Vertonghen, M'Vila, Giroud & Podolski to sign? The Arsene Wenger Witch-Hunt goes on…

Just a few titbits because we all love them:

The Sun have a fab story, not too far off being believable too. The paper suggests we aren’t going to hang around when the season closes in relation to our summer transfers. Lukas Podolski could be announced this week and then Jan Vertonghen, Montpellier’s Olivier Giroud and Rennes playmaker Yann M’Vila could be in the door within weeks after this season closes.

I’m sure that if this story is close to the truth, most Arsenal fans would be pretty happy, then all we need to do is snap up an aging goal-keeper.

Simples :)

The Daily Mail report that Andrey Arshavin, Marouane Chamakh, Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner, Denilson, Carlos Vela and Almunia are all set to be sold off/let go for free this summer. Good!

On to today’s post:

Many of you will remember the witch hunt that Arsene Wenger went through after Arsenals poor start of the season saw us slump to 17th in the league, every pundit and anybody associated to football in any description was adamant that Arsenals 15 year run on the trot in The Champions League was about to come to an end,

No matter who you listened to, whatever we read, most were saying that Arsene Wenger had run out of idea’s and his usual vibrancy and energy had disappeared much like Fabregas Clichy and Na$ri.

As strange as it may have seemed, they all felt that Arsenal was in dire need of a new manager, one with more energy and more commitment.

They felt that after we had sold those afore-mentioned players we had also given away the only chance we had of retaining our top four position.

The players who Arsene Wenger signed late in the transfer window were seen as nothing other than panic buys and they would only drag us down even further.

They said that Arsene Wenger had lost the plot and he’s refusal to spend and spend big was the reason that The Arsenal were struggling and until we sack him we will not see Champions League football again.

He has managed to get us to 3rd place in the Premier League which all those so-called expert pundits claim to be the best league in the world. Ok, Champions League football is not guaranteed yet and we could still slump and miss out but with injured players slowly returning and other players finding blistering form I have no doubts that we will see the season out and claim our usual position which has become legendary.

I would at this stage mention other clubs around us that are also fighting hard for inclusion into the Champions League, Chelsea and Tottenham of course are the closest and Newcastle could yet spring a surprise.

Chelsea have had to sack their manager Andre Villas-Boas for not winning more games and now while they look for their next short-term manager they have an interim Manager and Tottenham have crumbled to a spell of 6 games without winning which has seen The Arsenal come from 10pts behind them to being 3pts above them!

What I think is strange, is no witch hunt has started on the Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, just six games ago Redknapp was saying that he didn’t just see them qualifying for Champions league but he truly believed they were a good bet to win the Premier League.

While Redknapp continues to not come under scrutiny by the media, the same people are still reluctant to give praise to our manager which for me, shows nothing but biased and shallow opinion.

The media, the so-called pundits, the red top reporters are nothing but Gutter Snipes!

I like that phrase, it reminds me of a comic I used to read as a kid and its taken me many years to find a use for it,Β  vermin pundits that we all know and hate are very fitting.

I was listening to Talk S***E the other night on the way home with Durham and Gough and their hatred of The Arsenal came across very clear. They find it impossible to say a good word in favour of our club and our manager and I would urge all Gooners to only listen or read your daily Arsenal fix on proper Arsenal sites!

You can pick up all the latest news, transfer news and it won’t be tainted from pathetic anti Arsenalists.

Support your club and give credit when it’s due, Wenger at this moment in time is a legend and is the right man to lead us, we will all no doubt look at the end of the season and see where we are but you know what you get with Wenger, he won’t financially break us and he will always do his best for us and the law of averages suggest that we must be close to a trophy soon.

With this current squad all fit, that day must be very close.

The ‘will he or won’t he’ will continue over Van Persie, the press will love that one won’t they? I just hope he stay’s and signs his new contract real soon but, should he see his future elsewhere The Arsenal will still go on, we will compete and we will replace him if it comes to it.

Robin knows he is appreciated here at The Arsenal, he knows that we have always shown him support and no doubt he knows that he is at the best club in the world so I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere.

Pundits, show them the contempt they deserve, they are nothing but Gutter Snipes, they willΒ  carry on with their witch-hunt, let’s just not join them….

Good Morning all, mighty fine post Steve..

We all know that the media have their favs and our club and manager aren’t one of them and who cares, let them try and get under our skin all they like but it won’t work.

As you say, we aren’t quite there yet and there’s still a lot of work to be done but our players and manager just need to carry on doing what they have been for the last couple of months and hopefully all things will pan out well in the end….

