Morning all.
My car had to go in for a fault to be investigated this morning but thankfully, I have a loan car for the day. Or longer depending on what the problem turns out to be. Anyway, Hendy in Bournemouth have given me a 2025 version of the car I already have and now I want a new one. I’m sure that’s why they do it, to get people like me sucked in. Well, it won’t work, not this time. Or will it….. Lol
Arsenal have this morning announced that current Managing Director, Richard Garlick will become our Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.
Richard joined Arsenal in 2021 as Director of Football Operations and has been at the club’s helm for the last year in his role as Managing Director, leading the club’s Executive Team. Along with this change comes evolution to our Board of Directors, led by Co-Chairs, Stan and Josh Kroenke. After five years with Arsenal, Tim Lewis steps down from the Board and has left the club. Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s (KSE) Kelly Blaha and Otto Maly will join our Board as Non-Executive Directors alongside long-time KSE advisor, Dave Steiner. They will bring the KSE family closer together and offer a wide range of expertise to strengthen Arsenal.
Producer and director, Ben Winston, a season ticket holder at the club for over 30 years, will also join the Board as a Non-Executive Director. This group will combine with our long-serving Director, Lord Harris of Peckham, to bring diverse experience and knowledge from across finance, sport, retail, property development, media and entertainment to support the club moving forward.
Co-Chair, Josh Kroenke said:
We are delighted to promote Rich to CEO after an incredibly successful period as Managing Director of Arsenal. Rich has made an enormous impact on all fronts as we continue to strive to win major trophies, be financially sustainable and put our supporters at the heart of everything.
At this moment, we would like to thank Tim for his continued dedication and commitment to Arsenal in a period of transformational change for the club. He has played a pivotal role and ensured we are in a great position to continue to deliver our strategy in our ambition to win major trophies.
In keeping with our desire to always move forward, we will strengthen our Board with some exciting additions who will bring vast experience to the club across a wide range of professions. The group know and love Arsenal, and will bring a different skillset and expertise while injecting fresh thinking and energy to support us all to achieve our ambitions.
Well, I wasn’t expecting Tim Lewis to leave that’s for sure, but according to James McNicholas of The Athletic, he has brusque manner which meant he was not universally popular, inside and outside Arsenal. Articulate and widely respected, he could also be abrasive.
Would I be surprised to see him join Vinai Venkatesham at Totts? Absolutely not. After all, when it comes to spending money wisely, apparently Lewis is very good at it.
Catch up in the comments.
Morning Rico and all.
onle a few years back the fans wanted a change, then Kroenke gave Josh more power / say, then things started to change, First Wenger, then the players that were upsetting everyone and know a change / switch around in the board can’t do any harm unless they know nothing about running a football club, however saying that my main concern is what happens on the field.
Morning Geoff.
Without knowing why, I find it strange that Lewis has stepped down. Perhaps it’s for reasons we’ll never be privy too.
Old red nose changed his right hand many often and to this day, I think that’s why he kept on winning.
Good day Rico, can’t say I know much about the upper reaches of the Arsenal hierarchy but I’m fairly sure that after some of Silent Stan’s earlier appointments bit him in the arse he is much more careful to do his due diligence before making taking on new personnel.
There is little downside to introducing new blood to the board, if the the right people are brought in.
Disappointment today as our long awaited hot-air balloon flight due to take off around 4pm has been cancelled due to adverse wind conditions. The flight was intended as a birthday treat for my wife. She has waited patiently since Febuary 7th for the flight as several earlier options were unavailable at the time.
Good Afternoon rico and all
Multiple changes at boardroom level at any business can be regarded as discerning and up until fairly recently neither of the Kroenkes have been hands on but it definitely appears that Josh is now taking much more interest .
I wish David Dein would have stayed a lot longer as whatever you think of him he always wanted the best for Arsenal.
Right up until he sold out to the Russian oligarch. Kelsey.
Go on Rico, you want that car, you know you do, and you deserve it Rico, I can see you now, the wind in your hair, speeding along the M3, in your new car. 😉
Afternoon all, garden chores today, but it’s warm and sunny, Luv it.
Apparently Otto Maly played a key role in the So Fi stadium project therefore with a lot of chat recently concerning the potential expansion of Ashburton Grove maybe his inclusion on the Board is part of that?
Kelly Blaha is into raising capital which of course is quite key to any redevelopment and maybe Steiner will be more persuasive when it comes to schmoozing with Islington Council than say Tim Lewis?
I’m sure that Arsenal could sell 80,000 tickets.
80,000 tickets, that’s a long way from the 14,000 who turned up with me to watch Arsenal play Sheffield United back in the mid 70’s
Afternoon Cicero, Kelsey, Kev.
I’m the same re the board, no idea what most of them do. 😜
Trust me Kev, it’s tempting. Hard top only though. 😜
I thought the local council put a limit to capacity from day one otherwise the stadium would have been bigger when first built .
Not read/heard that before..
Are we going to see the return of Saliba on.Sunday or will Arteta go with. mosquera?
Good question, if 100% fit, I reckon Saliba.
It’s the 100% that concerns me, Rico.
