A Stroll in the Park, Simples!

We have a treat today, a match summary from Allezkev who was at The Emirates last night…

We lined up:

Fabianski, Yennaris, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Miquel, Frimpong, Coquelin, Benayoun, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arshavin and Park.

Substitutes:

Mannone, Meade, Boateng, Ozyakup, Aneke, Ryo, Watt

We appeared to start out 4 4 1 1, although at times it was 4 5 1.

Arshavin played through the middle, Young was superb, constantly moving, making runs & making himself available.

The first half was fairly uneventful, Adam Bogdan made a couple of saves & Fabianski was forced to made a good stop.

Bolton put out quite a strong side and most of the first half was an evenly fought contest.

Vermaelen came close from a free kick, Arshavin looked as if he was going to chip it over the wall but instead slid a short pass to Verm who unloaded a thunderbolt that Bogdan did well to push away.

Bolton went for it from the restart and caught us but after they scored the game seemed to open up. We quickly equalised and soon after got a second. Boltons fragile confidence sagged, they had a good go at us but their finishing was terrible.

Young came close with two efforts, a dribble across the face of goal followed by a rasping shot from 20 yds that Bogdan palmed over and late in the game he again found himself in front of goal but seemed to slip as he turned and shot. It nearly crept in but Bogdan again saved.

A lot of fans would have gone last night, to see what all the fuss was about Oxlade~Chamberlain. Maybe he suffered a bit from all the hype and high expectations but it wasn’t his night.

He did some really good things and you can see his quality but it didn’t fall for him as a couple of chances went begging. He was a whisker away but he’ll have other nights when he’s the hero. He looked frustrated when he came off, so you can see he’s desperate to succeed. He still has a lot to learn but he’s a fantastic player and he’s at the right club to learn properly.

Park Chu Young announced himself to the Arsenal fans with a superb 90 min display. Despite being dwarfed by Knight & Cahill, he competed and won his fair share of high balls and as the game went on you could see him improving & growing in confidence. He always made himself available, was constantly making runs and angles for a pass.

He could have scored twice in the first half, a rasping 20 yard drive that Bogdan palmed around the post and an opportunist turn and shot in the area that Bogdan grabbed by the post.

A goal hanger..? A goal poacher..? His goal was class a goal scorers goal..!

Our Goals:

Arshavin gained possession on the edge of the Bolton box. Looked to go on a mazy run but just made a bit of space for himself and seemed to pass the ball diagonally across the face of goal and between the Bolton defenders and into the far corner of the net with Bogdan left stranded. It looked simple, or ‘simples’, but the execution was superb.

Park Chu Young scored a real strikers goal. Arshavin again gained possession, advanced on the Bolton penalty area and waited until Park, to his left, began his run and just sent a slide rule pass that Park ran onto. Park opened up his body and just bent his shot around & across Bogdan and the ground exploded. I think he is going to be a very useful weapon in the weeks & months ahead.

Katkuta was giving us problems but Miquel and Benny were doubling up on him and just about keeping him quiet.

Fabianski was a mixture of good stops & flaps. Overall he did ok, but I don’t want him near the 1st team. He will always be a goalkeeping enigma.

Yennaris had a very solid 90 mins. Tackled well, didn’t waste a pass and did enough to show that he has 1st team potential.

Miquel was a surprise at left~back but he did very well against a dangerous opponent in Kakuta. Benayoun often dropped back to support him [Theo take note] and together they nullified the danger.

Squillaci picked up a brainless yellow card, a foul on the halfway line with the Bolton player going away from the Arsenal goal but fortunately after that he got his head in gear and had a reasonable game. Just keep him away from the 1st team.

Vermaelen was the big selection surprise but he was superb for his 83 mins.

Besides his first half exocet he just went about his business with the minimum of fuss. He went off to a standing ovation, a job well done and a 1st team place at Stamford Bridge a near certainty.

Frimpong & Coquelin again showed their huge potential, they anchored the midfield despite some tasty Bolton challenges.
Both have different styles but both have complimentary assets that give our midfield that mixture of robustness and delicate technique. Chasing and harrying one moment, moving the ball around with precision the next.