This was from devilgunner this morning:

NICO Yennaris is excited about leaving his comfort zone at Arsenal to join Notts County.

The England youth international, 18, has spent 11 years with the Gunners, having joined them when he was seven, and he lives close to their training ground.

But he is now staying in a hotel in Nottingham, after making the first loan move of his career to Meadow Lane until the end of the season.

He made his debut for the Magpies in a goal-less draw against Scunthorpe, replacing suspended Notts captain Neal Bishop in central midfield.

“I’ve been at Arsenal for a long time so I really feel at home there, but it’s good to come out of your comfort zone sometimes to learn and experience new things,” he said.

“Coming to Notts is a good opportunity for me to do that, play games and hopefully improve as a player.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

After making his full debut for the Gunners in a Carling Cup tie against Bolton last October, Yennaris made his Premier League bow as a substitute against Manchester United only two months ago.

“You can’t ask for a better debut,” he said. “To play against one of the best teams in the country was a great feeling.”

Yennaris is highly rated by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Magpies manager Keith Curle felt the promising teenager made an impressive debut against Scunthorpe.

“He was a bit nervous at the beginning, but once he settled down he gave a good account of himself,” he said.

Good. It seems we have another player who will definately go on to be a 1st team player not just a squad member.

Welcome PG, i don’t think anyone really takes a lot of notice of the ‘gutter snipes’ as SP calls them, especially Gough, how a cricketer can be talking about Football is just a joke…..

If Gough spoke sense, he’d be commentating on his own game, not football….

And funnily enough we have heard nothing from erstwhile Arsenal player and egomaniac Emanuel Petit recently. Strangely this has coincided with Arsenal’s latest run of consecutive victories. How odd. It’s almost as though he is some kind of rent-a-quote with a grudge who only wants to come out to play when we lose……

These pundits are very shameless and they do not think fast, I remembered a post on before Arsenal and tiny Tots played, they drew up a team of north London between Arsenal and tiny Tots and the list had only one Arsenal Player on it, which is Van persie, the idiot explained it position by position, taking Walker over Sagna, Ekoto over Santos, these are France and Brasil’s full backs respectively, then Dawson over Vermaelen, Gallas over Kochielny, Modric over the best passer of the ball in the League and Parker over Song the DM with the highest assist in the league and old Friedel over Woz, Redknapp over Wenger Lennon over Walcott, but they are 3 points below, you see how useless the football pundits are.

i’m not sure we’ll sign two strikers but if we took the rest of that lot we’d be in cracking shape. i really hope jack gets healthy for the euros, gets his grove back and has a solid international showing; working him in with song & co. along with the new midfield signing(s) will ensure a strong start to next season. if we we come in as sharp as we could and don’t have qualifying to worry about we’ll foster a good start to all competitions.

i’m glad you bring up the beginning of the season, though. i still cant believe all the backlash towards a man who has helped facilitate the transition to being the third most valuable club in the world. 8-2 was dreadful but 21 from 7 is quite the opposite and what people instantly forgot is that it was just. 3. points.

we waited too long in the summer window to recover from losing jack, fab and na$ri but recent reports suggest that we’ve learned our lesson. an official podolski announcement would send a clear message to us fans (and the rest of europe) that our future is extremely bright and that trophies are on the horizon.

    March 28, 2012 at 10:00am

Yeah that’ll be it. We’re playing well because of Emanuel Petit and his stinging criticism. He is the true architect of our success.

Does that mean his silence when we have played well in the past is the cause of our demise too?

maybe scott . but we will never know. all i know is that when a manager wants players , he writes up alist ,gives it to the powers that be and tells them to go get them ! fergie does it with gill, wenger did it with dean, spurs now have comolli i think . the managers NEVER do the deal with agents ,its the directors that deal with it all . gazidis comes from th u.s, ,no problem with that . but he was brought in with no knowledge of the game from what ive heard and now hes f@ckin around trying to be clever and tight and its cost us the best signings . i reckon wengers had a word with hill w@@d and stan and told them to never put him in that position again . all down tho ivan in myesyes, i think he should be sacked. he really is out of touch ,like most of the board unfortunatley . if we had dein at the helm , i bet we would at least have got mata .

Steve, while I was never one of the sack Wenger brigade I am not totally an AKB fan either, and I think taking a balanced view is always best as thepolar extremes of wanting Wenger out or fanatically supporting him despite anything that happens creates a lot of the rediculous frenzy. Mistakes that have been made are difficult to understand, and we also don’t know whether these mistakes are more to do with AW or the board. I wrote on one blog that we can’t blame AW for mistakes made as we don’t know if it is him causing the issues. We have to therefore take the board and AW together and for arguments sake I will refer to them as the Arsenal heirarchy.

