A good move involving Ramsey? Wenger drops a classic.

Morning all.

After Reiss Nelson scored another couple of goals yesterday for his on loan club Hoffenheim, the cry’s of ‘get him back’ we’re swiftly written across the internet. Their match had barely finished before the first headline popped up with such a cunning plan. But what’s the point in calling him back? He’s playing first team football in a good German league, he’s learning different things from a young German coach, he’s gaining confidence and enjoying himself by the look of it so surely it’s best to leave him be. The whole point of a loan is exactly what is happening with Nelson. When he returns in the summer he’ll hopefully have had a great experience in a different league and he’ll be a better player for it.

So often in recent years, Arsenal have sent players out on loan. They sit on the bench at best and by the end of the season it’s been a waste of time for both the player and the club. Invariably, that player then ends up somewhere else other than in North London. As Kev suggested yesterday, Hoffenheim seems to be the club to send our players to and perhaps others should follow Nelson’s path when the need arises. Their manager Julian Nagelsmann Is already well respected too, even if he is only 31 years old.

There’s suggestion in the back pages that Arsenal are in the mix for Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno who is out of contract this summer. I’ve no idea if this is true or not but my suspicion is that the link to Arsenal is purely down to Unai Emery who managed the player at Sevilla when they won the Europa League at the end of the 2013/14 season. Liverpool signed him that summer but nowadays he can’t get a game for Klopp’s team. Knowing James Milner is preferable must be a bitter pill to swallow and perhaps for that reason alone, Arsenal should swerve the opportunity to sign him. Even if he is free.

Alberto Moreno Strengths according to Football Stats:

Crossing.
 Strong
Holding on to the ball
 Strong
Passing
 Strong
Key passes
 Strong
Tackling
 Strong

Weaknesses:

Aerial Duels.
 Weak
Would you like to see him at Arsenal?
Staying with out of contract players, Adrien Rabiot is another. Now I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a red and white shirt playing for The Arsenal. Perhaps he and Ramsey fancy a January swap. Or if Mourinho really does want our midfielder as reports suggest, how about a swap with Martial? He too is out of contract next summer and wants out of Utd. So the story goes anyway. I bet he’d jump at the chance to play his football under Emery.
Finally, Arsene Wenger has commented on the Aaron Ramsey situation and says the player is in a ‘strong position.’ Well, we didn’t need Sherlock to tell us that eh. When asked if Arsenal should give him the contract he wants, The Frenchman has been quoted in the Mirror as saying:

We tried that before and it still can happen.I don’t really know what’s happening at Arsenal.

Sure, Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position now and he will use this position. But I don’t know how far Arsenal will go in terms of giving him a huge contract.

These things were once my responsibility, but not anymore. I’m happy about that.

I too am happy that player contracts have nothing to do with him anymore and if he already knew that Ramsey was a money over club player, why on earth didn’t he try and sell him for big money when he could? After all, by his own admission it was his responsibility. I agree that back in the summer he could have been sold too but once that last year of contract looms, a player is rubbing his hands together knowing the cards are well and truly in his hands. Players love it, agents love it too because all they see is pounds shillings and pence. Or Euros, mustn’t forget the Euros.

I hope the club can now get the best deal possible out of this Ramsey situation. Whether that is in monetary terms or player swap deals. Personally, if there is a way we could get either Martial or Rabiot, I’d jump at the chance.

Enjoy your Sunday guys…

Morning, good post Rico, it’s how we dealt with the Sanchez situation so who knows? I still think there’s more twists with Ramsey, maybe a game being played.

What I do know, it’s a boring Football weekend with no Arsenal match. It’s bad enough waiting till Sunday as it is, but another 36 hours. Oh how I’ll love looking at Vardy trudging off if we do beat them well.

I’m sure the Moreno link is pretty baseless, judging by the original article. He could be a decent signing tho. Obviously Emery knows him well, so he’d be the best judge there.

If Ramsey will only sign for mega bucks, then a swap in January would be decent business. I’d have opted for Shaw before he signed his 200k a week deal!!! (No wonder the game is fuktup), but Martial would be more than adequate! Haha.

    Morning Gooners
Good post, yet again Rico, you really are getting the hang of it… 😀
    It’s a beautiful Essex morning…

Rico, what would be the point of bringing Nelson back, even if we could, and sitting him on the bench, at least he’s getting starts in Germany, facing up to top professionals, learning his trade and scoring goals…

Smith Rowe and Nelson seem to be two good reasons for not paying Ramsey £300k per week.

I think that the Moreno story came from a Mirror journalist based in the North West who regularly writes crap. I think he wrote that Moreno would be a good signing because Emery had lost faith in Kolasinac as he was playing AMN in his place at left back, quite how he knew all this is a mystery! What more both AMN and Kolasinac have been injured for the majority of this season so that might explain why Kolasinac wasn’t playing although it doesn’t explain how Emery had used AMN instead when he actually had a broken leg!
I think the journalists name is Maddock, a scribbler who we can all agree knows as much about football transfers as an amoeba…

Martial on a Bosman would be nice though…

Morning Andrew, thanks. Different people at the top though now but I do think that’s the best way to get the right valuation for the player. Saying that, I think Rabiot and Martial are worth more than our Welshman..

