Morning all.
If reports in The Times are to be believed, Man City are ready to raid Arsenal again, this time for young Hector Bellerin. Not for one minute do I believe there’s much truth in this and if one adds two and two together, it’s quite easy to see where the story comes from. His agent!
Only a couple days ago the back pages were full of how Arsenal were in talks, were going to enter talks, or something similar, with Hector Bellerin over a new deal. This is of course to fend off the likes of Barcelona, Many City and any other club which believes Arsenal are more interested in making money than winning trophies. Actually, that might not be too far from the truth but we are not a selling club any more, we know that because Ivan and Arsene have told us!
So, as talks with both Arsenal and Bellerin’s team take place, if they are of course, the agent, always keen to make an extra few pounds, is doing all he can to ensure his player gets a very big pay rise. And why not, that’s what they are there for and I’m pretty sure that Arsene Wenger and others at the club will know exactly what’s going on with all the media stuff and in any case, not only is Bellerin under contract until 2019, he’s said on more than one occasion that he’s happy at Arsenal, very happy. So City and Barca take take a run and jump. For the time being at least.
Sticking with our young right-back, how poor was his crossing on Sunday? If ever there was a sign of a player being exhausted, that was one. In fact many of the boys looked dead on their legs and the fixtures don’t let up for a while yet. We’ve five to get through before this months over and considering the next two weeks aren’t included, that’s a lot of football to be played.
Still, we have a deeper squad this season, so used wisely, we should be ok…..
Guys, if any of you have something football related you’d like put out there for debate, please just email me. It’s going to be a long and boring two weeks….
Am more of a debater 🙂
Happy Birthday to Rosicky. He’s one of the few who played the game so beautifully. Like him as a man and footballer, may he have many more.
Shame Marshall… 😉
Happy birthday Tomas. Loved him too, robbed by cruel injuries..
Morning. Happy birthday Rosicky, my wife will be pleased to share it with him, as one of her favourites!
It’s a quiet old morning Andrew. Darn international breaks..
Hi Rico and the house
Never forget tommys goal against the scum
What a screamer…
Yes rico, boring two weeks, hard for season to get going with so many breaks. At least it wasn’t after Chelsea performance when we thought we were flying.
Hi Mg.
Certainly is Andrew, there’s another one soon too isn’t there. Really doesn’t help the domestic football campaign at all….
Stuttering start to each season for Internationals and why?
Who knows?
Why don’t they block a 3-4 week period off each year and get the things over and done with?
Something had to be better than this.
Morning all.
50 million?
Pep and Citeh can get stuffed.
Cash isn’t needed, and what will it cost to replace the kid with a player of equal ability?
Nah, we don’t need the money.
Ps…Agent talk, IMO, as most of you said…
Buongiorno Lovelies and Hunkies.
Nice poser Rico…..to sell or not to sell??
imo I would sell. 50mill is not to be scoffed at. He is not the best right back in the world and never will be. Who is the best right back in the world??? no one. when we had Lee Dixon there were far better right backs but I would not change him for anyone else. And when we had Lauren there were surely better right backs but I would not have changed him for anyone else. Likewise Tony Adams.
The thing is…….is Bellerin a good right back?? in the present situation yes he is performing well. But we can sell him and find a right back who can be a better defender and crosses although he might not have the same speed. The two most important things are that he fits in the team as a defender and also that he crosses better.
The world has more than one RB I think
Barca or City will pay Bellerin closer to 100 k pw. Arsenal will have to get closer to that if they want to keep him and If that is the case we will always be top or near the top of the second tier in the PL,not that money guarantees a trophy. When Abramovich came along, most thought Chelsea would win everything for at least a decade. Then City came along, who will be next.I prefer when football was football not a global business.Fan and club get dissent from one another as the years go by.I doubt we will ever see a testamonial again.
Rosicky everyone’s favourite yet just before we bought him he excelled in The Euros (one or two wonder strikes) and was relatively injury free when playing in Germany.
I wouldn’t sell Bellerin. It’s a slippery slope to climb on.
Adam, that’s why we never sold Theo a few years back, and upgraded him, IMO…..we were already in the slope, but selling him would have sent us spiralling.
Devil, it’s about the statement it makes, I think.
Selling him shows we still can be bossed.
Telling him and other clubs he’s staying shows we have control.
Although generalisations are fraught with caveats it seems to me that the team comes first so I would leave football musical chairs to other clubs. The ultra-rich will always be able to afford the best individuals. Whether they have the manager to create a proper team is the point. Having said that, a few game-changers are vital to gain those extra points through the season.
I don’t agree Scott.
selling him will not pass any statement to any club other than to the players themselves. no player is bigger than the club….because if we offer him 100k then he will hold us to ransom. because after a year or two another club will offer him 150k. So AFC will be forced to equal that or better it. And that my friend means the player is holding the club to ransom.
