to play for because unless he’s undergone an intense football managerial course, he knows nothing about being a football manager. In fact wasn’t it someone of ‘his sort’ who pushed the club to dish out such a hideous contract in the first place? Arsenal didn’t have to agree to it of course but seeing as both Ozil and Sanchez were in their final year of contract, the club buckled under pressure to keep one of them. I remember at the time, Charlie Nicholas saying on Sky Sports that out of the two, Mesut was the one he’d rather see stay. I bet he regrets that now. The one thing Joorabchian did say which I agree with was that neither club nor player have benefited from this situation. Football wise I mean.
Matteo Guendouzi has used social media to suggest his hard work begins again at Arsenal. If Arsenal can’t sell him, the best situation for him and the club is for him to be of use. Arteta has made it clear that everyone will get a fresh start this season so it’s up to the player to grow up, work hard and play football.
Micah Richards seems to be flavour of the month, or future, I’m not sure which. I quite like him. He has a great laugh and he’s not top heavy with praise for his old team. If you watch A League Of Their Own, he was funny in the most recent episode. Anyway, he’s given his prediction for the season ahead. Crazy I know when the transfer window is still open and the new campaign not even kicked off yet but he has tipped Bukayo Saka to have a great season and young Miguel Azeez to be our best young prospect.
Don’t you just hate it when it’s written that a player is ‘the next…..?’ Well, Azeez is likened to Patrick Vieira. I spotted why too as he wears number 4. He’s 18 years old later this month but if he’s good enough, age shouldn’t be a barrier. Bukayo Saka has proved that.
Another of our young players went out on loan yesterday as John-Jules joined Doncaster. I’d hoped to see him along with a few of his under 23 teammates play in the domestic cups and the early rounds of Europa but many of them are also out on loan.
Still, we’ve got Mesut and Matteo for those fixtures.
See you in the comments guys.
Morning Rico and All
Would love to think another Paddy was born and on our books Rico 🤥
I know that Kia is probably being hypocritical as he’s speaking about doing something that he may have done for a client, but the part where you said a management course…that I found comical as the Ozil situation has nothing to do with a management course in itself.
The same situation that is going on with Ozil is going on with Bale and even Bale came out and said he tried to leave, but he was blocked.
The only thing from this situation we could be thankful for is the knowledge the board hopefully would get from it and not repeat the same mistake, by awarding a player a big contract when we only compete for top 4 and never won any major titles. Also Ozil’s numbers weren’t anything significant to award him that also.
Morning , grass to cut , back later.
Good morning all.
I posted this earlier this morning:-
Before there can be any question of selling Emi Martinez, the fitness of Bernd Leno must be tested beyond any doubt.
Leno suffered a severe injury and appears to have recovered from it physically at least but what about his mental recovery? Has he overcome the fear of a repetition? Every time he jumps for a ball will he have in the back of his mind the thought that a bad landing could put him out of the game for months?
If there is even a hint that his confidence has not be rebuilt his reliability must be in question.
I think he should be given at least until the January window for further rehabilitation, only then should he be considered for the number one keeper role.
Until then Martinez should be our starter in all Premiership games.
Morning all.
Plenty to like about Azeez, but a long way to go so let’s hope he keep progressing.
Rico, this shortened season could really have been a positive for Holding, imo.
He’s had some decent game time, but the small break will help his recovery from the knee injury.
I think we will see his best this season and can’t wait to see it.
Morning Fred, all. Miracles do happen. Lol
Great to have him back and best of luck to the young’s one
Myst, how else would he resolve the Ozil playing situation?
You could be right Scott. I can’t see Arteta throwing the two newbies in at the deep end. One maybe, but both, not imo.
BREAKING: Aston Villa have signed Ollie Watkins from Brentford for a fee of £28m, potentially rising to £33m in add-ons.
So maybe now that Brentford are flush that they will bid for Balogun?
Rico, good point.
Holding has shown glimpses of his quality, and seems to be over the knee injury so onwards and upwards for the lad, I think.
Let’s hope he stays healthy.
Or an experienced Greek defender Kev. Lol
Plus Scott, Mari, Chambers and Mustafi are out for a while yet.
The Mirror reckon Martinez has rejected a new Arsenal deal and Villa are still hoping to sign him.
