Seeing as there is not much news for the men, it’s good to give the others teams within the club a bit of airing.
Yesterday, the Ladies defeated their Italian opposition ASD Torres 3-1 in the first leg of their quarter final fixture. Shame they leaked an away goal, but surely they must feel confident of reaching the semi’s? This side will score goals, and there’s no betting against them getting that away goal back quite soon into the second leg.
I forgot to mention yesterday’s fixture was the first under new manager Shelley Ker who said this after the game:
I thought they were fantastic. It wasn’t an easy game and it’s not going to be an easy game in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and I thought the girls were magnificent in their discipline and their organisation.
The downside is that we created our own problems, but that’s because the players had the will to go and play and be creative. I’ll never stop them doing that because I think it’s attractive football to watch.
That sounds right out of the ‘Arsene Wenger Coaching manual doesn’t it? Has he been training these girls since Vic left?
Why do these Arsenal managers play such a game. Why do they concentrate on the attractive side to the game at all costs?
Ok, hopefully the ladies scoring three goals will see them through but how many times does just one away goal cost dear, too many is the answer in my opinion.
And then what happens with the younger ones later in the day, they play all the good football and concede the first goal to the Mancs!
But, they fought back and secured all three points at the end so will anyone really ‘care’ about the goal given away?
Overall, it was a good day for The Arsenal!
I’m ending with the gossip today:
The Independent suggest that we, along with Chelsea and Newcastle United are leading the chase to sign St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Having had a torrid time at AC Milan, including a few loan spells, he was released from the Italian club and went on to sign for St Etienne but he has no plans to say there.
His goal to game ratio is roughly one in every two games, so, on paper, he is not the prolific striker we need but in a side which creates chances as we do, who knows eh..
Remember the last ‘flop’ we signed from one of the Milan sides……
Then there is the link to Fernando Amorebieta, the 6′ 4″ central defender who plays for Athletic Bilbao
His brother has Spanish Newspaper Marca:
We have had contacts with Anzhi, who are very interested in his services, but given the desire to play in England, that move cannot take place. We are in contact with Arsenal.
Still laughing over that one?
Well this will make you laugh a little more.
Amorebieta is so so good, he’s made just 15 appearances for Bilbao this season! Come back Squilli, all is forgiven.
On that note, I really need to go and have a lay down.
Or should that be a lie down….
Have a good day all….