So yes, give him a better contract 100k a year so that the other team would have to pay more than 50 million and then sell him for say 65million. In the meantime buy another younger or similar aged RB, rotate him to give him experience and also integrate him in the team. In that way we would not feel Bellerin’s departure.
Imo the only players who are not expendable atm are….Cech…Kos, Mustafi……Coquelin, Xhaka……Alexis. All the other 5, yes even Ozil can be replaced.
The only setback for the new players would be to expect them to play in the same way as those they replace.
Rosicky
Good player but did nothing for us. We spent a lot money getting him fit which was rare. Check his number of years with us and number of matches played and you will see we should have sold him long ago.
He was a waste of resources like Diaby. Good player though
how old is Bellerin now?
the speed gone quickly…
JM. No drop off in speed from what I have seen.
Devil @ 12:33, 100% on point. Two weeks ago when the story broke that they want him for 40m I posted here that I will sell in a heartbeat relatively for the same reasons you just articulated. And also, one he has not improved since the first year. Two he’s not worth 100k a week. Three, there are several RBs who will improve this team just as much for less. Four he doesn’t read the game well and his vision is poor.
Atleast let us start winning some trophies. To some players money isn’t a big factor as long as they’ll have medals to show after they hang the boots. Be perennial winners and we’ll be keeping our players.
Bellerin is still as fast. See what he did to Pedro.
I wouldn’t sell him either, sends out the wrong message…
As for his speed, doesn’t he want to challenge Bolt over 100 metres?
Afternoon guys…
Good Afternoon Rico and All.
Why should we sell? The money just goes to the BANK for safe keeping. We’re benefiting from his speed and in other areas he’ll improve as time goes on with experience.
Agreed Rico. As a club we must be past that now. If we sell whenever a super rich club flutter their eyelashes at one of our players then that’s looking back to where we were.
Afternoon Ng, exactly. Along with the other £15 million….
Exactly Adam, we need to be up with the rich clubs, not selling to them.
They can have Giroud though…. 😉
As long as we replace him with another big striker Rico. 🙂
🙂 Adam. I’d rather a nippy clinical one… Even if he’s small….
Guys and lasses. I agree with you that keeping Bellerin is important. BUT, I can assure you that out there, there are players who can improve the team and give it different options. Bellerin is not the only right back in the league and if we look at the major leagues and competitions around Europe, none of them have Bellerin. They have won as champions while we won nothing. So while keeping Hector is important we must not loose the whole picture.
Someone said that eventually the money will be put in the bank and I sort of agree with that, however if with Hector’s money we get to buy a 2 RBs and maybe a LB then I think that Bellerin should be sold.
Maybe with the new players we can push forward. Just look at Mustafi……I knew him since Sampdoria days and wanted him at all costs. I knew he would improve us.
Same with other RBs in the world.
Can’t agree there Devil. Bellerin is still young and will only get better and better. Ask yourself why Pep and Barca want him?
Any top top club would….
Dev, what right-backs would you sign to replace Bellerin?
How much do you think they would cost?
And what left-back would you sign?
Again, how much do you reckon he’d cost?
Wenger got lucky with Bellerin, just as he got lucky with Ashley Cole…
Wenger had only just spent big on Debuchy so I’m not sure that Wenger realised how good that Hector would become…
Has Wenger ever spent serious money on a full-back, other than Debuchy?
He signed Lauren as a midfielder, Silvinho wasn’t a lot of dough, Vivas was, well a squad player, Cole was on his way to Crystal Palace…
I reckon that Wenger will look within the club if he needs to replace Hector…
Having said and written all the above I think that Hector Bellerin is a fantastic player and the club should do everything possible to retain him…
If in the end he still wants to leave then depending on price we should only sell to a foreign club,
Otherwise we should look to take a top player from Man City in part-exchange…
Say £40m plus Aguero…
That’s the only kind of deal which should be done imo too Kev, if City want Bellerin, then we’ll have either KdB or Aguero…. and mega money….
Kev and Rico…..we have to be realistic. 50-55million is the price Bellerin will fetch. They will not give us those two so we have to take money. If Barca want Bellerin then yes, I would ask them for Sergi in return plus money.
Kev….here is the list. Take your pick.
Top RB’s (imo) 25 years or under…….
Roberto Sergi (Barca)
Alessandro Florenzi (Roma)
Serge Aurier (PSG)
Fabinho Tavarez (Monaco)
Mattia De Sciglio (Milan)
Mario Gaspar (Villareal)
Elseid Hysaj (Napoli)
Johnny Castro (Celta)
Erik Durm (Dormund)
Cancelo Joao (Oly Mars)
Ricardo Pereira (Porto)
Weiser Mitchell (Hertha)
Djibril Sidibe (Monaco)
Tete Kenny (PSV)
at the end of the day if e wants to leave he will leave.
if he expresses the desire to leave, then I would give him a contract, get in another RB from the above, integrate him in the team and then sell Bellerin.
