Another Arsenal team close to a trophy…

Morning all.

What a ten days it’s been in the red and white side of north London. It started with Mikel Arteta celebrating his 41st birthday which we now know took place back in Spain with his family. Five days later, I’m sure every Arsenal fan remembered, David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle, who died far too early in life 22 years ago. Then of course the first team battered Leeds Utd 4-1, the women beat Man City 2-1 as both sides of the club continue to chase a League winning season.

I suspect we all had a little smile when Aston Villa beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, when Man Utd were beaten by Newcastle and then again when Everton scored really late in the game to nick two points off of our neighbours on Monday night. Last nig

Also, the FA handed Aleksandar Mitrovic an eight match ban after he shoved referee Chris Kavanagh during Fulham’s defeat to Man Utd in the FA Cup last month. Well, it was three for the red card, three for violent conduct and an additional two for “improper, abusive, insulting and threatening” language. Excessive? Perhaps the tables could be turned so that players/managers/clubs could dish out bans to referees when they make shocking decisions on a match day, like letting certain players get away with violent conduct towards another player. Isn’t stamping on someone violent? Or constantly kicking someone on purpose just to stop them? Just a thought..

In between all of that of course was two managerial casualties, three if one adds in Conte. Klopp would probably have been sacked by now had he not been as successful during his time at Liverpool. As he said himself, it’s probably the only reason he’s still in his seat. Exactly the same reason Arsene Wenger stayed in his seat as long as he did, plus securing Champions League football for as long as he did. Klopp needs a rebuild which is going to pretty tricky if Liverpool finish outside of the top four this season. Still, his concern, not mine.

I watched some of the Chelsea v Liverpool game last night and thought it was pretty poor. 0-0 was a fair result as neither team deserved to walk away with all the points but I’m not stupid enough to not realise that if either or both have a good day when we play them, it’s going to be tough to get a result. Especially Liverpool at Anfield as let’s not forget that just a few weeks ago, they absolutely battered Man Utd 7-0. Chelsea have a squad full of talent so if by some miracle they all click, unlikely as that might be right now, they’re not to be taken lightly. No opposition can be taken lightly and I’m pretty sure Mikel Arteta knows that better than anyone.

Lastly, what a great evening it was for Arsenal’s under 18’s who defeated Man City 2-1 to book their place in the FA Youth Cup Final. City we’re playing with ten men for much of the game and extra time was needed to secure the victory but I doubt Jack Wilshere or any of his players care about that. Jack was thrilled:

Overall we dominated and we deserved it. I’m so glad we won it the way we did. It was special and that’s why everyone loves football, there’s no better feeling.

There is, go and beat either West Ham or Southampton in the final….

    Morning Rico and all,
well written Rico, it sure has been a good couple of weeks for the club,
A little bit early but happy Easter all,

Hi All, yeah great read Rico thank you.
Isn’t it nice that EVENTUALLY people are talking about Kane and his diving antics. Only years too late though.

There seems to be a great vibe going through the whole club.
Lets go to Anfield and do a job for Rocky!

In seasons gone by I would have been happy if we got a point at Anfield now, however, I think we are in with a shout for all three. Watching their match against Chelsea they seemed like a team in disarray. Players arguing between themselves and showing a lack of confidence, with the manager looking on in bewilderment.

If we play our usual game with pace and precision I believe we can get a win.

Unless we get something at Liverpool, Newcastle or Man City, my bonkers prediction is we come second in the league, one point behind City.