Benayoun had a good solid game, buzzing around, always available, using the ball intelligently, helping out his team mates. Benny is a valuable member of the squad. Reliability is his middle name.

We had the full set from Arshavin, one minute we’d be pulling our hair out at another lazy misdirected pass, the next  we’d be dancing in the moonlight at his skill, vision and ability. We’d be moping around after giving away possession, next the axis in a sublime passing movement. He was behind everything good in this performance.

But that’s our meerkat..!

Other substitutions:

Ryo came on for Oxo, to a big cheer. He went on a couple of buccaneering runs that promise an exciting future. He gets you out of your seat that’s for sure and once this rough diamond has been polished he’ll be a dangerous weapon in our armoury. On one occasion he battled with a much bigger Bolton player and somehow came away with the ball, blasting off towards the Bolton goal. I think he is gonna be a big favourite of the fans in no time.

Ozyakup came on for Frimpong. He was neat, tidy and moved the ball intelligently, another with a lot more to offer.

Boateng came on for Verm & played out the remaining 7+4 mins without mishap.

Some of the passing & movement in the 2 nd half was top-notch. The defending at times was harem scarem but THIS IS Arsenal.

Some of the Benny, Arshavin, Park combinations in the 2nd half were of the highest level as Bolton were pulled all over the place.

Bolton did have opportunities and when Verm went off I did fear a late headed equaliser as they threw the kitchen sink at us but their finishing is terrible, at times, Hackney Marshes standard luckily.

Now for a home draw in the 5th Round. Palace would be nice.  🙂

    Morning all guys and chicks.

Good Win yesterday. Shows we do have strength in depth

Seems as if TV05 got injured again…..this time with a calf strain. That is nothing. It is just tightness of the muscle due to lack of activity in the past year and a quarter. So the muscle needs to get back to its normal activity. He will be short for the game vs the chavs but might be a contender for the next game.

A good reason for AW not to rush TV05 immediately and have healthy competition for places. Suddenly for the defence we seem to have 3 players for every position

Right Back……Sagna, Jenkinson, Djourou. (Yennaris is solid but still very raw)
    Left Back……..Santos, Gibbs, Miguel.
Centrebacks…Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Djourou, Squillaci, Miguel. ~(Boateng good but still very raw.)

If that is a crisis then I am really in crisis.

  2. rico says:

Cracking post AK, straight from the game 🙂

Wonder why he’s kept Park back, sounds like he had a great game…

  3. devilgunner says:

……just to continue with the above……

Can you imagine AK with a pointed hat, a dark cloak and a cauldron??? “Harem Scarem corpus mutilatem”

Just a short reminder that Halloween is quite around the corner.

  4. devilgunner says:

Its better to introduce him slowly Rico. and be satisfied.

We were all happy about yesterday. Park should be on the bench vs the Chavs and if one of Theo oir Gervinho is not performing than put him on to remind them that we have someone who can take their place. PArk is not ready yet but he will be if he is introduced slowly

  5. TT says:

    Morning all

Good write up kev. I listened to the game on Arsenal Player and watched it aferwards. Yennaris was very good and so was Park. I was a bit disappointed with Ox and Le Coq but hey they are still young and lack the experience. AA played well in the hole but as soon as RvP plays AA will be pushed out on the wing, I would play him there though with Park up front when RvP needs breathers.

Miquel did well to and so did pong most of the time though he had a couple of iffy moments, I can’t blame him for the goal as he was sold short with the pass from Le Coq. Squillacy was ok but he scares me….always have the feeling he is going to fuck up!

As for the Chelsea game I would keep the central pairing of Mert and Kozzer. I know Vermalien did well last night but he is only coming back so lets wait one or two weeks until he starts games ahead of either of the two.

Ryo will be one hell of a player in a year or two, he is a much better prospect at the moment than Ox IMO, just needs to bulk up a bit and get more game time.

  6. devilgunner says:

    Ahhhhh just this morning????

AK knows me better. I used to be like that every day

I just love winding him up. And the best thing is…….he smiles, grins and shakes his head. He knows how to take a joke, ol’ Kev.

