Gossip up to start and this one has to be one of the most stupid ever to have been made up and no prizes for guessing where it is from.
This is the exact couple of lines for The Daily Mail:
Petr Cech is the surprise name on Arsenal’s six-man shortlist to replace goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny next season.
The Chelsea keeper has been watched extensively by Gunners scouts.
Think we’ll leave that where it belongs and move onto today’s main post.
Liam Brady was a class act for Arsenal. The man was legendary and a complete footballer.
He was mercurial and that Superstar for us in our successful years in the 70’s. He has been involved with the club for so many years and has “The Arsenal DNA”.
Which brings me to the point, why has he all of a sudden relinquished his role as head of youth? It’s come as a bit of a surprise, especially as you don’t go from being involved to being content with celebrity dinners as a guest speaker.
Surely he would want to see his work rewarded with a few more Jack Wilshire’s. No?
Bob Wilson also left quietly and our goalkeeping standard has obviously dropped. Since Lehmann, we haven’t had a decent enough stopper between the sticks.
Pat Rice hasn’t been seen at all since retiring, this was another die hard “Arsenal is my life” man. You would think he’d watch us play.
C’mon, even Samir pokey Nasri and his Shisha buddy have come to watch us.
This is a man who for over 10 years sat next to Arsene Wenger for hundreds of games, a man who gave most of his life to the Club.
So here we have three key former players, legends in their own right who as midfielder, goalie and defenders could offer invaluable coaching leave the club.
Who has replaced them?
Steve Bould is the only one I can note and he seems very restricted recently, like you can see the masking tape over his mouth and hands super glued inside his tracksuit bottoms.
While we can’t defend, we aren’t particularly prolific either. This brings be to the point of wingers at our club. Or shall I say lack of them!
We simply get into good advanced areas of the pitch and cross blindly, more often than not without clearing the first defender. Wenger has addressed that target man over the years by buying lumps that actually can head the ball, but our crossing has been so substandard there’s no point.
Giroud-can head a ball.
Bendtner-can head a ball. (even if he has a heavy first touch)
Podolski- Can head a ball.
Chamakh- Can head a ball. (even with 2 tubs of Wella gel on that ridiculous barnet of his)
We have missed that George Armstrong, Anders Limpar, Marc Overmars type of classic winger that would not only take his man on, but beat a few and actually put in a decent cross into the box. We might as well try to stop scoring from corners as I have not seen this team win a single header from a cross or those 20 corners in the sloppy defeats.
Furthermore, we cannot play defenders as wingers!
Remember Eboue, decent RB, not a winger!
Same can be said about our central attacking midfielders like Arshavin, Cazorla and Ramsey, they are not wingers so why play them there?
Don’t even start me on what position Diaby or Gervinho play.
We have Oxlade-Chamberlain who could be a good winger, Theo Walcott is not bad there, but they are not wingers. Our fullbacks could not whip in a decent cross if their life depended on it. (Although Jenks is getting there)
Sagna’s crossing is shocking! The man needs to put in the hours, honestly on that kind of money. Until we fork out some serious money on 2 world class wingers, we will have £240k per week worth of striking talent warming our bench or jumping for the fun of it when a cross comes in.
It’s true we don’t play to our strengths, like at Bayern when Theo was up front against 2 giants at the back. Like he will win the headers?? Or trying to play through the middle when the other teams weakness is at full backs.
We have the Cannons up front but the ball is never loaded..
Anders Limpar, Marc Overmars, Robert Pires, George Armstrong and Graham Rix to name a few….
Come on Arsene, go get us a proper winger in the summer……
That’s it for another day, have a good one….