Just watched Arsenal under 18 keeper Hein play for Estonia from what I have seen we look good in the keeper department for The next few years to come
Irrespective of David Luiz injury Mikel Arteta has made clear he wants Rob Holding as a centre-back option this season & the 24yo is now expected to stay at Arsenal rather than join Newcastle on loan. He’s also in line to start at Fulham on Saturday @TheAthleticUK #AFC #NUFC #FFC

11:20 – LACAZETTE SET FOR LYON RETURN?
Arsenal forward Alex Lacazette spoke to Lyon transfer chief Juninho Pernambucano earlier this year, the sporting director revealed to RMC Sport.
The Frenchman’s wages are a stumbling block for his potential return to his boyhood club but Juventus and Atletico Madrid remain interested in his services.
10:55 – ARSENAL OFFERED AREOLA?
Arsenal have been offered Alphone Areola on loan by Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Daily Mirror.
Second choice keeper Emiliano Martinez impressed last season when standing in for the injured Bernd Leno, but wants to be first choice.
Areola spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he was backup to Thibaut Courtois.
Everything Napoli
@NapoliAndNaples
Sokratis Papastathopoulos to Napoli is a done deal, he’ll leave Arsenal for free, and sign a 2-year-contract worth €3.5M per season with the Azzurri. (@mattinodinapoli)
4:13 PM · Sep 8, 2020
I think Arsenal should NOT sell matteo Guendozi. It will be a regret in the near future. He has the best qualities to excel in the near future.Plus Hector bellerin should stay
Yes Rico, an experienced Greek defender is just who they need at Griffin Park or whatever they call their new stadium. 🙂
What is Portuguese for ‘In The Know’..?
Sokratis on a free eh, seems like Arsenal are still outsmarting the market?
Seems all our players will leave for nothing!………………..great to get their wages back for someone else, but we cant get someone else if we dont get any money from sales!………………I think it`s called Catch 22!
Nice post Rico.

15:00 – IT’S EURO PAPERS TIME!
The Independent are reporting this afternoon that PSG are the frontrunners for Hector Bellerin, but over in Spain they are saying Barcelona are well and truly in the race.
Breaking | Alphonse Areola has passed a medical with Fulham. (RMC)
So,not on loan to PSG.
great post as always. I still think Ozil is better than Ceballos!
Nice one, Rico. Do you think Micah Richards will replace one of the departed on Soccer Saturday? I’d be happy with that, just not Clinton Morrison!! Argh!!
Le Coq.. have you watched Bloodline? I bet you’ve seen the new season of The Boys!
Cliton Morrison is a Spud!…………..say no more!
Haven`t seen Bloodline, Sue, what`s it about?
Will watch The Boys in a few mins time…………..I have to clean behind tv as Sky coming tomorrow to set up Sky Q! 🙂
About a family living in Florida keys.Their past contains dark secrets that they hope will remain buried. It was recommended to me to fill my Ozark void!! Will start it tonight!
Haha get your feather duster out 😂 I’ve not got Sky Q, just Sky+… let us know if it’s any good, Le Coq 👍
Surely everyone has their opinion, when it comes to who will be Arsenal’s number one, I would go with Leno on each day. Yes, i am not saying that Martinez is a bad choice but Leno still is my number one. Leno supported that shaky defence even before Arteta’s arrival and now when he got injured and Martinez did a tremendous job by simply doing what he was supposed to do by showing us that he can also fight for the starting spot..That was rely good because he made us not to miss Leno so much but if Leno is 100% fit then there no doubt that Arteta will still pick the German ahead of the Argentian and to me i see Martinez leave Arsenal to be number one somewhere else and it will be a good move for him. Clubs all over Europe are just watching this situation at Arsenal.
Godonga, he probably is as far as talent and skill goes but one is head and shoulders above the other when it comes to hard work etc.
Makes sense re Holding Jm
Kev, and a French midfielder, or is that pushing it? Lol
Thanks Sue, Lc, Godonga.
I think he will Sue, rumour has it that Alex Scott will be on there too.
Of course they do Reech, but only one matters. Arteta’s.
Loving these photos:

Guendouzi is back training with the first team 🙂👍
Getting ready for a new club hopefully. 😆
Rico the queue of people (clubs) clamouring to sign Guendouzi even socially distanced would not be very long. In the past couple of weeks three hasn’t even been a rumour of interest in either a purchase or a loan.
I rather think we will be blessed with his continuing presence at the club for some time to come.
If he responds well to Arteta’s offer of a fresh start all well and good, perhaps he will turn out to be a valuable squad player. Rearrange the following words into a well unknown phrase or saying.. Breath hold your don’t. 😉
I know Cicero. I think he’s having to return with his tail between his legs somewhat.
Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show:
“The one name that has got Arsenal fans really excited during this transfer window is Thomas Partey. He has been of interest to Arsenal for the entire summer but it requires a bit of a domino effect.
“Partey has got a release clause of £45m and you’d like for an outlay of that much, Arsenal would need to generate funds so they would need to sell.
“From the Atletico end, Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting that Atletico want the Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca for a potential replacement for Partey, but they would need the money Partey would bring to fund the move.”
BELLERIN TO BARCA?
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol told The Transfer Show:
“Talking about players who could potentially leave Arsenal, there’s also a story in the Spanish media.
“Sport, the newspaper who are very close to Barcelona, are reporting that Barca want to sign Hector Bellerin, who has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
“The report says initial talks have been held with Arsenal, but Barcelona see it as being a very tricky operation to sign him from the Gunners. And Sports says Barca have been quoted between 20-25m euros, which they say in the present climate is unthinkable. Barcelona cannot pay that much for Hector Bellerin.
“It’s interesting that he is being linked with moves away from Arsenal but it’s probably the fact they have got Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cedric Soares, who can both play right-back.
“I would have thought Bellerin would be the first choice right back, but obviously Mikel Arteta is aware of the fact he needs to sell to generate funds to buy more players in this window.”
Areola set to join Fulham.
PSG have offered Draxler for Guendouzi according to L’Equipe. No mention of money so a straight swap…
Man City and PSG enquiring about Aouar.
Bem informado
Draxler, haven’t heard his name for a while.
Well we’ve no chance if City and PSG are after Aouar as they’ll just stump up the money.
Draxler has injury issues Rico, I think that ship has sailed, we just want PSG to pay a decent fee then we can get Partey and happy days.
PSG reported to want Bellerin on loan…
Yeah right.
Do you reckon they’ll let us have Mbappe on loan?
I remember that we were interested in Draxler a couple of years ago but nothing came of it, he seems to have stalled in his development and if, as Kev says, he has injury problems too even a swap for Guendouzi would be a no no.
Barcelona unwilling to pay €25 million for Bellerin? They can do one!
If PSG want him on loan they must pay 100% of his wages and pay a €25million loan fee.
Draxler was one of Wenger’s “dream buys”. Not sure he fits MA’s squad additions. Auba not signing could turn in to one of this summer’s transfer conundrums. My feeling is that if a CL club, a big one bids for him he will move on, if the salary’s right! If not he’ll stay with us on the understanding that he can leave for free at the end of the season……or not!

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to end speculation over Arsenal future by signing new 3yr contract, which will enable him to become best-paid #AFC player. Arteta intervention key & relations with 31yo + father fundamental to getting deal over line
@TheAthleticUK
Our best signing of this transfer window. Imo
So Aubameyang to become Arsenal’s best payed player, this means he’s getting even more than Ozil’s £350,000 per week and that’s for the next three years. We have previously condemned Wenger and Gazidis for giving Ozil that ridiculous wage. How is this deal any different? It makes a mockery of the 55 redundancies.
unless Ozil is going . However it does appear that we are chasing the dragon if it’s accurate.
I’m not sure that we really had an alternative Cicero because nobody was paying us £50m for a 31 year old no matter how well he’s playing and running down his contract and letting him leave on a bosman would have started a riot.
As for the 55, well you could say exactly the same if we spent £45m on Partey or even a more outrageous £60m on Aouer, it’s not great and justifying it isn’t easy.
If Aubameyang is going to be our highest paid play I hope he does not miss any more easy goals.
Kev, at the time, allowing Ozil to run his contract down would’ve been every bit as bad, if not even worse.
I can’t remember too many fans complaining that we extended his contract to be fair.
Why is it the club said 18 months ago we’d not allow players to get into the last year of their contract again, yet it’s happened a few times since?
They got into this mess with Sanchez and Ozil . They could lose one but not two , Alexis wanted out for 20 minutes and Ozil screwed us to the wall.
Raul suggested that we need to be smarter in the market but we had already made the mistakes that are now haunting us .Looks like we might be going to do it again.
Just wondering did Arsenal sack 55 staff so they could pay Aubameyang what he wanted
That’s true Scott although there are slight differences given the age of Ozil at the time compared to Aubameyang now and what Aubameyang delivers and the fact that we were losing Alexis and it was all so close on the back of other recent contract disasters as in Van Persie, Fabregas, Walcott and Nasri.