  7. devilgunner says:

And for heaven’s sake it will be better if we play like yesterday…4-4-1-1 It suits us better and keeps the team spread out not narrow

  8. devilgunner says:

The thing is that with 4-4-1-1 I feel that our team is more equipped to play centrally and spread out wide when needed. But with a 4-3-3 it does not do so. The goal by Park was scored because we were playing with him in the lone forward role and he went on the left side because Benayoun was not up there stuck on the wing. Haad Benayoun been there Park would not have made that run. Andrey was in the hole behind him and when he went on the central run Park opened up on the left (Henry trademark run) which allowed Arshavin to draw 3 yes THREE defenders (DB10 style) and leaving the left side unmarked and right side another possible alternative even though there were two bolton players.

4-3-3 makes us predictable. 4-4-1-1 does not…….it leaves the other team guessing.

  9. rico says:

Morning TT – agree re TV, let him come back slowly and let’s not split a central pairing that doing pretty well, however, I just have this feeling that Kos will move to RB and TV will play alongside Merts….

My reason for that is Cole v JD….. Scarey….

  10. allezkev says:

Cheers TT. Tbh i was in the loo & missed Bolton’s goal. When i came out i saw A A’s on the tv…. 🙂

  11. allezkev says:

Morning DG. I see you was Harry Carpinter last night.
Park’s goal was superbly crafted. & executed. He looks a goal scorer. As you say DG one to come on from the bench.

  12. allezkev says:

No DG i saw Park’s goal.
Thought 4 4 1 1 suited the team last night. Didn’t see the mix up for Bolton’s goal but overall our midfield coped well imho.

  13. devilgunner says:

Harry Carpenter???? My speciality isnt boxing mate….I hate that sport (if you can call it a sport). But I did the best I could.

  14. rico says:

Morning AK, good night then?? A Fab write up….

Glad you only went to the loo once, Bolton may have scored again 😉

  15. Gooner Sam says:

Morning Rico, good post AK. The Sun just can’t help themselves can they, don’t tell me a lucky win?! They must be full of spuds!

  16. devilgunner says:

Imagine that. Relieving himself and half the ground shouts “Yeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”. That would be some relief.
    lol

  17. allezkev says:

Rico it didn’t look too serious when Verm went off. He didn’t seem to be limping, just a twinge maybe & taking him off as a precaution..?
Chavs have maybe come too soon for TV5, but a run~out vs Marseilles is on the cards.

  18. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all,
    Yeh great post AK,
No stream links available last night not on the radio, we had The Devil giving us a comentry last nigh and a fine job he did, just a question mark against his fitness for ninety minutes though, but i’m sure his nearest and dearest will get him in shape in case he’s needed in the future, but just to thank him for his efforts.
Been waiting to see these new players AK, as i was hopeing that they would be good signings, going by your report it seems that we won’t be dissapointed, how were the supporters last night hav’nt seen how many turned up and were they in good spirits. sounds like we have a hot one in Ju can park anywhere, do you think he’s a goer one for the future, reading other blogs this morning Suggests that Ryo and the Ox may need untill Christmas before they are ready for the first team whats your view as a man on the spot.

  19. rico says:

Morning Sam, or manure fans, they don’t seem to have reported too much on the derby, if it was us, they’d still be going on about it today….

oh, and they have a heading for Thommy V ‘Crock’ – numpties….

  20. Adam says:

Morning all. Excellent write-up Kev. Fleet Street don’t know what they’ve missed out on there. Nice win and Vermaelen’s injury scare seems not to be too serious. Chelsea next and a chance to see that beautiful man John Terry once again.

  21. devilgunner says:

TV05 has got just tightness of the calf that’s all. It comes from lackof activity for a long period. Its nothing to worry about. All he needs is a rest from game time and be introduced slowly.

His time will come. AT the moment Mertesacker and Koscielny are doing fine.

  22. Adam says:

Rico. Agreed. Man Utd got off quite lightly in the press. If Dzeko was a better finisher it would have been 10-1.

  23. allezkev says:

    Thanks Steve/Sam.
Steve they gave the attendance at 56,000 [i think].
There was a good atmosphere. Half~term so lots of kids. Wenger got a lot of support.

