An Arsenal first.

Morning all.

I’m glad Arsenal aren’t selling Nuno because I think he’ll turn out to be a good player. Now we know why the Marseille man was in London I guess. Wages covered in full, no clause to buy within the contract and with a bit of luck, he’ll play regular football before returning to Arsenal as a better player. It’s a good move for all concerned in my opinion.

It seems there could be a bit of a tussle between Leicester City and Fulham for Bernd Leno. The back pages reckon Arsenal have agreed an £8 million fee with the west London club, however, with City now in need of a keeper, Leno might just have a change of heart. If he and his family prefer to remain in London, I guess he’ll opt for Fulham but if staying in the Premier League for more than one season is the most important thing for him, he might be better off moving to City. If he does move up north and Youri Tielemans isn’t part of a deal, I think we can assume Tielemans isn’t going to become an Arsenal player this summer.

A second string of players lost to Brentford in a friendly a couple of days ago. Eddie Nketiah played and scored but Brentford scored two. The team looked like this.

Arsenal: Turner, Cedric, Walters (Awe 46), Holding, Tavares (Souza 76), Elneny, Lokonga, Maitland-Niles (Patino 85), Marquinhos, Nelson (Sagoe Jr 90), Nketiah.

Just as we shouldn’t read too much into the pre-season victories, I don’t think we should read too much into the defeat. It might be that this game was only about minutes for players who needed it and who might be called upon early in the season. For others though, a loan or permanent move away from the club could be around the corner.

Our third kit has been launched and I absolutely love it. Not sure Takehiro Tomiyasu feels the same going by the look on his face but pink over the black kit every day of the week for me. What’s the story behind pink?

The kit, which is the first pink outfield jersey in our history, will be worn on-pitch for the first time in our opening Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Friday, 4 August, and sees the return of the Ermine pattern, an icon first seen on the Arsenal crest in the late 1940s, which also displayed the club’s motto; “Victoria Concordia Crescit” or “Victory Through Harmony” – a phrase which is still adopted and used by Arsenal to this day. Lastly, the sad news of Terry Neill’s passing broke yesterday. He was involved with Arsenal for twenty years as a player first and foremost and then manager. It’s sad but none of can go on forever. Terry Neill had one blip in his long footballing career and that was back in the 70’s. Still, he didn’t stay down the road for too long as when Arsenal came calling, he replaced Bertie Mee in the dugout. My thoughts are with those he’s left behind and May our ex player and manager rest in peace.

See you in the comments.

Having seen the facial expressions of Martinelli , Smith-Rowe, Odegaard and Tomi wearing the kit , there might well be a bit of competition for the bench wearing a tracksuit top.
There is a lot to be said for image at kick off as the teams line up and face each other and I am not sure that Pink is as intimidating as the black second kit.
I know it’s all about marketing and inclusivity but even the colour looks like the sleeves of my old 1970’s shirt when my mother washed it .
Still it is what it is ! Tavares off then , he needs playing time and despite all the media squit about Marseille trying to undermine Saliba they didn’t do a bad job with him so perhaps we have found a reliable outlet for loaning and that if they prove themselves they will get time on the pitch.

Met Terry Neill in his bar in Holborn years ago. A genuinely lovely bloke. Always seemed to have time for a chat. RIP

I can’t see us wearing the pink kit all that often, not many clubs wear black. At least not if my memory serves me right.

Perhaps the Saliba stuff was just the media adding 2+2 and making 5, with Tavares being their only target. After all, why would Arsenal do business with a club if that club was trying dirty tactics.

On a second reading, I can see your point Rico.

I see that our former ‘keeper Jens Lehman has not given up his old nickname “Mad Jens”, he has been caught on cctv using a chain saw to demolish the roof of his neighbour’s garage. Jens bought his luxury villa on Lake Starnberg near Munich for €5 million and is claiming that five feet of the neighbouring garage is on his land. German police are investigating.

According to .com we are wearing it against Palace .First test for it then.
Strangely all the photoshoot pictures show long trousers but the kits for sale have black/dark navy shorts.

The footballer who was arrested for rape has had one case against him dropped and his bail extended until October. Can’t be a cut and dry case then..

Time to don my suit and dark tie for the fourth time since the first lockdown for another funeral. That’s one relative and three friends. None of them died of Covid.

    Morning Rico and all
Call me old fashion but that pink shirt looks like a ladies top,
The team picked against Brentford makes sense to me it was a win win for both the players and for Arteta to see who are ready to take the next step up and why take the chance on getting the more senior players injured.

  9. rico says:

    Sorry to hear that Cicero.

Hi Geoff. Playing that group of players made sense to me. We have Sevilla tomorrow in the EC.

  10. Obi says:

Good Morning All. Rico, the rape case against the footballer is getting complicated because of bad decisions by the footballer. The supposed fiancé has dropped the case.; but allegedly, the other two is on-going because of extortion by one of the females and a possible pay-off to another. The footballer’s lawyer had warn him to stay away from both but he was still was communicating with them. Smh.

  11. rico says:

I don’t believe anything written in the media Obi. Or social media which was full of rubbish yesterday. If these victims were really traumatised by the alleged incident, she/they wouldn’t imo, be talking about it to the press or chatting Online imo because it could jeopardise any police investigation.

Trial by media is a dangerous thing.