Fabregas we knew was going to Barca at some time and if you look at the situation with his background at the club, that all his youth acadamy mates were there and where the club is at present you can’t blame him. I think he always holds Arsenal in the highest regard. It was just a special case with him and Barca. I also don’t blame Wenger or the board for the Fabregas situation. With Clichy I think it was a natural time to part ways so I am not distressed about that one. Nasri is different. In the end I blame him and view him as a greedy unfaithful money grabber. He gave us half a good season, in what 3, then had the nerve to suggest that we didn’t match his ambition. Well he hadn’t matched ours either in terms of what he had given us in his time there. He should have been thinking the club have been patient with me to deliver my potential and now with Cesc gone it is my turn to step up and become the creative force at this club and repay their patience. When he didn’t sign the next contract we had to sell him so I don’t blame the heirarchy for that. However, who is responsible for letting his contract get to one year, a situation that we now find ourselves in with other key players. Someone within the heirarchy has not done their job properly so they are not blameless.

While the players brought in have been positive on the whole, so I would not call them panic buys in terms of what they add to the squad, why did we wait til the last knockings to get them? By then we were already a few games into the season with the first few games being a tough start, including some key rivals. I have often said that the difference between when we bought these players and if we had got them 6 weeks earlier was possibly about 7 points dropped. For a club of our stature that is nothing short of gross footballing negligence from the heirarchy. In any other business an avoidable mistake that has this level of consequence would get you at best severely reprimanded and possibly even sacked. This for me is the biggest of all the issues in the last year or so. There is a complete lack of accountability in the club that shows a high level of disrespect to the fans.

We still don’t know whether it was all down to AW or the board slowing things down, or not doing what he requested. Even if it was all AW’s fault I would let bygones be bygones now because I always said that if he relinquished some of his stubborness, and accepted that certain things needed to be changed that he would still be the man to lead us back to trophies. That said we can’t just wash away the negligent mistakes and pretend they didn’t happen. We just don’t know whether Aw has unfairly taken the flack early in the season for what may not have been his fault but either way the fans have (rightly so) given the Arsenal heirarchy a verbal warning, and that heirarchy has to include the manager. If you don’t make the same silly mistakes again fine, we will speak no more of it and all pull together to drive this team on to trophies next year. But if you do this again?

I had a problem with Campbell at the time, didn’t like the way he failed to turn up for a medical, hoping (or his father was) that a so called bigger and better club came in for him, they didn’t.

So it seemed to me that he ‘settled’ for us, rather than he had ambition and desire to come and play for us.

I reserve my judgement on him, i see a little bit of the Anelka scenrio happening in the not to distant future, especially if he turns out to be really good and his father remains his agent.

As I said on another blog after the liverpool game, Arsene has always had to fight against all the odds to achieve anything, more so now with chelski & citeh. Instead of being praised for this, the media twists it to make him look like a serial underachiever. I can look at all the variables over the last 6 years and say without doubt, that he has worked wonders to even keep us competitve at the top. Fans who say “Wenger out” should be forgiven, because they are uninformed and dont know any better !!

Ex players bagging the club does absolutely nothing.
Seriously,I thought it was dead set certainty we would come good with Injured players coming back, and new players gelling.
    I’m no genius,but this wasn’t rocket science….it was obvious.
How different were we to last season, really?
    Nasri gave us 3 months.
Fabregas gave us bits and pieces in between injuries.
    RVP missed half the season.
Were we really so much worse off this season……I don’t think so.
How people kept underestimating the impact our Injury list had amazes me still.
    What’s happening now was inevitable.
People complicate issues, and there was nothing complicated about why we struggled early on.

Lansbury has been brought up to play a certain style of football however there are only a few managers with the foresight to utilise it .When he got his 15 minutes of fame each game with Pearce in the under 21’s suddenly they improved, if he was at Bolton or Swansea or back at Norwich for instance he would get playing time. However anyone that saw Alardyce play or manage would know that he has only one set of values and they do not encompass those of Wenger or Lansbury.

Scott, i don’t think anyone honestly under estimates the impact our injuries have had, both SP and AK have said as much in their recent posts.

I don’t think so alan, i don’t think for one minute he liked listening to the fans singing ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’, those same fans that once sang about Wenger and his magic hat….