  24. Bendtnersgone says:

    Morning all,

I was a bit worried yesterday about Tommy V playing too much too soon so let’s hope he had a bit of cramp and will be in the matchday squad for the chavs.
Wenger really must start giving Park some EPL game time. The radio guys were very complimentary about him last night and he seems to know where the net is. He has to be above Chamakh who should be on his way in January. For me Park’s development is the most important thing at the moment as we really need to start sharing the goals around a bit more.

  25. devilgunner says:

We need Diaby for the chavs and Terry in particular. lets forget all his misdeeds of the past and just remember this

    ….Diaby’s fines hour. A must SEE…..

Son we will never forget you.

  26. rico says:

Morning Steve, like you i was disapointed not to be able to watch the match in any form, shocking imho….

Thanks to devil though we were kept updated eh 😉

Morning Adam… I wish it had been 10-1…

  27. devilgunner says:

He will play Rico. He is so thick skinned that criticism bounces off like water on a duck’s back. He is also a thick head seeing that he survived a kick from Diaby to come back.

  28. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning ricolicious,
bloody liberty i felt. . but i may have to wait a while before the Ox and Ryo surface again

  29. Adam says:

And besides Villas Boa Constrictor has said that the whole thing is over. Or in other words, Abramovich has made the required payments.

  30. Bendtnersgone says:

Wouldn’t it be nice to see Wenger mix it up just a little bit during the game on Saturday? Maybe give it a hour then bring on Park and drop RVP in behind him. TWO goalscorers on the pitch at the same time. Might just confuse the enemy.

  31. rico says:

I don’t think it will be too long Steve, we’ll draw Citeh at the money bags stadium and SS’s will show it….

Adam, you are prob not too far wrong there…

  32. devilgunner says:

Arsenal centre back Thomas Vermaelen is available for selection for Saturday’s big London derby at Chelsea.

The defender came off with cramp in his calf towards the end of his comeback in last night’s 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Bolton but following a good night’s rest he has reported for training today.

Speaking after the game Thomas said: “It was great to be back and to get time on the pitch. I felt fresh, I’m OK and am available for Saturday.”

  33. rico says:

    That’s good news devil…

Exactly Steve – they are idiots….

Chavs are taking their game tonight seriously, let’s hope for a few more red cards and injuries 😉

  34. TT says:

I hope he plays…..he is not that good and with this over his head he could well be a liability to Chelsea. And he was always over rated in IMHO.

  35. Micko says:

In the loo, thats where all the big knobs hang out !
Good read kev, you were one of the lucky few that got to watch the game last night, hopefully there will be some brief highlights on the box tonight.
Like you I would also like custard palace in the next round, the draw is saturday lunchtime.

  36. goonster says:

Morning guys..great game huh? That’s seven in eight in all competition. Crisis? Pssst what crisis? Now let’s go turn over that shit hole, stamford bridge. COYGs.

  37. devilgunner says:

I just wish we get Crystal Palace home
    PLC vs Shitty

now that would be a dream

but knowing our luck it will be us vs Shitty and PLC vs Palace

  38. goonster says:

We ll probably get manure instead. Knowing the bloody FA they ll be looking for redemption for their darling team….and who better to whupp when you are down and needs confidence? The arsenal!

  39. rico says:

Hi Micko, you been peeping at The Ems 😉

Hi goonster, we are not there yet, but steadily, things are improving…. long may that continue…

  40. devilgunner says:

Oui goonster. But what would happen if we are drawn vs PLC or shitty and win at their own ground???? Strange things have happened and in the end its 11vs11

  41. goonster says:

You think DG….shitty? With silva in that form? I don’t think so my man. That guy scares me shitlees! He’s almost as dangerous as messi. And to believe who could have gotten him for less than 17mil back then. That’s another wenger cock up surely.

  42. TT says:

We wont beat PLC at old toilet devilgunner…..there is no way that ol’ red nose is going to rest Coward Webb again after last Sunday 😉

  43. goonster says:

Hey yo AK so you were at the home of football last night? Lucky. How many drinks did you have with your mates after the game?

  44. goonster says:

Yeah TT I just know he ll be ruing not starting webb. Webb could have gotten them a few penalties and maybe a sending off. And guess who that dick head ll send off? You guessed it….david Silva,

  45. Micko says:

And just maybe park has now gone up in the pecking order as well, half expected chamakh to start last night, he couldn’t have been rested, he hasn’t played much football recently, by all accounts park looked pretty good all round and topped it off with a goal, we might get to start seeing a bit more of him now.