I think we all were more relieved than happy Scott if I’m honest because losing both Ozil and Alexis would have made Arsenal look so weak and poorly run. The fact that at the time we were weak and poorly run doesn’t change how we felt at the time.
news:
1So with the future of one Arsenal forward seemingly resolve, it’s time to look at that of another. AS (via Sport Witness) claims Atletico Madrid have made their interest known in Alexandre Lacazette and that the French striker is keen on a move to the Spanish capital.
This is a tricky one for the Gunners. Lacazette is a proven goalscorer, but at 29-year-old it might not be wise to sign him to another contract. He isn’t as important to Arteta’s side as Aubameyang, so it might make sense to cash in this summer, especially with Gabriel Martinelli seemingly ready to take the step up.
2 It’s been in the pipeline for a while, but it seems Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might be about to finally pledge his future to Arsenal. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the striker is set to put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension to keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2024.
This should put an end the speculation around Aubameyang’s future, although there hasn’t been much chat of him leaving for Arsenal for some time now. Mikel Arteta is believed to have been a big factor in the forward’s decision to stay. Unsurprising. Have you see those eyes? Who could say no to them?!
3 Houssem Aouar is a man in-demand. The Lyon midfielder is wanted by Arsenal, with sporting director Juninho Pernambucano (remember his freekicks?) already admitting the French club has received an offer for the player from the Gunners. Now, though, Manchester City are set to make a move for Aour (according to the Daily Mirror) with Pep Guardiola believed to be a big admirer of the 22-year-old.
Both teams could use someone like Aouar for the coming season, although Arsenal’s need would appear to be greater. The continued exile of Mesut Ozil means they are desperately lacking a central creator. At City, Aouar would compete with Phil Foden for this place, but there could still be room for him after the exit of David Silva.
By giving Aubameyang his new contract Arsenal have committed themselves to paying £54.6 million PLUS however much in excess of Ozil’s £350,000 per week he is getting over the three year life of the new contract.
I just don’t see how that sort of money is justified, not only in the present Covid-19 situation, but even in normal times.
Cicero, and people complained about our wage bill under Ivan bahahahaha
I doubt very much that the redundancies have anything to do with the squad. Imo, there’s likely to be different budgets for different departments within the club and what players get paid bear’s little relevance to the staff behind the scenes.
Also, any pay increase to Aubameyang will be covered by losing a Ozil next summer so it’s only one year in practical terms. Plus other wages should be offloaded too.
Rico, when people (on social media) complain about losing Sokratis and some others for free, or very low transfer fees, I’m a little surprised as they tend to want such players gone, it lessens the financial burden on the club and if we asked for more, we’d probably be stuck with them so really, it’s a balancing act.
A few million lost now might mean we save twice as much if the players stays until the end of their contract, and if we really don’t want him at the club, it’s a good move.
That’s just a hypothetical situation, but could easily be the case right now.
There may well be different budgets, but the dosh all comes out of the same pot Rico.
but the dosh all comes out of the same pot Rico.
That’s what my missus says when her car needs petrol and I am driving .
Aubameyang will probably score anything between 75 and 80+ goals over the next three years, his age doesn’t really come into the equation but what he delivers does and will.
As far as the amounts involved and the Wuhan virus it’s just football and it lives in a bubble just like a lot of professions and businesses and those same professions and businesses will still be trading with China when this thing is over despite what its cost the rest of us and we’ll still go to the shops and buy stuff that’s manufactured in China because that’s what we do.
Ha ha Potter, ultimately yes but departmental budgets are a big thing in business. Including marriage 😂
Exactly Kev and how many millions would a top notch striker cost, before his salary was even discussed.
Agree Scott and the kind of players were selling, or most if who we assume are going is right, they’d go cheap ordinarily so in a COVID hit year, their value is less
question is will the fans turn on Arteta if Aubameyang fail to score over say 15 goals per year like they did on Wenger for giving Ozil that much
Geoff,
I don’t think so.
As we were warned before we signed Ozil, his demeanour and body language was something Arsenal fans would jump all over at the slightest dip in form.
Auba is upbeat and energetic so I don’t think it’ll be an issue.
I don’t like our blue and pink shirt they look like should of been blue and red but the red faded in the wash
Hi Geoff.. I’m not that keen either. It looks pink to me also, but the description online says light orange. We’ll be wearing it on Saturday – might look better then!!