I see him making 2/3 very early signings and be ready for a proper challenge next season…

As Scott said earlier, one maybe two trophies then if he wants to go, let him do so on his terms…

But, should he not change and we get to the first day of pre-season and things are staying the same, they’ll be unrest i strongly suspect

Current form is great and no doubt back in the dark days of mid-winter we would have accepted being 3rd in the league. However…

at the start of the season what were our expectations for March – I would have hoped for a similar league postion but in at least one of either the FA or Champs League competitions. We look good now but taken over the whole season I think it’s been a dissapointment especially as we are showing now how we can and should perform.

I have no answer as to why we have so many Injuries, but I can hazard a guess.
Contrary to popular belief, most injuries come from NOT being worked too hard, but NOT being worked hard enough.
From training greyhounds,I can guarantee you the hardest part with an athlete is getting them fit.
Once fit,it takes very little to keep them that way.

We are not building cities, Scott. Just a footy side owned by billionaires, so money isn’t a problem

While other clubs buy mature talent, we buy kids that require years to mature. You cannot do that when the billionaries are controlling things. It is a sad thing now kids in lower grades cannot expect a game in firsts based on ability, because they have to make way for a foreign kid going to Arsenal, or matures foreigners to other clubs

You can’t wait for maturity while other clubs buy mature talent. The modern money in the modern game has destroyed the traditional junior through club ranks

    Rico,that’s too simple an explanation,imo.
Look at individual players and what affected them early on.
Vermaelen…came off a lengthy Injury, but after time is back to 100%.
Sagna……lost a fair whack of time due to Injury, but back to his best.
Mertesacker….brought In to a New club, took time to hit his straps.
Arteta, playing a different role as our midfield was under enormous pressure, playing brilliantly now.
Gibbs….on and off with injuries early on,going great now.
Jenkinson….a baby, showed great potential early, but too much too soon.
    Miquel……as above.
Ox,slowly, slowly brought along, and the benefits are showing.
Ok,not the entire squad, but tell me how a club undergoing these changes would do anything but improve.

Lets face it we were always struggling to keep Cesc, he had been a great servant to us and repaid us with a wealth of super displays. He always intended to return home and i don’t hold that against him, he left us for the second best club in the world where he has already won half a dozen trophies he is one that deserves it in my eyes, but i lay a penny to a pinch of sh-t ours is the first result he looks for. Na$ri a diferent story i believe he is looking for wealth and trophies he also is looking at what Arsenal had in reserve and perhaps he thought he would take the gamble now, i don’t feel no animosity to him but there will be a time and i’m not talking years where he may just think he made a huge mistake.

    well, it’s like this

You’ve heard the expression ” bean counter ” AW is an economist by profession. The club has accountants

For them, following their chosen business model is a must, and AW is the man they want, as he understands and is that way inclined. To them, it’s a profit venture, not a sporting club

I have a friend, a former senior partner with Ernst & Young. The bastard will not admit he’s wrong ever ” Oh we were right as it fit the business model ” ( face palm time at the cafe )

John, I say, you accountants and economists won’t be flexible ” Wot! flexible! It’s about profit ”

Rico, AW is French as well as an economist. Not a good combination for flexibility, also, if the club is profiting, why should they change? I’m looking at it from their viewpoint now

AW was fired from coach of a J league crew to manager of one of the world’s great sides. It’s akin to a recent law graduate being made chief justice. The reason? AW is an economist who understood football and business management as a consultant. That’s why he’s there

    Idi Amin was more flexible

Scott…….if Barca would be thrown straight into the premier league they would last only one season. Once the novelty has worn off they will finish between 3rd to 7th. And their players will want to leave. why?? because they will not withstand going to Stoke, Blackburn, Swansea and other clubs on a cold frosty wednesday evening. And getting battered and bruised for their pains.

Sir SP…….I said that that was AW’s philosophy at around November. He was building for the future and was waiting for the likes of Miyachi, Frimps, Yennaris, Coquelin, etc to stake their claim for a daily place in the first 11. And I was pilloried for it. There are some things I will never forgive AW for….like the 2-8 thrashing where it was bought on by the club itself, or certain substitutions, or the fact that its the same system whether its the first 11 or the reserves or the under nappies. You have to be able to change to play with the players you have. And to go like lambs for slaughter with the same tactics when our team was out injured and depleted and having the likes of Traore in the side was sheer suicide.

Sir AK…… you remember when I used to say that I do not give a shit to the Champions League or Carling Cup or FA cup?? Its the league and the Charity shield I care about. Its them I want to win. The rest are a bonus.

BDW Sir AK…….do you want anymore vids regarding our history?? I hope you will enjoy it when you are home.

