Potential signing on show tonight & Struggling to find something positive about Arsenal…..

Morning Gooners,

Today’s gossip page first.

Arsenal are understood to have made tentative contact over a possible deal for Derby’s 17 year old midfielder, Will Hughes and has already received a glowing report from chief scout Steve Rowley! Hughes is set to play for England under 21’s this evening in a friendly against Northern Ireland.

Also on show this week will be Wilfried Zaha. He’s been called up for England and should be involved for England in a friendly against Sweden. Unless a deal has already been done, we won’t be signing him after Palace valued their played at £20 Million!! Pfff

Onto today’s post:

With Christmas just round the corner, it’s made me think of those little glass things filled with water, you know what I mean – they have a nice Christmas scene inside and when you shake them a snow storm begins. It’s lovely to watch.

Well, Wenger, his coaches and players are like the Christmas scene, only Wenger is protected by the board of directors rather than the glass and unlike the nice snowy scene, the one they portray is looking quite awful.

Wenger talks as if we are not watching the team play. He talks rubbish. Before we play he tells us how well the players have trained, how hard they have worked and its only a matter of time that Arsenals talent’s will raise its head and start to perform to the standards we would all like to see.

Well I for one am struggling to find a good word to say about our team, realistically, I struggle to say a good word in favour of the club right now and I feel like we are being robbed blind by high-priced tickets to watch such poor performances.

No pressure seems to be on Wenger to get results and I wonder at times why qualifying for Champions League is so important when we all realise that we will never win it. Lets face it we can hardly get a result against some of the average sides in the Premier League, so I don’t know why we expect us to beat top sides from other leagues around Europe.

Regardless of what fixture we are playing, I would field the strongest side available if I was Wenger as our supporters deserve nothing less. Our travelling fans are magnificent, they turn up in all weathers, sing their hearts out and spend whatever it costs to watch the team of they love. I have noticed that the travelling fans are on the increase and I suspect a lot of them do not bother with the home games, after all, why give money to a club who will not invest in a better squad?

Whatever we are playing for, the players have to battle from beginning to end and 100% is the level of commitment needed. If players need a rest then get enough goals in a game first and then they can get it by being subbed and if that doesn’t materialise then tough, players have to give their all until the game is over. Then they rest.

Make those loyal fans in attendance glad to have turned up to support the club and let them go home knowing that every player gave their all. !

For £40,000 a week, I would work my socks off and then go home to rest.

Our players have no excuse to be as bad as they are right now, they have fantastic facilities, they are well paid and with a bit more effort they could all play for their country. But the most important thing is to be as good as you can be for your club first and if you cannot make a commitment like that then maybe they should go home now and stay there!

Supporters have hearts, they watch a player and as long as they give their all they will speak well of them, give up and they will have them down as a quitter and they will never forget that.

This weekend we host our most bitter of rivals and it’s no time to be thinking about having a bad game. Players can become heroes or villains very easily during this fixture. If our lot can’t get themselves up for this one, supporters will call for heads to roll as losing to arch rivals is a big no no!

Whether players are a seasoned pro or a newcomer, they lose this one and they will definitely not be forgotten!

No glass vessel will save them……

Why does wenger make it a habit to lie… His recent comments have been worse than the shambolic performance we put up week in week out. It is like being in a torture chamber for us LOYAL fans. Anyway am glad to be back on HH after a long holiday.

  2. Lee says:

Moaning all… not too much fun being an Arsenal supporter of late! AW has January window to purchase the players needed, will the stubborn one do it?

  3. Bendtnersgone says:

    Morning all.
JW, if Steve is bitter as you say, that doesn’t make him wrong. In fact I agree with most of that post and quite frankly I don’t feel particularly warmly towards the people running the show either. You can ‘t help how you feel.

  4. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning JW & JWJeff, Sorry to sound down mates but with the filth coming up we need a performance Spuds can play some nice football but i would hate to be on the end of a spuds supporters jibes come the eekend, We had what i thought would be a good outfit this season but what with our new ways defending and players in strange positions injuries for the same few and players ho have taken a long time to come back from long term injuries, Players not knowing whether they want to stay or go and watching some of our stars leave after just a short time of playing well has just built up on me a bit. seeing Van Persie score for fun with that mob up north has not helped but we’ll get there just not as quick as i’de hoped thats all.

