Another Alexis Award. Big Game For Arsenal, Big Game For Anthony Taylor!

Morning all.

But He Needs A Rest!
But He Needs A Rest!

Alexis Sanchez was November’s Barclays Player Of The Month. Surprised? No, me neither. Arsene Wenger has said he close to running on empty so I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him on the bench today. No problem, bring in Joel Campbell or Lukas Podolski, that’s why they are in the squad.

I detest Stoke, I detest Mark Hughes. The Britannia Stadium is one of the worst places to go to and Ryan Shawcross has stoked the fire ahead of our 3pm fixture:

The fans dislike Arsenal so it’s going to be a tasty game. Hopefully the atmosphere will be buzzing and we can get three points.

The feeling is mutual!!

Steven N’zonzi has joined in too:

We know Arsenal play good football but it gets harder for them when you start kicking them a little bit. They don’t like it but we’ll keep doing it.

I hope Anthony Taylor has read the comments, especially those from N’zonzi as it’s clear what Stoke’s game plan is and always has been! Taylor needs to be at the top of his game and not let bad/late tackles going unpunished.

Stoke have several fitness concerns ahead of kick-off. Jonathan Walters, Glenn Whelan, Steven Ireland and Robert Huth are all doubts and Steve Sidwell, Peter Odemwingie, Victor Moses and Dionatan Teixeira will all be missing through injury.

Nacho Monreal misses out for us and Tomas Rosicky, Laurent Koscielny and Yaya Sanogo face late fitness tests. Wojciech Szczesny should be back in contention to start but how does he walk straight back into the side when Martinez has played so well? If it ain’t broken Arsene, don’t fix it.

Head-to-head

  • This is the 100th meeting between the clubs in all competitions. Arsenal lead by 52 wins to Stoke’s 24, with 23 draws.
  • Stoke have only lost one of their last eight home games against Arsenal in all competitions, and are unbeaten in four league meetings at the Britannia Stadium since a 3-1 defeat in February 2010.

Our record up there is not good is it and it’s about time we changed that. They are on a dreadful run of form in front of their own fans and we must take advantage of that. As I said yesterday, it’s time certain players rolled up their sleeves and put a lot more effort on the pitch and there’s no better time to start than against a side who will no doubt be out to play dirty.

It’s a big game for us today. It’s an even bigger one for Anthony Taylor!

I hope we aren’t left talking about him at 5pm!

COYRRG’s….

    Morning All

Morning Rico, it’s sunny, cold and crisp in London Town…

As far as Stoke are concerned, we know what they’re all about. We gotta stop worrying about them, all the worrying in the World won’t change anything. We just gotta focus on doing a job on those scumbags and keeping a clean sheet…

Another 1-0 to the Arsenal would be nice.

    Good post Rico…

  2. Steven Kelly says:

Fancy a 2-0 win for us today. I’d go with Welbeck and Giroud. Drop Carzola (too much aggression in the Stoke team and I’ve still not seen him win a tackle this year as great as he is with the ball) also If you believe the papers and overseas talk Sami Khedria and Artuo Vidal are on there way to Arsenal. Khedria is a free at the end of season and Vidal would cost £42 Mill both reluctant to sign new contracts with their respective clubs and both looking to join their best mates at Arsenal. With Arteta and Flamini contracts up in the summer and Diaby never fit it looks like it could be a realistic prospect. What a team we would have.

  3. allezkev says:

Vidal and Khadira, now that is a nice thought, but more fantasy football than reality…
All the same Steven, I hope your right

  4. Wavy says:

Morning all, and a bright and sunny one it is too. Jack’s still all over my lawn though, time he got up and got off!
Today, a bore draw I reckon, but we are long overdue for a good performance there. I’d settle for 1-0 to the Arsenal, although more than that would better, plus a clean sheet!

  5. goonster says:

Hahahah khedira and vidal to arsenal? Yeah right and I am the count of Monte Cristo. Why would they come here when they could earning more and winning trophies elsewhere. I ll believe it when arsene teaches defense 😀 morning all.

  6. Adam says:

Anthony Taylor, the Charles Hawtrey of referees? I detect the stench of the slimy, amphibious hand of Mike Riley in this. No doubt fuelled by roubles.