As said in the article, every critic & his dog (some fans too) were queueing up to condemn Arsenal and wenger at the start of the season. I was not comfortable with this as i feel Wenger has earned our onconditional support. That being said, I could understand why as the team were not performing. After fighting against adversity all season & still managing to climb the table, What i dont get, is why people fail to give props where due. Its like people want us to fail just so that they can say ‘told you so’

C*nt though he is, there is no excuse for that. The team has been inconsistent up til now, but with a young squad hopefully they’ll learn. Recent signs have been encouraging with senior players like verm arteta & rvp making sure the lads dont rest on their laurels

In all fairness Alan Utd do get the full benefit of referee decisions, i have always believed the FA and other authorities are fixed but thats only my view but when you sit and watch all the games that are televised you start to realise that the top teams do get on average more decisions than the lower ones, Ferdinand Said the other day that things even out in the course of a season, i don’t believe he really believes that though

excellent post,,we dont have talksport in ireland, but we do have tony cascarino, ronnie whelan, mark lawrenson, john gilles and ray hougton,, all complete c@nts as far as arsenal are concerned, when ronnie whelan is on the premiership(irish MOTD) he cant bring himself to give arsenal credit,he always seems to mention lpool when talking about us,as if to say we are on the same level as those useless bastards, cascarino is laughable, for a man with no ties to ireland whatsoever,he carved a average inernational career out of complete lies,he is english,he has italian grandparents, yet we have to hear his voice in ireland like he has authority,or medals!!,,all these old players dont know what they are talking about,i think the best pundits on tv are gary neville and roy keane,,their is no bullshit with them,no hidden agendas, they played for teams this century and have the experience and most importantly MEDALS to back it up.

There are many words written about Arsenal and most of them are complete and utter tosh. An opinion is an opinion and that is all it is. It may or may not be true and often even that is a matter of opinion. Even a fact is often a matter of opinion, as is proof. From what I see and read Arsenal are and have always been news. Sports journalists divide their time equally between their keyboards, talking nonsense and making up rumours on the phone and the pub. Between those places a lot of laziness occurs and when they can’t be bothered, they turn to Arsenal because Arsenal are always news. What is real is paying for a season ticket, year after year and watching the games at the stadium and not the abridged highlights on MOTD. Most supporters know what they are watching and don’t give a shit whether Arsene Wenger is or isn’t an accountant by trade. Who cares? What matters is winning games and playing beautiful football while doing it. Why pay someone millions and millions of Β£s a year and then spend your time second-guessing him. Mind you, all this is only my opinion. It is not fact and I never got any of it from Google.

What brought it home to me Wise1 was the sending off of Van Persie against Barcelona we were leading the tie and he shot at goal 1 second after the whistle, not to mention the sending off in the final of Jens Leyman. Even with the best team in the world we wouldn’t win it, if it doesn’t suit the authorities thats it.

Sir SP and I are uneqiovocal upon this issue. We have been banging the drum about match fixing for ages now. Infact I have even quoted the BBC on this and put out articles.

To tell you more at the moment UEFA is even investigating an international match between two countries who were playing a UEFA qualigying game for Euro 2008 where one country would win the other by a result of 4-0. And many bets were played that day. All aiming at 4-0. 5 players were involved, 4 from one country and 1 from the other. I am not naming the countries because the investigations are still pending. But by the end of April early May I will give you more information.

Hi Adam, some supporters want a stream of trophies coming regulary, i understand that, but realise that their are a lot of other teams that spend more than us and still struggle to win things, its not our God given right to win things and i get annoyed when its nearly always mentioned when our games are televised after all loads of teams have waited longer than what we have, our time will come again because i believe we are doing things the right way, Wenger can be annoying at times stubbon as well but to replace him with somebody else yeh i don’t think so, not for me.

Today with how things are and television camera’s everywhere you don’t expect it, rules have now been changed to help fix results what other sport has 2 answers for offsides, and handball, referee gives his decision and we all know its wrong but there is nothing you can do about it only highlight the fact but those twobit pundits cover it up all the time ffffing cheats

I do not agree with SP views. Just bcoz we turned the corner in the last 7 games does not mean that Arsenal is good. This is just papering over the cracks. It is temporary. AW cannot be forgiven for his last minute panic buys. Also Gunners is having a good run and is at 3rd currently is only on account of other teams also failing miserably. This team at best can be competing for sixth or seventh place, if other teams were not that pathetic. This season teams like ManU and Cheslea are really worse, yet ManU is at the top of the table and chelsea at 5th. AW should go as for him 4th place is like winning a trophy and the worst thing is all deluded gooners have been convinced by this con artist Mr. Bean who contradicts evry statement of his. Arsenal as a club will never win trophies till AW is sacked or till the time he leaves alongwith the board who are more interested in making money than winning trophies.

