30 goal striker to make a difference? Rob Holding treatment unfair?

Morning all.

Arsene Wenger has told us that the return of Alexis won’t necessarily solve our lack of goals issue which I find hard to believe because last season he was our highest goal scorer. I think he was the season before that too and last campaign, only Theo Walcott managed to get anywhere near the Chilean. Nineteen I think it was that Walcott scored which isn’t to be sniffed at from the wing. If Danny Welbeck can stay fit and find his shooting boots, he might find himself into double figures by the end of the season too. I’m sure Alexis would have buried at least one of those many chances that were on offer on Saturday evening that’s for sure. Yes, Butland had a good game but we did make him look good. Ian Wright has certainly made his feelings clear about the one we did score which was ruled offside after having a rant on instagram and I’m not surprised. As Kev said yesterday though, officials make mistakes, it happens as they are only human but when it’s against us, it hurts.

I watched the Totts play Chelsea yesterday. Anthony Taylor was the referee and he had an absolute stinker. How the game ended eleven v eleven I don’t know. The home team, playing their first league game at Wembley could so easily been down to nine men by the end. Nasty stuff from a few of their players and had Chelsea not run out winners, I bet Conte would have had much to say about the tackles some of his players were on the end of. Always nice to see the Totts lose, especially at a stadium in which we often win..

Stll, there’s more for us to be concerned about than them that’s for sure. Poch plans to sign four players before the transfer window whereas dear old Arsene seems to be solely focussed on selling ours. I know we need to offload players whose days at the club are clearly over but that shouldn’t get in the way of bring in who we need to. As said before, a top notch defender and midfielder and I reckon we’d be a whole lot stronger and we’d certainly not leak sloppy goals like we did at Stoke. Well, that’s as long as the players have a football mind of their own and aren’t easily led by Wenger.

Talking of the Frenchman, I thought his words about Rob Holding were harsh, certainly on the player. Having had a cracking FA Cup Final, he made a couple of little mistakes against Leicester when playing in a mix and match defence and now he supposed to lack confidence. Dumping him on the bench instead of playing him alongside the much experienced Merts on Saturday will hardly have done him any favours wiil it? Nor will seeing Wenger prefer to play players out of position instead. I doubt Merts was overly impressed either. Really poor from Wenger in my opinion.

Rumours are Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain has been offered a new four year deal at the club worth ยฃ125,000 a week. I’m far from convinced he’s happy at the club, or with Wenger so he might just stick his fingers up to the offer and leave for free next summer…

In other gossip, Bramall and Jenks are heading off to Birmingham on a season long loan…

Anyway, I’m off to bake myself a cake because no one else will. Seven years old today. Highbury House I mean, not me!!

Thanks guys for all your input over those years and at least we know that one day very soon, we’ll have something new to talk about. A new manager, perhaps even a new owner. The future is bright folks, we just have to wait a while for it to become the present…

Morning all and thanks Rico………………………………I love any post that mentions a Spud loss !

Happy 7th !…………….I`m only new here so thanks for letting me blog on a site that can see the wood for the trees !

Only think we have a bright future if Kroenke goes…………..if he doesn`t then we are fooked……………the odd FA Cup and Emirates Cup……………….fcuk the League Cup as we`re nearly as bad in that as the CL ! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Enjoy your cake !

I now have no problem understanding Scott since I hired my Stuffed Skippy !……………………………………….Gnarley`s no problem either as Launceston is the same whatever part of the world it is in…………………….and we have a Castle in our one ! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. potter says:

Happy 7th Rico , we have only just recovered from my granddaughters 4th birthday weekend , so I have seen enough cake to last for a few months. Christmas at least.

Quite what we do about The Arsenal I have no idea and it’s pretty obvious neither do they. We just stagger on at a level that doesn’t give us nosebleeds but keeps above mediocrity. Under thge present regime we can gnash our teeth and beat our chests but nothing will change . Scott asks why we berate Wenger but don’t apply the same bile to Kroenke ? I would suggest that it’s a matter of scale. Stan holds the cards but it’s Wenger that plays them.