  5. tsGH says:

    Good morning all…

I can feel your pain Sir Steve in this post but I have to disagree on a few of your comments particularly field the strongest side available for each match. Apart from that I agree things are not going well but we have to make sure we do not go over board. 😉

  6. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Ginger, Maybe your right bruv but it gets a bit heavy watching us give 2 goal leads up i have watched some very poor matches this season and when i look at the talent we have find it hard to take. I know that we have not started that well but we normally claw back in the second part of the season but i was just hoping for that little bit more effort thats all

  7. JW says:

    Bendtnersgone,

I didn’t say Steve was wrong in what he said, I too agree with a lot of it.

I don’t want to see Wenger spending whatever money we have available on yet more promising youngsters. Some wonderkid from Derby and an untried and unproven winger from Palace. The priority is a left back who can defend and maybe a class ‘keeper who can instill some confidence in the back-four. If there must be a striker Ballotelli’s available. 🙂

  8. bondex says:

Good post Steve….wish I had something positive to say about arsenal too… that’s hard to find nowadays ….something positive for me….ITS MY BIRTHDAY TODAY YIPEEEE….. 😀

  9. JW says:

    Steve,

He maybe could do better in goal than some of the so called ‘keepers we have had since David Seaman retired.:D

  10. Bendtnersgone says:

JW, a left back and DM would be my choice but as you say, with experience. I’m very tired of being sold tomorrow.

    Morning Gooners.
    Morning Rico.

Sir Steve, another one from the heart mate…
    Great work as per usual…

I share your pain mate, it’s bloody difficult staying positive.
Tbh, everyone at the club already know our limitations, and qualifying for the Champions League is the extent of the clubs ambitions.

Winning it is a pipe dream.

I haven’t gone into a season since Wenger got us into it, with any realistic hopes of winning it.
Arsenal’s record in Europe is shit. End of…

But the EPL is another matter…

    Gotta go out.
    Lata

  12. Bradster says:

    Hey all,
I feel pissed at Wenger for the obvious short comings that only he couldn’t/wouldn’t see.
How many free keepers were available besides Cesar and would’ve been happy to be a number 2? Beginning of the season Fab, almunia and Mannone were supposed to be sold according to reports.
Relying on injury prone players hoping for a wonder work like RVP. He’s a rare case, they’re more like hoping on Owen, Hargreaves, King, Woodgate or Kewell playing a full season.
Another is that players are played out of position and whining where they want to play.
If we played players where they want to play, they’ll all be attacking and in the middle.

  13. stevepalmer1 says:

Sorry just had a bath, Many happy returns Bondex that at least has brought a smile to my face have a good one mate.
Thank you Sir AK very nice of you you old smoothy 🙂

  14. stevepalmer1 says:

Listen, this is a question for you younger Gooners who are still able to kick a ball, can any of you explain to me if the modern day premier football is that much different than balls of old, as strikers seem to be struggling to kick a ball straight and low. My experience is with old lace up or the ball with a little hole in that were supposed to be rounder. The lace up needed to be taken home and dubinned which we took in turns but when the newer ball came in they had a plastic coating which made them water proof whats the score with the latest ball and why can’t proffesional footballers of the highest quality get a ball on target from 15 yards out.

  15. tsGH says:

Happy birthday Bondex. Guess what my bday is on the day of the NLD and it could go either way. Last year we beat Norwich 2-1 around my birthday so I am staying cautiously optimistic.

    COYGsss

  16. tsGH says:

On the Zaha signing I am against it purely because I see him as a younger Yao Gerv. I will personally prefer Tom Ince as he has something different we lack in our squad. Most importantly he is going to be cheaper than Zaha due to the ignorant media loving he is receiving until he chooses to play for Ivory Coast and then the backlash will begin.Tom looks like a real playmaker and has a bit of his dads fiery attitude to match.

  17. Bradster says:

From what I’ve experienced Steve is it feels lighter. So the more power you put into it the more it moves. Like kicking a beach ball.
I saw a post that Man U were interested in Ince for the Jan window.