We have a good squad and they are getting better, usually at this time of year we start struggling i assume we may have a couple of misshaps but i think we will end up better than last year, Arsene Wenger may not be your personal favorite but i’m afraid he is mine and i believe he will turn us round and the trophies will start coming.

  179. scott

hi rico, it seems everyone has forgotten this is the 7th year in a row where Arsenal have not won a trophy. It is fine if all other fans including yourself are happy and convinced that qualifying for CL is like winning a trophy, an injured player returning back is a ‘new signing’. I am not convinced by this gimmick as Arsenal as a club needs to be more ambitious than playing for 3rd or 4th spot. Fans have very short memory and are ready to forgive AW just because we are in 3rd position from being somewhere in 6th or 7th position.

  184. scott

But, I honestly think we are turning a corner and we are not far off of seeing a successful side again, and by that i don’t mean winning everything, i mean we’ll start beating both mancs and the chavs and truly put ourselves forward and show that we have the balls to fight for a victory.

As everyone says, we have the basis of a cracking squad, just 2/3 additions in the summer will take us on so much further…

The only thing we know for sure is that if Wenger left or got the sack The Arsenal would carry on the same if Robin were to go, and another thing i know for sure is whatever happens at The Arsenal i will still be a lifetime supporter, COYG’S

Right Steve, no man is greater than the club.

Is this Arsenal FC or Arsene FC you all are supporting?

Are you prepared to go thru’ another 7 more years of mediocrity like “being 4th is akin to winning a trophy”?

You meant all our angst since moving to Emirates in 2006/07…we are prepared to accept “..we are GREAT..SEVEN WINS ON THE TROT!!”… if we are TIny Totts instead of being a marquee club like ManU or Real or BArca ..title-contender every season..and being amount favorites in every Cup competitions?

People….is Arsenal FC a marquee club having global appeal, mentioned in the same class as ManU or Real or Barca?

Or Arsenal FC just a 2nd tier European club playing in a local neighbourhood called Islington?

No sirrah..I would being blinded to our “Killed Seven with One Blow” fairy tale…but instead taking it as a “Last CHance Saloon” for Arsene Wenger to get his Youth Policy right by 2013/14 season..else he moves aside in 2014/15 and let a new manager to take Arsenal FC to another level…that is, being a marquee club.

Is Arsene Wenger to Arsenal FC what Brian Clough to Nottingham Forest? Well at least Cloughie won two no European Cups.

Let me remain all of you that Arsene Wenger is still obsessed in winning at least one CL CUp to cement his position as a great to win against billionaires’ toy-boys’ teams like Chelski and Abu Dhabi CIty, and beat Real and Barca in CL Cup will prove Arsene Wenger is a GREAT Manager..and not a French manager being at the right place, right time and got lucky during French FOotball Golden Era.

Arsene Wenger has 2 more seasons to prove that he had build a title-contender (mind you, I am not saying to win a title by 2013/14) of a team; a team based on “1970s Ajax Model of Team Building”, nurtured from Hale End Academy since 2006 to 2014, that for decades to come, Arsenal FC is one of the domineering football pwoer in England, and in Europe as well.

I do not judge Arsene Wenger on how many trophies and titles he ahd won; but I will judge him in 2013/14 as to what kind of legacy he had left behind with Arsenal FC as a marquee club.

That is what I want Arsenal FC to be in 2013/14, a marquee club with continuity instead of a “Camelot”,

i.e. “briefly, in the History of English Football, there was once an Invincibles…..but no more like Camelot”.

For now, just enjoy this emotional roller-coaster ride with our team – all peaks and troughs……… we are at the peak now..dreading the trough to come???

    Hi Merlin

It’s not about the wins on the trott so much, it’s about how we are playing to get them, the grit and never say die attitude seems to have snuck in over the last couple of months, that’s what counts…

Whether we win trophies or not is anyones guess but as long as we are looking like a team that is prepared to fight for them, then that’s got to be good….

I agree with what Merlin has mentioned above. As for Adam who is dying to know who I have in mind after Arsene Wenger. I cant think of anyone better than Dennis Bergamp who is the assistant coach at Ajax. He is young, dynamic and has Arsenal DNA in his blood and knows how Arsenal functions. He would be my ideal choice for coach at Arsenal. Wud definetly want to hear what other gooners think about our ever reliable dutchman.

Rico tbh, i love the current run of arsenal, but feel sad that this run is going to be used by that deluded frenchman to again not spend in summer and ensure that the next season also we go trophyless. So for me it wud be better if we were at 8th and AW gets the boot, so we can improve next year.

reality is, you nor any of us know for sure so why guess??