  7. goonster says:

Adam am done worrying about refs we ll never win that battle. They all hate us. The lads should just go out there and protect each other. Hopefully no broken bones or dismembered parts.

  8. Adam says:

No Stan. The land of Stoke is entirely too reptilian for me. Lots of people with odd shaped heads scraping their knuckles on the way to McDonalds or KFC while chain smoking 100 cigarettes a day. The spittle that drawls down their faces and onto their shell suits settles on their tattoos in rivulets of stickiness that they feed on after the pubs close.

  9. Wavy says:

Goonie, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to thump the ex pottery makers! In fact it’s a day for Scott’s hero, Ramsey to score a hat trick! It would be timely and sweet revenge for the incident of 2010!

  10. goonster says:

Hahahahaha adam you have a way with words. Wavy poetic justice. I wish ramsey could have a stormer against the inbred scums. I ll take a rambo hatrick too brudder.

  11. Adam says:

Up there Stan, I will take whatever we can along with all limbs remaining intact. A vain hope though when playing. Mark Hughes team.

  12. goonster says:

Its going to be a tough game adam. If we can hold them off till late in the second half I think we stand a chance. Kozzer is back which means the defense ll be better organized. My problem is who stops nzonzi from bullying our midget mid fielders?

  13. goonster says:

He was has never been decent adam. That tall prick is as worse as it gets. Even during his Blackburn days. I think he has it in for us because arsene overlooked him.

  14. Luznic says:

been a long time I commented here…….Morning Rico, Adam, Stan, Wavy and Granpa Kev, playing SRUFC has never been easy and today wont be different, I know I wont enjoy the game today at least stoke never see it as entertainment so next thing we know they will be bringing an armored tank and an AK47 to the field because Arsenal like entertainment but they love war……..foolish comment from Nzonzi I always knew his dangling figure had nothing to offer upstairs……………Anthony Taylor that bald fool who awarded Aston villa two penalties and a red to Koscielny last year………….Lord save us we are in trouble……Stan can you just please do something

  15. Luznic says:

Thanks Rico, Highbury house has always been a part of my day but commenting was not easy but will try to comment more from now……hope you are getting in the mood of the season

  16. allezkev says:

Hi Luz, yeah it’s gonna be a fraught afternoon, but Wenger and his players have just gotta ‘man up’ and get on with it.

Taylor ain’t gonna help us, he’s as near a fraud as you could ever meet among referees…

Ferguson would be highlighting the referee endlessly, leading up to this game, heaping attention onto his performance…

I have no idea why Wenger doesn’t do likewise?
Naive, stupid, you’d have to ask Arsene why?

Or maybe we should ask that fat Pillock Hill-Wood why they sacked David Dein, and in one fail swoop lost any influence at the FA.

    Yeah, smart move that..,

  17. allezkev says:

    Has he Rico…?

Hmm, maybe he’s tried to play it down, we don’t want our players focusing too much on what Stoke will do, as they’ll do what they always do, kick anything in an Arsenal shirt…

  18. potter says:

It is a common held theory that it’s because Wenger did highlight the shortcomings of Riley, Webb ,Durkin and Poll that we are in the position that we are. Getting rid of Dein was political.PHW thought he was screwed when Dein bought shares from him.

  19. allezkev says:

If that theory is true Potter, then Wenger has nothing to lose as we’re getting shafted every week as it is…

  20. rico says:

I read something about it in the Mirror Kev…

Trouble is, anything he says will be considered him just moaning yet on this occasion he’s right, Stoke need to play football and not make stupid comments about not liking a kick…

  21. allezkev says:

That’s the point Rico, he’s gonna be called a whinger anyway, so he might as well whinge…

The more he highlights the double standards, the more chance we’ll have of it being highlighted on Sky & MotD, they can’t ignore his comments forever and eventually it would have to be discussed.

  22. Joaquim Moreira says:

    the line-up
Arsenal: Martinez, Bellerin, Chambers, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Flamini, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis, Cazorla e Giroud
Subs: Szczesny, Koscielny, Ajayi, Maitland-Niles, Campbell, Podolski, Welbeck

  23. Judge me in May says:

Defence all over the place.. Midfield don’t exist and lethargic attack upfront .. All recipe for football disaster..