  18. potter says:

Strangely Totts at home will be my 65th birthday , so it looks like either great celebrations or doom and despondancy for a few of us. I never like this one and I travel with hope rather than confidence
Bradster , I sometimes think that Wenger looks at a player and thinks “” you are very good at what you do, how can I change you to fit the pattern that I want to play “”. The more I watch , the more tactical ineptness I seem to see.

  19. devilgunner says:

Good Morning my Esteemed Gunner Conspirators.

Sir Steve………you are right. And I do like your style because it is always from the heart. And as a true AFC supporter.

I am lucky. My birthday always fall around cup finals. And tbh every time AFC win something in May its an added present for me.

And to cap it all I was born on the best day of the year which many mummies wish it to be………on Mother’s day.

  20. tsGH says:

Sir Steve, i know it is very uncomfortable for all of us. Imagine living in between 2 neighbours who support the chavs and the scum. That is the pain I go through almost every weekend when I see my neighbours.

The fact is Arsenal have issues from the top down to the newest fan/supporter. My reason for making that statement ais mainly due to this example:- lets compare the Ox and CJ25 contract situation to Welbeck’s.

At Arsenal those two youngster have received 2 pay increments in under 2 seasons whilst welbeck has done more on the field abut was lucky to have his pay go up from £8k p/w to £35k p/w recently.

Our youngsters are all on £10k to £20k already so where is the hunger coming from? We go on about deadwoods but every club has deadwoods too. No manager has a 100% success with purchases.

Even maureenho has one of the worst transfer successes but he has had rich owners to sweep it under the carpet. these are some of Mareenho’s signings in 2005. Aug Michael Essien Lyon £24.4m
July Shaun Wright-Phillips Manchester City £21m
July Lassana Diarra Le Havre £1m
July Scott Sinclair Bristol Rovers £160,000
June Asier Del Horno Athletic Bilbao £8m
Jan Jiri Jarosik CSKA Moscow £4.83m
    July Ricardo Carvalho Porto £19.85m
    July Didier Drogba Marseille £24m
    July Tiago Benfica £8m
July Mateja Kezman PSV Eindhoven £5m
    July Paulo Ferreira Porto £13.2m
July Arjen Robben PSV Eindhoven £12m

    and in 2006

    2006

    Aug Ashley Cole Arsenal £5m
    Aug Khalid Boulahrouz Hamburg £7m
June John Mikel Obi Lyn £16m
May Ben Sahar Hapoel Tev Aviv £320,000
May Andrei Shevchenko AC Milan £30.8m
    May Salomon Kalou Feyenoord £8m
May Michael Ballack Bayern Munich Free

How many of those were successful? I will say less than half of his signings were good. Peps signings are even worse, the only thing I can say is that those two managers are very lucky to have inherited very good squads with the teams they have managed.

And remember like ‘arry, every team Maurenho hascoached has had financial troubles after they have left.

So those saying lets get Pep or Maurenrenho, remember all that glitters is not gold.

  21. rico says:

    Morning all..

Good Post Steve and I totally get why you feel so down hearted. Not sure I totally agree re the ‘playing the strongest’ each game.

I’d field a second string in the CL, as for me that is the least important 😉

Seriously, I’d rotate, but only 2/3 at a time, not vast changes as we see for the FA and Cap1 cup often.

Sides who have a very deep squad can do that, we can’t as players are either not good enough, not old enough or not fit enough 😉

    Many Happy Returns Bondex….

  22. devilgunner says:

Thanks for the thanks bondex. 😉

I have always said it and will continue to say it forever and ever AMEN.

Its the EPL I care about. Not the CL. but the EFFING FECKING CLOODY EPL. That should be the club’s aim.

I dreamt of seeing the team win the double. IT was answered.
I dreamt of seeing the team go a whole season unbeaten. My Pa told me to dream on. IT was answered on a postcard.
The last wish I have?? To see AFC win the EPL five times in a row. YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT====FIVE SEASONS IN A ROW.

That is what I wish for. Of course if a tin or pot gets thrown in between that is a bonus. But the league is what I want. It is the hallmark of a great team……….at least at home.

The CL??? Its a lottery determined by the top brass.

  23. Bradster says:

I agree totally ts that we reward youth too quickly and too highly. Theo wouldn’t ask 100k now at 23 if we didn’t start him high on his arrival. I also blame the English hype and Sven for building an expectation with him without kicking a football.
I suspect we will have the same problem with Ox and Wilshere in the next few years that they’ll out grow our wage budget at 22-23.