  5. Cicero says:

Good morning Rico, I’m all in favour of bringing Reiss Nelson back ….for just long enough to sign a contract extension which will keep him at Arsenal for the next ten years, or until we finally achieve Brexit which, if Prime Minister May has any more to do with it with it will see young Reiss well into his late thirties..

Andrew not so, Arsenal Women are at home to Reading this afternoon and it’s live on BBC Interactive.

  6. rico says:

Dexter, add that Nacho is out of contract too and there’s the sums. These journos really do work hard for their money eh.. lol

    Hi Kev, I’m trying.. lol

I’m with you, suggesting a Nelson return is bonkers imo. He’s doing exactly what many of us hoped he would. Good for him. As you said yesterday, maybe we’ve found the perfect club and manager to send our loan players to. There’s a deal there waiting to be done I reckon. Also, when Emery leaves, maybe Naglesmann will fancy a job in north London.

  7. Cicero says:

Rico, double it! Let’s be more than just “fine for now”.

With Nacho out of contract next summer, and no hint of renewal talks, we could be down to just one left back., Wenger used AMN in that position but in my view that was a waste of the kid’s midfield talent. I think Unai prefers to put players in their best position rather than Wenger’s pot luck selection. Fewer square pegs in round holes. So perhaps there is some truth in the Moreno rumour.

  8. rico says:

I can’t see any player agreeing to such a contract Cicero, not in today’s footballing world..

AMN in midfield for me too, perhaps Emery believes in the players coming through for the left back position. We’ve got a couple haven’t we?

  9. rico says:

No news of any talks with Monreal, or Welbeck is perhaps good news. We didn’t hear about Xhaka or Elneny until after they’d committed to the club. It’s the ones which hit the headlines we need to worry about.

  10. allezkev says:

Rico, we signed a Spanish left back from Barcelona last summer, problem is he’s only a kid, personally I reckon Nacho will stay with us, I’d offer him a two year deal, maybe with an option for a 3rd year. He might be 33 but how often does he miss games through injury?

Kolasinac is in his 2nd season and can still improve under Emery, he has had a lot of time out with injuries, so I’m not writing him off yet. Of course if a quality left back becomes available at a good price or a Guendouzi/Mavropanos type signing, then go for it, there must be a few Bosman type signings around this summer from the big leagues.

  11. Dexter says:

I would definitely give Nacho a new deal. And agree it’s been very quiet, which bodes well for new deals for Monreal and Welbeck.

I’m well chuffed we’ve signed Nelson up and when he comes back in the summer he can realistically push for a spot in the 1st 11.

  12. rico says:

Kev, any idea what’s happening with Bramall? I’m sure there’s another left back too.

Yep, I’d keep Monreal, and bearing in mind emery signed a 34 year old right back, i suspect hell want to keep Monreal too.

  13. Le Coq Monster says:

    Morning all and thanks Rico.

Just twitter twits, Reiss will not come back untill loan is up, think we missed a trick in not sending Eddie there too seeing as he aint starting much for us in cups and the boy is constantly banging them in for Arse and England !.

Another beauty in the countries best place ! 😎

  14. Adam says:

Afternoon Rico. I would think that both Nacho and Danny should be offered new contracts. If he does ok this season perhaps Unai will too.

  15. allezkev says:

Blimey Rico, I forgot all about Bramall…
I haven’t read anything about him this season, he didn’t go out on loan and I’m not sure if he’s even fit or not?
I doubt that he has much of a future at Arsenal tbh, he must be about 22/23, so if you’re not even in the squad by then your chances must be slim.
We still have Carl Jenkinson and he seems to be seeing out his contract before leaving on a free.

  16. allezkev says:

If the noise coming out of the Arsenal Supporters Trust (I think?) is anything to go on, we’ll be making a loss this financial year, so Sven is going to have to earn his corn over the next 18 months or so.

  17. rico says:

    Afternoon Adam.

I think they’ll have been offered contracts, makes little sense to lose them now. Cech is another..

Bramall is an odd one Kev and you’re probably right about him not making it at Arsenal. Still, I suspect his bank account is looking healthier. 😉

Good going for the women Cicero, more in the second half hopefully.

  18. Cicero says:

They do play some lovely football, intricate when time allows but can go direct when necessary.

I used to watch some women’s football but the skill level wasn’t there and the pace was so much slower, but now this Arsenal team have skill and pace in spades.

It’s also better to watch, no diving or faking injury, in today’s game only sixteen fouls between the two teams and no over the top goal celebrations.

The players really seem to enjoy the game too.

  19. allezkev says:

Rico, regarding your 12.52 from yesterday, the only other left backs I can find are Tolaji Bola, who was rumoured to be in with a chance of playing in the League Cup earlier this season, he will be 20 next January.
The other is 18 year old Dominic Thompson who I saw in last seasons FAYC final and seemed a promising player to me, but is obviously too young atm.

Bramall is 23, I’m not sure if he’s played at all this season?
Ah, he’s played one game for the U23’s.