  3. ScottfromOz says:

Morning all, and happy birthday, Ricos baby!!
Potter, Wenger cops it, Stan rarely does.
Stan extended Arsenes contract yet still doesn’t cop much.
I really don’t understand why, especially when one has actually done some good at the club, where the other hasn’t, and never will.
It should be both are repoanisble, both should cop it, imo but I know we will have to agree to disagree, as I’m in the minority on this topic ๐Ÿ™‚
LC, I’ve decided it’s not me with an accent, it’s you lot hahahaha

  4. goonster says:

Damn its been 7 years already rico??? Good Lord!!!! Still remember your first post. Lol??? promised to write a post for you back then. Still putting my finishing touch on it. Its gonna be epic???? thanks for giving me a home away from home. Here’s hoping for a hundred years more.

  5. rico says:

    Thanks Potter, Scott.

I think your assessment is pretty much spot on. And it’s the man who plays the cards who always shoulders the blame. Happens at every other club, why should Arsenal be any different.

  6. rico says:

I reckon so re Jenks, isn’t his contract up next summer?

Goonster, he’s not worth it… I don’t reckon he’ll be with the club next season though, I really don’t..

  7. goonster says:

Howdy Scott am changing my name soon mate. Stan right now dont look good on my sparkling image. Lol hey is sean still balling or did you coerce him to take up cricket instead.

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

Does our two boys going out on loan to Brum count against getting players off the books in helping to purchase new players ?

I had a terrible dream the other night that Kroenke had Wenger stuffed at the local taxidermist with artificial intelligence inserted into his buttocks and we ended up with more of the same shit !

  9. goonster says:

Rico am sorry maam but he will. Plus he ll renew his contract after the current one is done. He ll leave at 75!!!

  10. ScottfromOz says:

Stan, Sean’s going very well at football.
He lives for the game, and has the right attitude.
He’s playing mainly at CB, but they rotate the entire side each second half.
Had 10 Minutes as striker in his semi final on Saturday, and banged in a hat trick including a ripper of a volley.
    So far, so good.
Cricket bores the missus so she’s stopping that hahahah
    Thanks for asking.
How’s your little princess-does she have daddy wrapped around her little finger ๐Ÿ™‚
Rico, it’s a shame about Jenks, as he’s a top kid, but just not quite up to it, unfortunately.

  11. Meerkat says:

Happy birthday to the forum and it’s mistress, rico.

Well another day dawned, with the only news being about players having to go, before any more can be signed.Same ol’ same ol’.

I don’t understand the loan system very well, but Chelski seem to offload lots of their squad to loan clubs, even subsidising some of their salary. It seems even the top clubs buy a load of mediocre players, who will likely never get a game, so we aren’t alone there.

When le prof signed his new contract, he promised changes. He never said ‘ah, but’ he said ‘changes’. What are they? One fair signing and a freebie. All the anticipation of first, Mbappe, then Lemar, has dissipated. He may as well be honest and come out and say that under himself and Stan, there is never going to be any intention of competing with the top clubs. They don’t want to spend big, they want Sky, BT, commercial money and ticket sales bringing it in, with little going out. We all know that Kroenke and the board are happy with the money, they don’t really give a toss about the actual football.

When we start to get stuffed every game, it will be interesting to see their reaction. Humiliation at the hands of the two Manchester clubs awaits. So do the banners and abuse, but really that won’t change anything. Water off a duck’s back. If getting done so easily by BM last season didn’t ensure improved signings, nothing will.

Although I didn’t feel we were that bad against Stoke, it was still not good enough, the defence as we all know, was a complete shambles, and up front wasn’t much better.
Lacazette must wonder whether he’s made a mistake, the EPL is a tough league, and their aren’t many fighters amongst our little goonettes.