The Podoski deal is very close to being done, its reported that we have agreed terms with Vertonghen and talks are ongoing about M’Vila – I also read that another deal is nearly done, Holtby I think it is..

IF and yes IF that is all the truth, it doesn’t sound as if AW is not going to spend does it??

Personally, I’d be happy if we end up with only Podolski, Vertonghen and a keeper, as long as Theo, Song and RvP all sign new contracts…

  235. allezkev

    March 28, 2012 at 3:51pm

    That’s right Rico.
I appreciate those who want to sign M’Vila, and he is a great player who i would be delighted to see in an Arsenal shirt, but we have so many great young midfielders who can develop into top players, at the club now. Henderson being one of them.

  236. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 3:52pm

I’d still prefer Fellaini though AK, IF AW is after a DM….

But Song, Coq, Frimpong…. Who goes?

  237. Merlin96

    March 28, 2012 at 3:56pm

Yes Rico..Wenger’s gamble paid off in Arteta as he is that “invisible glue” that link-up the midfield and brought stability and calmness in the middle.

Not forgetting that ROsicky running into form…and displacing Ramsey is the primary key to our success..

Yes, 0-2 down to 5-2 Henry’s last gasp winner at Sunderland restored morale, self-belief and self-confidence…..

Not forgetting Mertesacker brought stability into Defence, bought us time, and fortunately, Vermaelen re-discovered his form.

Yes, not even during the French Spine – where November Blip was coined due to their mental fragility – displayed such ‘English” grits and that fierce “never-say-die” spirit that made players performing out of their skins…and beyond.

You know……2011 was like flat chapati……..and 2012 is like fluffy bread with those “experience” bought in August acting like yeast to make bread rises….

Put it this way, Arsene Wenger got lucky with those “economical” buys in August as we don’t even dare to dream that this TEAM gelled so well in starting in February 2012 with senior players like Rosicky, Van Persie, Song, Arteta, Walcott, Sagna, Vermaelen and Koscielny hitting form concurrently……ably assisted by youngsters like Oxlade-Chamberlain and Szczesny.

The only disappointment is Ramsey….and to a certain extent, injury-prone Gibbs, a poorish and goal-shy Gervinho..and lacking depth in the squad.

We should thanks our deprived neighbour for kick-starting this scintillating run..from 0-2 down to 5-2 winner……..and of course, earlier, that last gasp Henry’s winner against Sunderland…..

This TEAM is just like Frankestein’s Monster….assembeld with so many disparaging parts….and just needed a jolt of electricity to get it starting……

No Rico, beware of false dawn as you and I had gone thru’ so many “false dawns” since 2005/06 season… the hardest tasks are ahead of ’em… to beat lower ranking teams when you are odd-ons to beat ’em?
WIll all those past seven successes had gone to their heads that the ahrd parts were done and it is easy street from now..such that they only need to turn-up on the pitch to win?

Pride goes before a fall and I had detected such arrogance in the TEAM when they were 2-0 up against VIlla…lack that killer instinct to utterly destroy opponents with circket score but instead thought that 2-0 is sufficed…and started show-boating instead of retaining focus to go for the knock-out punch by getting the 3rd goal as quickly as possible….

That is what I fear for this TEAM when they face teams like QPR, Wigan, WOlves and Norwich without a ruthless killer isntinct to see ’em off with 3-0 in the first half………..allowing ’em to get into the game and score the odd goal to grab a point or a winner.

Till I see that mental focus for teh etnire match and killer instinct to match in this TEAM, I will remain nervous till 13-May to be safely in Top-4.

Job is not done yet and as Wenger said, the hardest part of the job is only starting this weekend……

    March 28, 2012 at 3:58pm

AK with what your saying re M’Vila i’d say he’s a proper defensive midfielder and Song isn’t…..! Regarding Coq n Frim yes M’Vila maybe would hinder their progress but then again if they good enough they’ll get games but as an alternative maybe it’s why we should get Vertonghen as he can play anywhere across the back and also as def mid so would not hinder Coq or Frim but still be good enough to cover for Song is Song gets injured…?

Unless also AW knows Song is going to go and is getting M’Vila in first unlike what he did last year..?

  241. scott

    March 28, 2012 at 4:01pm

rico, I feel that you are too naive to believe all rumours doing the round. Unless and until any of the so called signings do not appear on AFC site, you caanot call it a done deal. The same ruse is being used every year. Last year it was mata, this year it is Podolski, i will not be surprised, if Man city or cheski bag podolski and for Vertognen he may be go to spuds as according to AW, our defensive lineup is the strongest (refer Djourrou whose contact has been extended) so we need not add any defensive players.