  46. Micko says:

Your probably right goonster but park has shown us he’s prepared to put a shift in and knows where the goal is, deserves a place on the bench saturday, I hate early kick offs.

  47. goonster says:

Hi ya WATH….arshavin seem to be running into some kind of form right now. About time too says I. We need all our big players to step up. With diaby due back in a couple of weeks we can really kick up for that 4th spot. Who knows maybe lift one of the domestic cups. A guy can dream no?

  48. goonster says:

Yeah micko I ll even say we turn the tables on them and start robin and park together. That ll definitely rattle them. My preferred line up will be….chesny JD BFG kozzer santos song arteta gerv arshavin robin and park. We don’t need theo he ll only make cashley look world class and I hate that.

  49. W.A.T.H says:

Hey Stan how’s you fella ? All good I hope, bit bothered about AK hanging around toilets at the ems though………!

  50. Gooner Sam says:

Devilgunner…live the video, couldn’t have happend to a nicer person!

I would be tempted to keep Verm on the bench so it doesn’t break up the partnership of Kos and Mert.

Also could Arsh not play with someone like Arteta in the middle with Song behind as a DM in a 4123 thus leaving Gervinio on the left wing and Walcott on the right?

  51. Gooner Sam says:

Also, anyone ever been ot Tallinn in Estonia? I’m going for my stag do this weekend and I’m a bit nervous……any advice?

  52. T-buzz says:

    Howdy people!
Good win last night and good to see Park can curve them in.
I really hope we get the points against the Chavs as it will be a huge morale booster winning away and against “top4” pretenders!! 🙂

  53. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Hello!
DG, I had watching the goals yesterday at Arsenal group fans from Latin America (Chile,Mexico,Uruguai, colombia…) in Facebook.
So, any more Arsenal news from the moment?

  54. T-buzz says:

    Gooner Sam,
My brother went to Estonia for a mates Stag do and said it was a lovely experience, the locals were very friendly, especially as they were 22 black dudes exploring the sights and enjoying the night life. I cannot remember what part exactly but i remember him saying they went to an African restaurant there and it was great food and drinks…
    Hope that helps….

  55. goonster says:

God WATH am eating here….no toilet near my lunch please. Sheeesh. And AK, dude slow down on them chicken burgers. You are looking mighty round these days.

  56. rico says:

Hi JM, other than TV is fit for Sunday – no news

Tbuzz, I’d love it, just love it if we could beat that lot… 🙂

  57. T-buzz says:

Ricodinho! I am fine thanks melady! How have you been?
Long time indeed, all I get to do these days is just breeze through HH when the systems are working fine in the office! lol

  58. allezkev says:

    Mick, haha, cheers mate.
Stan, i stick to shandy, drink/driving and all.
    Wath, the wanderer returns… 🙂
Writing lessons. Nah mate, comprehensive school me.
I just use Oliver as my template, although Adam wants me to join the NUJ… 🙂
As for lurking in toilets, i was looking for JJ in his spandex.

  59. allezkev says:

So Verm is ok for Sat then Rico! That’s great news boss.
Btw Cahill had a good game. Wonder who he was trying to impress?

  60. allezkev says:

It would be easy to downplay last night’s performance as it was ‘only’ the Carling Cup. But Bolton played a strong side out with a team boasting plenty of EPL experience. And although their confidence is on the floor, we still had to come from behind [ steady now Wath ] and put them away.
Yeah there was some hairy moments but there was a lot more encouraging ones. And the winning/unbeaten run contiues.

  61. rico says:

AK, haven’t seen anything other than the goal, to be honest having a bit of a busy one today but hopefully later i’ll get round to watching some more….

You can only play what’s in front of you, a win is a win and like you say, against a strong line up, it wasn’t Aldershot….

  62. Gooner Sam says:

T-Buzz, cheers for the advice, it soumds like a pretty cool place. Now all I have to worry about is my friends!!