So Ox is being offered a fortune to turn up every week, ยฃ125,000. He has us over a similar barrel to the one Theo had us over when he negotiated a huge contract, we were desperate then and we are desperate now.

After a happy few weeks with us winning the Charity Shield, and just about winning our first game, it’s all gloom and doom now, dreading our game against L’pool next weekend.

Can anyone here give us some good news for a change? Please;-(

  12. DB10 says:

Congratulations on 7 years as the best blog site! Love the attitude of the people who post on here, and your contributions are always a good read. Think that Holding should feel angry – wrapping him in cotton wool won’t make the next Tony Adams – who in his early days had stinkers but rolled up his sleeves to become the best.

Kroeke’s ownership scares me, as does AW remaining at the helm. More huge storms to ride out methinks!

  13. Wavy says:

    Morning all.

Leave at 75? No chance. They’ll have to carry him out in a box, at which point he could be any extreme age. No I’m not joking. The guy’s like a goose grass seed. Once it’s stuck to you it’s almost impossible to remove without doing some serious damage to the material it adheres to!
    That’s Wenger in a nutshell!

It’s a very dreary, drab grey day here…….again.

  14. Obi says:

    Hi AlI:
Happy bday HH. Wish you many more.

I guess Wenger wants to destroy Holdings confidence just like he did with Chambers, and also tried to do with Chamberlain… Transfers dealing aside, it is inexplicably when AW CANNOT even work with the team he has. I guess Stan was the one who made that team selection for Stokes and also phoned in the subs.. …how anyone continue to defend Wenger is perplexing to me. Wenger has a clear case of dictatorial syndrome…..just don’t know when to leave.

  15. rico says:

Thanks Meerkat, you’ve become as cynical as the rest of us… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ha ha Kev, I thought that had gone unnoticed… Morning to you by the way…

  16. allezkev says:

    Happy Birthday HH…

Bramhall to Birmingham is a good move, hopefully he’ll get plenty of match time.
Jenkinson is off of the wage bill for another year, I wonder if Arsenal are paying any of his salary and have Birmingham paid a loan fee for him?

Gibbs next, he’ll be off on loan, Perez I would keep

  17. goonster says:

Wow Scott a volley???? he could be our new robin van persie. Hope he’s still a gooner??? Lately most young kids i know have switched allegiance to the chavs and both manc clubs.

  18. andrewh1313 says:

Congrats on 7 years rico! Thought you were starting a bingo club to celebrate ๐Ÿ™‚

10m in from Scz, 10m in from Gabriel. 3 or 4 out on loan including Martinez. Prob another 9m in from Perez or loan. Spent 46m.
How much we got to spend, didn’t we have over 100m?

  19. goonster says:

Nice scott keep him a gooner for life. Unfortunately mine is a pony princess. Prancing around like energetic imp. She hates all sports. Asked her last week “brianna what do you wanna be when you grow up” a pony princess she yelled at the top of her voice. Geez what i ll give to have a strapping young buck now for a son. You lucky bastard Scott???

  20. ScottfromOz says:

    He’s a good boy, Stan.
Heart of gold, polite and intelligent-again, must get it from mum ๐Ÿ™‚
Make sure your girl finds a good lad who plays football ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. potter says:

10m in from Scz, 10m in from Gabriel. 3 or 4 out on loan including Martinez. Prob another 9m in from Perez or loan. Spent 46m.

More to the point :- What did Lacazette cost ?

    Breaking even again.

  22. Meerkat says:

Does anyone reckon there is anything in the talk of Messi joining Pep at Citeh?

I’d love to see some of these fancy Dan’s come over here and have to slog it out in the EPL. It would be a proper culture shock for some of the Diva’s. A bit like Ozil really, a fish out of water, bless him, (losing at Stoke, somewhere he’d never even heard of until he came here). Can you see Messi here, getting kicked all over the pitch? ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!’

Having said that Christiano did well at Manure for a while, but couldn’t wait to get over to RM to showboat against inferior sides week after week.