Scott I agree in selling the players Arteta does not want cheap why keep them, it’s a win win for all as the player gets a second chance with another club and we can get them of our books after all we don’t need bench warmers. This will give us a chance at buying or leasing another player with the option of buying next season or promote another young player.
Having, maybe, signed his last big contract let’s hope Aubameyang doesn’t lose his enthusiasm for the game and scoring goals. A wet, February night in Stoke may not be to the taste of a player with a guaranteed £54.6 million to come whether he plays or sits before a blazing log fire in his mansion.
Lucky we’re not going to Stoke then, Cicero 😂😂
Hi Sue at least it makes the white and red shirt look good
Carabao Cup Semi-Final Sue?
Stoke will get that far??!! Nah!! 😉
Crown paint trophy perhaps Sue, or tiddlywinks 😂
Anyone know how you become a Covid Secure Marshal?………………..my jailer…..sorry , wife, says they get £30k per year!
I`d do it for nothing if I could patrol N17 on my horse!………………………tasering Spudvids would be a joy, even if they were social distancing and in a crowd of less than 6!
😂😂 Rico 👍
😂😂 Le Coq!!
The Martinez to Villa rumours gathering pace again.
Yeah I saw that, Rico… some saying personal terms have been agreed….
Arteta is now First Team Manager.
Arsenal are supposedly set to announce Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension tomorrow. #AFC
Arteta now Arsenal first team Manager
Not coach.
What is the point of selling Martinez and then spending a big chunk on another goalkeeper?
Just source a veteran goalkeeper whose on a free and who is happy to be No.2 and spend the Martinez dough on Partey…
I see that the club have announced that Arteta has been given the new role of team manager and will have more input on transfers, loans and that kind of stuff.
Hey Rick, any truth in the rumour that Ballard is off to Blackpool on loan?
Shame Sue but if he’s not prepared to fight Leno for the number one shirt then I guess the club have to move on. Seems really odd though.
I guess Raul was the “coach” kind of guy but here is England, clubs usually use the term manager.
Or keep Macey Kev, maybe that’s what the clubs thinking is.
Congratulations to Arteta on his promotion from Head Coach to Manager. Let’s hope that among his new responsibilities he will still find time to fulfil his primary task that of coaching the first team.
Why not Rico, I guess it depends on how good they think he can be?
I suppose none of us thought how good Martinez could be until Leno was injured and none of us equally know how good a Macey could eventually be?
I think he wants to leave to get regular football Rico, but if Arteta gives him most of the cup games then why not have him as No.2 and get a new No.2 next summer.
Morning All,
I’m really looking forward to the season. I expect Arsenal fans will break the Internet if we don’t beat Fulham or West Ham though.
I’m a little surprised the club are willing to sell Martinez, I hope they at least get a good fee, with a sell on clause. And the talk is we’re going to buy the Brentford keeper for £10-12m – makes no sense.
At least tomorrow’s game is on at a good time for our Australian fans!
COYG
Morning all.
If we need to sell a keeper to generate funds, and one is making demands, then he’s the one to sell imo
If, if, if, admittedly.
Still, sales must be made and we can only sell those players wanted by other clubs.
Martinez could well be a sacrifice, so to speak, that must be made to strengthen other areas.
If he goes and we can get Partey, then really, the club is better off overall so we can’t really argue, imo.
Limey, we get a few good kick off times early and late each season.
Plenty of horror ones in between though hahahaha
Hey Scott,
I wonder if Ozil might be on the bench tomorrow ?
More chance of him starting against Leicester in the League Cup I guess. Also maybe Guendouzi too,in his case might help to put him in the shop window.
I’ve got no idea how if the we will see Ozil this season mate.
No doubt some games will suit him, but I doubt Arteta will play him in the physically tougher games.
Maybe Cup ties will suit, and hopefully he can teach the younger guys something.
Indeed Kev, at his height he should get to most shots and crosses. 😜
Hector to Barca? Good or bad if a deal is done. The Metro reckon a Barca player might come our way. Messi perhaps. 😆
Hi Rico it depends on who Barca is willing to swap for Hector but I would prefer cash as for Martinez he is ready for the number one position however Arteta preference is for Leno So I don’t blame him for wanting out let’s face it we can promote our under 23 keeper to the senior team and bring hein from the under 18 to the under 23
Hi Geoff, time will tell on both. For now it’s all speculation surely?
New post up now
Good to see you back Limey…