Rico – you have my word 😉

Would love Chaill to come in winter but I don’t think Wenger will he thinks we have enough in Merts, Verm, Kos and JD….oh and squiggle (please Arsene don’t play him ever again…)

My worry is noone will come in Jan as Wenger will get complacent after recent good results…

  63. Joaquim Moreira says:

    gooner,
I’ve beenn there maybe, ten years ago.
Talllin is very nice. It’s a old place with many important buildings. The people is ok. They have many Swedish and Finish influence. It’s like a scandinavian extension

  64. Micko says:

kev,as cupid stunt would say ‘ its all done in the best possible taste’
You can’t beat a bit of toilet humour.
Chelsea should be fun for our away supporters saturday, the last time I was done there was for an fa cup quater final replay a few years back, thierry got pelted with lighters that night, we went on to win 2-1, it was murder afterwards.

  65. Nedox says:

Park will be ahead of Chamack by january as he buggers off for the AFCONS. And thats the way it will stay till Park buggers off for South Korea! And by then little Joel Campbell must have grown big enough! Good times people

  66. Micko says:

TT, i can see ramsey being around for a long time, I know he gets a bit of stick from some of us but I think he’s gonna go on and be a great player for us.

  67. rico says:

    Afternoon guys….

Sam, I don’t think Wenger will buy another CH anymore either, can’t forget we have Miquel and Bartley.. for next season….

I however still believe that Cahill would give us just that little bit more…

We should sell JD and Squiggie….

  68. rico says:

Ramsey – never in a month of Sundays would Wenger sell him, Are these papers working through all our players, only a couple of days ago it was Theo to Juve, and Theo to Barca…. Knobs 😉

  69. Micko says:

Nedox, i agree with you, i said the same thing a little while back, can see joel campbell coming in for park when the time comes, he’s playing 1st team football in france which can only be good for arsenal.

  70. Gooner Sam says:

JM, cheers for that, the place sounds great!

Ramsey would def not go esp after how we all supported him during the shawcr*ss incident and any way Wenger wouldn’t sell him.

How is Joel Campbell doing on loan? I saw a nice assist by him at the start of his loan but not heard anything since..?

  71. rico says:

Welcome Nedox, sorry it was a little late in letting you one, first comments go into moderation…. then I forgot to say hello 🙁

So that begs the question yet again, is Wenger going to sell Chamakh, why was he not in the side last night, it’s not as if he is exhausted 😉

  72. rico says:

I’m heading out for the day guys…

Let’s hope Citeh and the Chavs get battered tonight, red cards and injuries galore… 🙂

    Nighty night….

  73. Joaquim Moreira says:

We need 3 central forwards: Park, RVP and Chamack. If we sell Chamack we must buy another one or Campbell must come early.

  74. goonster says:

Hey JM are you watching the games? Of course you are! So what’s the score? Am particular about the chavs match. Hope ivanovic or luiz gets sent off or probably just get injured.

  75. allezkev says:

Chavs won it in extra~time. But a usefull addad 30 mins they didn’t want. Good for thr Gunners, hopefully.
Blackburn 4~3 Newcastle. Where did we last see that result at Ewood Park grrrr.
We need a big slice of luck in the 5th Rd draw.

  76. devilgunner says:

    Good Morning guys and chicks

So its Arsenal, Manure, Shitty, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Blackburn,Chelsea and Cardiff into the last eight.

That is 6 premier league clubs and 2 non premier. So our best hope is to get Cardiff, Crystal Palace or Blackburn. Get those three and our chances of another semifinal are much greater.

However of the other 5 the only team I think will be a bit unsurmountable is Shitty. Manure, Chavs, Liverpool are not out of reach and if we continue to gel we will surely get a good result.

    My predictions for the draw????

    Arsenal vs Blackburn
    Shitty vs Chavs
    Manure vs Cardiff
    Liverpool vs Crystal Palace.

  77. Nedox says:

Hey mornin guys. Cheers rico! Used to comment on here byuh i took a loooong sabbatical. Back for good though!

Re Joel campbell, yesterday he scored 1 and won a penalty for the other! He has technique and can finish real good!

  78. rico says:

    Morning Guys,

devil – i’d be happy with BB, Cardiff or Palace, but you just know we will draw one of the Mancs….

Good to have you back then Nedox 😉

Just going to put todays up…

Leave your comment.