  23. DB10 says:

Watched Messi last night – Barca look ordinary and he now does twice as much graft. Assuming he’d take a pay cut, I reckon he would re-join Pep.

  24. Obi says:

Andrewh @ 12:07, at this point am not even concerned about buying players because I highly doubt that AW can use the players in the right way. Given him Messi, Mbappe and Lewandoski and he will play them all as CBs….. smh.

  25. Wavy says:

Sorry Rico…happy 7th anniversary. It seems like only yesterday! And all those posts and all those posts to come. You are a marvel of the blogasphere and a credit to your trade. Excellent, keep ’em coming.

Walker would have to be Stan, always looking for a dodgy deal! Although the episode when Mainwaring bought a syrup would be a good Stan storyline!
    Pike and Theo have possibilities.
Dithering Sgt Wilson, definitely Wenger especially when playing with his puffer jacket zip, or making determined and timely substitutions like Wilson they are usually late and often inappropriate.
Cech I’d have as Godfrey. Nice bloke but just a little past it!
    And
Mrs Pike, the tea lady at the training ground.

Feel free to disagree. It’s harder tan you’d think!

  26. Meerkat says:

I thought Sgt Wilson too Wavy.
Also, with a real name of John le Mesurier, it just has to be a French connection.

  27. andrewh1313 says:

“Andrewh @ 12:07, at this point am not even concerned about buying players because I highly doubt that AW can use the players in the right way. Given him Messi, Mbappe and Lewandoski and he will play them all as CBsโ€ฆ.. smh.”

That would be great, he could then be carried away to the white coats place!

  28. Le Coq Monster says:

A thought on why Wenger may also be trying to get rid of players and not buy others is so we have a zero net spend to build up our bank already huge bank balance ……………………….as he will need enormous funds next season to replace the Rebel 3 if they leave for nothing !

  29. allezkev says:

Yeah Rico, I never thought of that… ?

Ismael Bennacer has been sold to Empoli…
There’s no stopping Wenger when he gets into gear.

Arsenal has had 6 reported bids from Newcastle and Everton for Lucas Perez.

Seri has signed for Barcelona, so now Wenger can gob off about how he could have signed him…

  30. allezkev says:

I agree Rico, I like him but Wenger is behaving very oddly atm…

I did suggest yesterday that he could be suffering from dementia, not seriously of course, but maybe the stress of last season, the criticism and the contract has caused him to go mad?

  31. allezkev says:

Alexis would probably be attracted to the prospect of playing with Neymar at PSG but I can’t see him wanting to move to Monaco, PSG would also pay him a lot more dosh…

We could try and get Rabiot and Draxler from PSG in exchange?

  32. Rick says:

    Afternoon Rico and the House.
7 years Old today Congratulations Rico.
Its allmost 5 years since I found you and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then.
Must say I have enjoyed every bit off it and I am looking foreward to the next 7years
I understand Holden and Jack are playing in the U23 team tonight looking forward to another good show from Nerlson

  33. allezkev says:

    Wenger has brought in;

    ยฃ11.9 million for Szczesny
    ยฃ10 million for Gabriel
    ยฃ2 million for Hinds
    ยฃ0.45 million for Bennacer

That’s plus ยฃ24 million on sales, so what excuse has Wenger got for not spending another ยฃ50/ยฃ75million on players?

All this rubbish about the size of the squad is just Arsenes usual bullshit…

    No wonder Kroenke loves him…

  34. Rick says:

    Tonights Team

  36. Le Coq Monster says:

Who cares about all this total eclipse of the sun business !……………………nothing new………………….Wenger`s wallet has never seen the light of day !

Nelson……………..1-0……………………………he left two City players making love on the floor ! hahaha

  38. Kk says:

    Happy 7th Anniversary HH
Well done rico and all regulars who keep this site live and kicking. .

Hopefully next year we will see changes at the arsenal from top to bottom..