  24. Judge me in May says:

Rico he does need early changes or some kick up their asses at half time.. Or may be both..
Giroud looked like he was up to no good the night before..
Ramsey is struggling.. and so is flams and cazorla..
    The BFG is embarrassing really
    3/0 now

  25. potter says:

Im laughing Goonie. Its so bad its funny. Shawcross won this game with his comments early this week. Bunch of pussies

  26. BT62 Gooner says:

Goonie can’t laugh with you mate, sick watching the same old shit for years……..

    Out footballed by The Orgs……lol

  27. rico says:

Judge – the change Wenger needs to make is him, to not be able to out think Hughes is shockingly bad – a side who have been s***e at home all season and we simply roll over for them…

3-0 will be hard to come back from….. It won’t happen either….

  28. rico says:

Goonster, you wouldn’t be if you’d caught an early bus up to Stoke this morning in the cold and were stood watching this shower of s***e in freezing cold temperatures!

  29. goonster says:

Trust me rico I feel for the away fans….I love those bastards but when you have a stubborn old coont for a manager all emotions leave u.

  30. goonster says:

Scotty oz who takes the blame when the ship goes down? It’s all wenger’s fault. I ll keep blaming him. Even if we had 10 messis we won’t win fuck all with this geezer in charge.

  31. allezkev says:

    Stan Kroenke won’t be bothered…

As long as Arsenal progress in the CL, and there’s more spare cash for him to milk, then it’s Happy Days in Colorado….

    Mediocre Owner = mediocre franchise…

  32. goonster says:

Hahahah scotty oz let’s not do this…..please. I ll never absolve him of any blame. He lost all respects a long time ago.

  33. goonster says:

I ll never forgive him for the 6.3 5.1.6.0. 3.0 and the 8.2 maulings. I ll never forgive him
He could have walked after the fa cup victory but he chose to stay just to piss us off.

  34. scottfromoz says:

Bradster, I can’t remember saying it did.
All I said was two sitters missed……….I’ve asked elsewhere, and am still waiting to hear how Wenger is at fault for those.
I blame Wenger, but unlike plenty, I also blame the players.

  35. allezkev says:

To be 3-0 down at Stoke at half-time is simply unacceptable….

Even if we’d somehow done an Anderlecht that first 45 minutes is still symptomatic of Wengers coaching or lack of it….

    He’s a busted flush, finished imo…

  36. allezkev says:

A draw would have simply papered over the cracks….

You watch us go to Istanbul and get stuffed by the worst team in the Group.

  37. rico says:

Scott, like you, the players need to take some blame but yes, so does Arsene Wenger as you say…

Chambers shoving again then, we said that would cause us problems a while back…

  38. scottfromoz says:

Though we missed two sitters, we didn’t deserve a thing out of this game, as the first 45 minutes were an out and out disgrace.
Changes at the club are required from top to bottom, and anyone thinking merely changing manager will solve the problems is mistaken, IMO.
I’ve never been one for replacing managers mid season, mid contract even, and I’ll go half way here,……..unless a miracle occurs, Wenger should go at seasons end.
The squad is too pretty……all show and not enough go.
That was a terrible display against an ordinary side, yet they out played us totally for 45 minutes.
    Dismal.

  39. BT62 Gooner says:

Kev, AW has said in the past the word ‘unacceptable’ is a word he doesn’t think applies to football….lol

  40. goonster says:

Scotty oz changing manager mid season might actually be what we need to kick start our season and back to where we belong. He’s so stale. He’s out of ideas. Rambo sani sanchez are no mugs. The team us a reflection of its manager. Like I said 10 messis won’t change a thing. He needs to go. End of.

  41. goonster says:

How many big clubs go down 3.0 to a mid table team?? How top teams have suffered the amount of humiliation we ve suffered lately? How many top teams change their captains every season. The fairy tale had been over for a decade. We just didn’t see it. We ve been living a nightmare for a while now. Wenger out.

  42. scottfromoz says:

Stan, I believe a contract is a contract mate, that’s all.
Forgetting this actual situation, I hate the fact contracts mean nothing.
Wenger should have gone after the cup final.