I would give him a contract simply to raise the fee.
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2016/10/04/28157662/why-marco-reus-would-be-the-perfect-signing-for-arsenal?ICID=HP_BN_1
Bellerin as others have said is tied up for quite a while and at his age can only improve.Furthermore there is a shortage of good RB’s in the PL or in Europe that are available.Having said that most Spaniards eventually get homesick and I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple of seasons we do sell him.Kroenke would sell him at the right price.
How much is a player worth to a club? We do everything in a strange way.We often overpay some players hoping they will come good.Is Walcott worth 140K a week, would he get that at another club based on his 10/11 year record with us, not two good games here and there.
But he doesn’t want to leave does he Devil?
Think the Reus ship has long sailed Kelsey…..
Prob not re Theo but I guess AW believed there was a player in him, he’s a loyal man is Arsene. Too loyal sometimes….
Reus is one player I always dream of. But for now seems there is no space for him. Had Wenger read my mind and sold both Theo and Ox, then buys Reus and kept Gnabry… well I can only wish.
Most of the arguments being made to keep are not football related. The assessment why Pep and Barca want him? Really as though they never have overpaid or bought a burst — Stone anyone?
When you consider Danillo was about 20m, 50m for Bellerin is a lot. Just check out the English Championship, I am not even going international, except maybe Jung of Wolfsburg:
Cyrus Christie at 6’2′ with pace, Derby County
Jack Hunt – Sheffield
Paul Caddis – Birmimgham
Moses Odubago – Hull
And by the way did anyone noticed the RB for Burnley on Sunday- Lowton?
And many others wish Marshall…. Lol
Btw how’s Gnabry doing? Who has watched him play at W.Bremen? I hope we have a buy back clause cause in 3 years AS7 and Feo they’ll be in 30s and Gnabry will be right for picking. We could even start a a ‘come back home’ campaign like barcelona.
Disagree Obi as my view is football related alone. Bellerin imo will turn out to be a top top defender. As will Stones who will prove to be worth every penny City paid for him….
Lol Rico, Reus has been my one and only since 2010. He’s 27 now 🙁 .
It wouldn’t bethe first time City have bought to weaken an opponent. Bellerin would do well to study both Clichy and Sagna bought from us and spent quite a bit of bench time . Money or career his choice in the long run.
He has for so many on here too Marshall…
I don’t think he’s interested on moving Potter, and if he was, I’m sure it would be Barca and not City…
Apparently we wont be paying KSE £3m. I’d say the club is doing well without their ‘strategic and advisory services’ .
🙂 really….
Night guys, I’m off to get through the planner… Lol
rico, at 50 mill he’d still be a gift to Citeh, I’d like to think he’ll be playing in the red and white of Arsenal for a few years yet, we all know he’ll eventually go back home to his his roots but until that time comes lets all sit back and enjoy the ride, he’s a real joy to watch, imho he’s up there there with the legendary Luzhny the Moose but only time will tell lol.

Sorry Rico but it’s Guardiola . The mans a Catalan god . That’s why City will have the whip hand.
Morning All
Lets hope Bellerin has a second look
at ……………….Fabuloss……………..
How that lad would love to be in a
Arsenal shirt now.
The old chestnut Stones debate.
Sorry Obi and Scott:
I go by what I see
at the back needs a lot of games
I know Stones will make mistakes,
but, thats what the top coaches like.
A very talented youngish player.
I think Moureen and Glad-all-over
fighting to buy a youngish Stones,
tell’s you something.
Anyway.
Going back to devils Stones/Mustafi debate.
Mustafi has hit the ground running and
slotted in like his been here for years.
On top of all that,
we have a bit of Royalty.
We know Prince Harry’s a gooner.
Have a look?
Mustafi talk about Dead-Ringer.
What a nick name for a german.
Come on gooners.
So do I Micko and why wouldn’t he want to…
Potter, by the time Bellerin’s contract is up, Pep will have left City as he’s only there for 3 years isn’t he?
Morning Fred and all..
Morning Rico and all. I can’t see Wenger letting Hector leave, unless he kicks up a fuss and gets offered mega-money.
PrinceHarry Musthavvi ? Like it has a certain poetic ring about it!
Morning all.
As soon as a body is awarded a nickname he knows he has “arrived”.
And he’s certainly has arrived!
Morning Adam. Me neither, he probably knows that such another big sale to a rival would really cheese the fans off…
Wavy
Me and you so far.
2 votes for Prince Harry
Once again we have is he worth 50mil?
Do we need the money?
We all think his good..Don’t we?
Why sell to Sh*ty?
Normally he would return home(Barca)
so let’s hope he can find an
English Rose.
Ha ha Fred, hasn’t he found one already?
New post up now..