  39. dan says:

Hi Rico. I have read the blog for 3 years. Happy birthday. I can only concur with a change from top to bottom. New board. Most importantly new manager and a change of deadwood players. I would say 3 players in. 1 to help xhaka. A beast cb and if Sanchez leaves then a amazing replacement, I would say draxler if we could do swap plus cash. Many thanks

  40. potter says:

Similar traits of the first team . Making the errors and giving the ball away toallow City to attack with pace. Arsenal looking good going forward , Wilshere is too good for this level but not showing the mobility of the young kids . Good goals though well taken.

  41. Le Coq Monster says:

    HT………3-1

Lots of Pep tippy tappy from City…………Wheelchair looks like he should be, class above .

Holding looks lacking confidence……………………AMN, still not sure about him !……………………..Nelson looks class, but because City keep the ball so well, he hasn`t had much of it, but great goal from him !……………………………………Eddie, I dont like to compare him , but he does remind me of Wrighty !………………………….entertaining stuff !

  42. Le Coq Monster says:

Diaz…….4-2……………………..10 men a side will suit City more with their possession of ball …………..

  43. potter says:

Shame to see Wilshere go off the way he did but he was getting targeted . I suppose he is a big name for a youngster trying to make his mark ( or leave it ). Once he had gone we lost the midfield and Maitland Niles was having a bit of a mare with passes falling short and generally looking off the pace. We ere running the match until City upped the physicality then we folded a bit.

  44. ScottfromOz says:

Not sure what to think of Everton v Citeh.
One one hand it’s good Citeh aren’t tearing teams apart after spending another fortune, but on the other, Everton appear to have bought very well.
    Morning all.

  45. potter says:

GG < I don't know what he earns but it smacks of a figure much higher than he could get elsewhere. Chances are that we are picking up the balance until his contract comes to an end.

  46. potter says:

According to TotalSportek he earns ยฃ 45000 a week. According the Birmingham mall they have a wage cap of ยฃ5000 a week . It seems that he has 3 years to go on his contract. We tried to sell him to Palace in January last year but they could not agree wage terms.

  47. Lee says:

Who the fuck keeps putting these sub-standard players on these bumper deals? No wonder we can’t get rid of any of them….yet the player(s) that carry the team don’t get paid what they’re worth! All very socialistic in my opinion and definitely holding the club back. The annual salary total is skewed in how is distributed and needs realigning, preferably by a good manager in the not too distant! ??

  48. rico says:

ยฃ45,000 for a squad player at best is hideous. I like the player and think he’s still got a great career in football ahead of him but sadly for him, not at Arsenal. Same with Gibbs, he’d be great for a club like West Ham or other mid table clubs..

  49. Adam says:

Morning Rico. That will be because he needs to trim the squad that he assembled first. At the moment it is unmanageable. ๐Ÿ™‚

  50. ScottfromOz says:

    Morning all.
    Aren’t they overpaid ๐Ÿ™‚
No question that some are on great deals, relatively speaking, where some could definitely earn a lot more elsewhere, but still, it’s absolutely obscene, the money these guys earn.
Wenger has to keep up with the times, but he’s made a rod for his own back and it’s biting him on the arse, assuming he sorts all the contracts.

  51. rico says:

Im sure he said he does Scott, certainly how much a player will earn.. I doubt very much if he types the contract out though.

  52. ScottfromOz says:

He does everything else, according to some, Rico ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
I’m not questioning whether he does the contract negotiations as I’d expect a manager to.
It’s the transfer negotiations he should keep out of, imo.

  53. rico says:

My own opinion is that he has far too much control over things he shouldn’t, certainly when it comes to transfers, salaries, contracts, but I doubt very much he controls absolutely everything- nearly perhaps, but not everything…

  54. ScottfromOz says:

I was exaggerating, of course, Rico ๐Ÿ™‚
Still, I guess we all know where we stand on the how and why this situation evolved.