One thing on Chelsea is that I’m not sure all players bought was up to Maurinho, I especially think of Shevchenko with my case in point.

  24. rico says:

I blame Sven too Bradster and Wenger for allowing it to happen.

Once he went with England he thought he’d made it, maybe his head to a bit too big for his boots and his attitude towards improving was all a bit to laid back…

Hopefully Oxlade-Chamberlain won’t go the same way, his father should be keeping his feet firmly on the ground…

  25. allezkev says:

Many Happy Returns Bondex….. 21 again????

    It works for me…. 😉

Ginge/Potter Many Happy Returns for Saturday…

Apparantly Wath is 75yrs old, this year….

    Well maybe that’s the impression i get…. 😀

  26. stevepalmer1 says:

Yes good points Ginge, If i speak the truth i have never held those managers in high esteme despite their successes. Rich owners have a way of giving Managers a faulse sense of security they are given more money than they need, they offer top dollar for mediocre players just to get them to sign. I know i moan about Wenger signings but he will not enter bidding wars with anybody but i feel he should with certain players. He has stated in the past that he will only bring in players he feels will improve us but there have been times we have been linked with top quality and he has let them slip the net. but at the end of the day e are not top of the league and we are at present playing a boring style of football how can you not find players to improve us. Its my belief that you start to build a team from the back when you have that sorted you sort out the playmakers and the workhorses then you look for finishers who will score goals if they get the service also strikers that can make things happen out of nothing that takes talent of the highest degree. Although i dont like to sing the praises of other teams with the spuds game coming up we have to watch Bale as he has the talent to hurt us bad he is a player that makes the impossible posible if we don’t keep an eye on him he could punnish us big time. and we don’t want that with all the birthdays we have. 🙂

Arsenal spied on four of the Football League’s most promising stars on Saturday.

Liam Trotter, Charlie Austin, Will Hughes and Wilfried Zaha – a quartet of England’s best emerging talent outside the top-flight – were the subject of Arsenal’s attentions last weekend.

Influential chief scout Steve Rowley attended Millwall’s 2-1 win over Derby at the Den to cast his eye over Trotter and Hughes

Gunners spies have kept close tabs on Lions’ box-to-box midfielder Trotter from the start of last season, with his performances this term earning rave reviews.

Rams midfielder Hughes, 17, has been hailed as a future England international and has made 15 starts for Nigel Clough’s side this season as well as breaking into Stuart Pearce’s Under-21 set-up.

Meanwhile, a senior Gunners spy ran the rule over Burnley goal-machine Charlie Austin in the Clarets’ 2-1 defeat against Ipswich.

  35. devilgunner says:

Now that is very interesting Kev. Maybe we will end up having a british spine after all. I like the look of Austin. He seems to be a goal machine everywhere he played.

Trotter is the same height as Diaby. So he could be an asset in the middle. HOWEVER………he was injured a bit too often. Anything new there????

Zaha and Hughes are still young but both have great potential.

Swedish trialists all the Raage as U18s struggle for consistency
Posted by Jeorge Bird on November 13, 2012 in Uncategorized
Given that it is an international week, London Colney is a particularly quiet place . There will be some fresh faces present in the youth set-up, however, with the club having invited two Swedish youngsters for trials at the training ground.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Kristoffer Olsson, who was signed following a successful trial stint of his own in 2011 and has gone on to become a regular for the club at U21 level, are Jamaal Raage, a striker, and defender Hampus Dahlquist.

Raage previously had a trial with Manchester United, and is currently contracted to Brommapojkarna, whilst Dahlquist is with IFK Goteburg, and will arrive next week having initially been scheduled to be assessed in the summer.

Meanwhile, Arsenal U18s are still searching for their first win under new coach Steve Gatting having gone down 2-0 away to West Ham United at the weekend.

Arsenal created several opportunities but also allowed their opponents to get into the game, with a rare mistake from Jon Toral leading to one of the conceded goals. Anthony Jeffrey impressed again on the left flank, whilst Jack Jebb also came close to finding the net, but the young Gunners will be hoping for a better outcome when they face Norwich City at the weekend.