  43. bradster says:

I think the mind games got to our players. Psych them out that it’s going to be a sit back, defend and kick us.
Instead the pressed and pushed ball. Kept their shape and attacked our flanks. Like someone studied our weaknesses.

  44. goonster says:

How many.managers have lost so many finals like wenger….uefa cup vs Galatasaray, fa cup vs loserpoop carling cup vs the chavs and lowly Birmingham. How many more scott?? How many??

  45. Judge me in May says:

Chambers is obviously exhausted playing every single minute left right and centre.. The kid needs a break..which is impossible because Wenger failed to strengthen the defense in the summer yet again..
All too predictable and well expected outcome..
We knew we would make it hard on ourselves and get fuck all from the PGMOL Mafia..
Still one man to blame and his name is Wenger..

  46. bradster says:

I don’t mind that stance Scott but poor performers should be fired. Our board see him making money so he’s not doing a poor job according to them.

  47. scottfromoz says:

And again Stan, I put the situation aside for my own reasons.
If you prefer world where contracts mean shit so be it.
    Each to their own.
Bradster, I have always laughed at boards sacking coaches/managers, especially soon after a contract has been signed.
How can a man be the RIGHT man, then a few months later not be?
Of course, maybe he wasn’t the right man at the time the contract was signed, but who really is at fault?
The board is, but they’d hardly sack themselves for making a shit decision, so sack the manager and show the world NOT that they’d made a mistake, but that they were taking the club forward.
Look at Spurs……how many times does a board get things wrong before they lose their gig?
Anyway Wenger will not be managing us next season, I reckon.
I’m not sure when it will happen though.
On that note, Sean has a game in a few hours, so off to sleep for a little kip,
    Later guys.
    We are shit 🙂

  48. frednerk says:

How can anybody blame the players,
Not sure how much experience go’s with some of the comments.
Stoke City one of the teams we always have trouble against away,
How on this earth can wenger put two teenagers in the back four,
plus on top of that we have our third choice keeper in.
The first goal was down to inexperience..so who’s to blame for that.
Wenger’s going on about how great the team .done to day,
he also says the defence was to blame.
The mans deluded…how sad is that.

  49. goonster says:

We are not shit scott….Wenger is. This same team ll take a beating under a pragmatic manager. We are not far off. A beastly dm a cb and we are almost there but no ooo arteta is the way foreward and poor old nacho monreal is the cb. What a coont.

  50. allezkev says:

BT, I really don’t pay any attention to the spin that Wenger comes out with anymore, I’ve been listening to his litany of excuses for the best part of 8 years….

But BT, the problem is Kroenke…

Kroenke is the cancer gnawing away at the heart of the club…

    Mediocrity is his watchword…

Arsenal will stagnate as long as he is the Owner…

  51. goonster says:

Hahahahah just read this on amother forum “let’s behead wenger and rape his daughter publicly” he went on for a while I can’t post that here. Rico ll bin me. That’s just how frustrated some fans are right now. Hahahahahah behead wenger he says. Oh lord what arsene ll make some fans do.

  52. allezkev says:

Stan, I gotta say that I would be concerned about the sanity of someone saying that they want to behead Wenger….

    It’s only football ffs… 🙄

  53. allezkev says:

Brad, Arsene has a whole host of excuses.

He’s had 8 years of experience, spinning his way out of one calamity after another.

  54. allezkev says:

You know, there was a time, in the recent past, when Arsenal at least played decent football. That kinda softened the blows as the team gradually declined from the ‘top table’…

But now, and with the notable exception of Sanchez, in general, Arsenals football is moribund…

  55. bradster says:

I do agree with the part of catch 22 where Giroud usually plays well against these kind of sides and Wellbeck needed a rest. It didn’t work out in that sense but the rest was bullshit.

  56. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
Frednerk; if you can explain why Wenger is to blame for Giroud heading wise from point blank range, Sanchez hitting the post when wide open, Mertesacker standing still when Bojan made his run to score, players that are unable to hit a target with a pass from 10 yards then I’d be very interested to hear it, as my obvious lack of football experience doesn’t allow me to see the truth.
Of course, i want a decent response, worth of your experience and not just an easy one like Wenger should motivate them, Wenger should change tactics blah blah blah because they have nothing to do with basic schoolboy errors being made by professional footballers, so let’s have it, please, as I’m always willing to learn.

  57. scottfromoz says:

    Beheading Wenger?
    Raping his daughter?
Shit we have some classy fans.
You sure it wasn’t a Stoke supporting infiltrator 🙂

  58. rico says:

Scott, if our fans are saying such things then they are gutter!!!

We are all cheesed of but wishing such things on Arsene Wenger and his family is the lowest of the low…..

  59. rico says:

One other I will say. Reports suggest that there was serious unrest between Arsenal fans outside the ground today.

I can understand the frustration and anger with all that is going on but let’s not bring that here. Arsenal FC are better than that, we are better than that too….

    Respect guys and girls, respect….

If Kroenke had any, he’d sell to the big fella…..

  60. potter says:

Looks like it’s going to get worse before it gets better and anyone fooling themselves that just removing Wenger is going to be the answer is just not thinking things through. I believe that wholesale change needs to sweep through the club . If Wenger is to have a lifeline then his replacement should be sought now , he needs to be told that this is his last contract and replacements both in his seat and that of his coaches need to be be put in place now.
Scott :- Sanchez hitting the post was unfortunate , the angle was getting narrower all the time and I am prepared to give him the benefit. Giroud/ Welbeck in fact all of them need to be taught that the way to score is to burst the net . That’s coaching , the defence and midfield not following their man is coaching also . Seriously I believe that the place is run like a holiday resort where relaxation is the watchword. They all need to be more ruthless and that is down to the mindset given by the manager and his coaching staff.

  61. scottfromoz says:

Rico/Potter, I guarantee you, I hold Wenger responsible for plenty, but as is always the case, when I point things out that are NOT Wengers doing, I am an AKB.
Mertesacker standing still as a player runs past him for a near tap in??
Who could anyone suggest that is the managers fault?
    Giroud MUST nail that header…..
Potter, I agree Sanchez’s chance was not a complete sitter, but a player or his quality should always find the net with it.
The fact we had to play 2 x 19 year olds in defence is on Wenger, and that’s without question.
The fact we don’t have a midfield destroyer is on Wenger.
Let’s just blame him when he is at fault, and not as soon as anything goes wrong.
    Our players were woeful.
Should we sell some players in January, buy some defenders and then give some kids a run?
    Wipe the season.
Test the kids out and see if they are Arsenal quality or not.

  62. rico says:

    Scott, you an AKB? Never…

Always said that players need to take their portion of the blame when they make schoolboy errors.

Potter, agree – there’s more wrong at the club than just Arsene Wenger…

  63. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. I think that Arsene is at the heart of the club and all it’s doings. For me that makes him ultimately responsible for the current debacle. Yes, he has been allowed far, far too much power, but that is because the board and the owner are not footballing people. So, as soon as it all goes wrong as it is now, there is no real accountability and that is what we are seeing. The players, or should I say, the team, were awful yesterday. It happens regularly these days. But, as has been said a million times before, who is going to question Wenger about it? Who is going to spell out to him that what is happening is completely unacceptable? Gazidis cares but has been hamstrung by Kroenke’s love and commitment to Wenger. The culture inside the club and the lack of any notable plan is down to only one man. Change him and you change the culture at Arsenal completely. The only question is who you offer the job to, whether he accepts it and how far you back him. The candidates list is short but things are getting serious now and there is more pain to come.

  64. Adam says:

Hey Scott. We’ve been treading water for some time mate. Yesterday is what happens when there is no plan and no accountability. Still, life goes on. 🙂

  65. rico says:

He’s the owner Adam, he’s the one who has the power to intervene but he doesn’t seem to give a toss as long as we get top 4…

He’s the one who would have sanctioned the new contract for Arsene Wenger…

  66. Adam says:

Scott. We need one of the World’s best managers at Arsenal unless we want to get caught in a sequence of new managers every season. Arsenal is one of the top half dozen jobs in the world. Kroenke just needs to pick the right man and give him the right tools. Easier said than done though. 🙂

  67. rico says:

Kroenke wouldn’t have a clue who is the best manager for the job though would he?

Right now he clearly thinks it’s Arsene Wenger….

  68. Adam says:

Rico. The only way he could intervene is by giving Wenger the sack. He also sanctioned the purchase of Ozil and Sanchez for about £77 million and pays Wenger a fortune to do the business. If he is guilty of anything, it is that he has let matters slip. We don’t really know how deep his involvement is, but we see what Wenger is doing every time the team plays and we hear his demented rambles at press conferences every week. Obviously I don’t like Kroenke but, with the same backing and personal wages, I so believe that another manager could be doing better than Wenger is at the moment. The game has evolved and passed him by.
It’s the sheer boring predictability of it all that gets to me.

  69. Adam says:

Rico. But Kroenke wouldn’t need to know that. That is what he pays Gazidis a fortune for. There are only a half dozen real candidates. It’s whether he has the balls to move the club forward that is concerning. What happens for the rest of the season and then after that?

  70. scottfromoz says:

Adam, that’s why is want Hiddink (or the like) for a season with Dennis as understudy.
It puts a gap between them, and a great manager would get things sorted….Dennis would learn a hell of a lot, IMO.

  71. Adam says:

Scott. Who the new manager should be is a whole other debate. We have so many problems at the moment that start at the top and run down through to individual team players, to say nothing of the tactical side of things that the scope of that debate gets wider with every poor performance.

  72. rico says:

I appreciate that Kroenke wouldn’t be the one to choose a new manager Adam but I guess all the time he thinks Wenger is the right man, a new manager just remains a hope for all fans…

And that’s why I blame Kroenke, he’s just letting the club drift along as it is…

  73. potter says:

50/50 there Scott, Personally I would go for the Ajax model and offer it to Frank de Boer with Bergkamp as assistant. Proven players with style that are cutting their teeth in a lower league that seem to have formed a good partnership . Of course they would bring a fresh look at the club and probably Ronald Frank’s brother Ronald and Overmars back to the fold but with. two ex players that know the club it ticks a lot of boxes.

  74. rico says:

Because he’s happy with Arsene Wenger is my thought Adam…

Still, he might change his mind when we don’t get top four this season….

  75. Adam says:

I doubt that Kroenke will do anything mid season Rico. The best thing would be for Wenger to decide to leave at the end of the season and take that decision away from Kroenke.
We all have our thoughts re managers.
    Morning Kev.

  76. Adam says:

Scott. A ‘push’ can mean a lot of things mate. But generally, no. I think that to see where his head is at you really only need to listen. His recent incessant stuff about the team he could have signed and the players he just missed out on and of course his promise that we will win the PL title within his current tenure are, to me, worrying signs that he cannot pull this one back, this time as he has done so many times before.

  77. Adam says:

    It’s damp here too Kev.
If that’s the case Rico then the fan base will rip themselves asunder by that time. I can’t see it going on that long myself but it could do I suppose.
I think that at times like this, it is easy to default to cynical mode. I know the sequence of events I would like to see unfold but I doubt that will happen. In so many ways, these latter years under Wenger have diluted the club’s true character beneath the sheer size of his personality. It will take a while to find that again. What are Arsenal under Kroenke all about?

  78. frednerk says:

    Morning All,
    Scott,
Bojan goal..he ran from midfield, not picked up by Ramsey or Flamini,
Putting the BFG on his left foot,is like putting concrete,
in a pair of wellington boots and asking him to chase theo walcott,
    down the road,
Who do blame for that scott, the team or wenger or the syrup.
So you think if we score four and win 4-3 thats good defending,
all strikers miss chances all defenders miss tackles,
the art of defending is experience, reading and timing,
    most good forwards,over 90 minutes
    will skin an inexperieced defender..Fact
The first part of any team training session is defending Why?
Because its easier to teach, the attacking side of the game is very technical,
    and not my area,
so I get pissed off when we concede schoolboy goals,
because once that happens plan A is out the window,
wrecking me brain to try an think what top four team would go three down,
    against stoke,
Yer didn’t take long……………….. Wengers Arsenal.

What ever level you want to talk about scott,
ask rico for my email address and maybe I can show you on a training pitch.

  79. rico says:

I sure hope something happens before his contract is up. Maybe he’ll shock us all in January and sign a proper Cdm and Defender and we’ll push up the table and catch Chelsea…. 😉