  247. Merlin96

    March 28, 2012 at 4:09pm

Kev, I don’t rate Frimpong as I see him as just another Muamba with muscles.

Frimpong is just a decent squad member.

The future is Song, Coquelin, Arteta and Wishere (plus Henri Lansbury?) with Aneke and Jon Toral in 2 to 3 years time?

Perhaps, that is why Wenger is eyeing M’vila with Frimpong not making it as DCM?

Put it this way, if Song, Frimpong, Coquelin, WIlshere and Arteta can fulfil the “2” behind the ACM in 2012/13, why should we buy M’vila as one of those “4” will have to move to make space for M’vila?

A more serious problem is that we have only Rosciky to play ACM infront of this “2”. Ramsey is not ready and lack palymaking ability ands till lack that vision (and experience) to gell within this TEAM as the “Main Man” like Fabregas.

We need to buy an ACM like Rosicky ro Fabregas more than M’vila.

Otherwise, we have only oen rpoven ACM in Rosicky and hoping Song_Wilshere pairing will provide playmaking ability from deep.

I agree wath, JD’s feet would be out on his arse if I had my way!

Merlin, I hope you’re wrong about Frimpong. I think any every Arsenal fan is willing him to be good. He is Arsenal through and through. I hope he can calm down a bit and step up. He has certainly, in my opinion, shown signs that he is more than capable of doing so. But again, I will put my Koscielny for DM card well and truly on the table here! It would save us a few quid, and I’m sure he would be up to it. I just don’t like the way JV has been whoring himself out to all and sundry lately. He had a massive hard-on for Spurs when they were well ahead of us. Now he wants to come to us. Thanks, but no thanks.

    european press:
Arsenal will cut right on the roster, waiving players, so you can invest in contracts for next season.
To this end, Arsene Wenger (pictured) points to a specific group batteries costing 23 million pounds (more than 27.4 million euros) a year in wages to the club.
In the group are Andrei Arshavin (Zenit to borrow), Marouane Chamakh, Manuel Almunia (on loan to West Ham), Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner (loan to Sunderland), Denilson (on loan to Sao Paulo) and Carlos Vela (on loan to Real Sociedad) .
The most worrisome are Arshavin, who receives 75,000 pounds per week (89,458 euros) and Chamakh and Almunia, 60 000 pounds each (71,566 euros). The rest have a weekly salary of 50,000 pounds (59,650 euros).
With the release of payroll and sales fit, Wenger hopes to get enough money to make two large contracts and increase the salary of Robin van Persie – will earn 120 000 pounds a week (143,145 euros).
The agenda for Arsenal signings are Eden Hazard (Lille), Yann M’Vila (Rennes), Mario GΓΆtze (who renewed Wednesday with Borussia Dortmund), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) and Steven Nzonzi (Blackburn).

To be honest Dial, I’ve never heard him… But the smug picture of him on the station’s website id enough for me to give him a swerve. That, and the fact the station is gash.

    D52, i don’t, the man is a K**B!

I meant to add that rocky, sorry, didn’t mean to sound pompass, i eat fish….

By choice, i’d still be asleep as late as AK every morning πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Sorry the lawn is cut and stripey. Bergy as manager not for me a manager thats frightened to get on a plane and wants his players to show grit doesn’t work for me

  278. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 5:37pm

Steve – How can he be a manager and not gp on away game jaunts in Europe? If he’s a manager, he can’t set off a few days before a match by car can he?

    March 28, 2012 at 5:45pm

    Evening Steve…

rocky, the problem is we play so many games, we could be away at sunderland on a sunday at 4pm, then have to get to Moscow on the following Wednesday…

For what it’s worth, one day I would love Keown to be the manager with Denis as his assistant ….

  280. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 5:50pm

    I once loved Paddy, however…..

Guess that is after Fulham were denied a last minute penalty on Monday, but Manure were also denied one for a handball earlier in the match….

Mind you – we seldom get a penalty at OT either…. who does πŸ˜‰

  281. stevepalmer1

    March 28, 2012 at 5:57pm

Great player Rocky no doubt about that but could and should been a lot better, a player or manager is no good just for home, when we chase champions league we need a traveller and Wengers the best Gypsy i can think of

  282. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 6:03pm

True Rico. I don’t know why Vieira is suddenly all over the press. That annoys me nearly as much as “King” Kenny annoys me

  283. stevepalmer1

    March 28, 2012 at 6:07pm

I think there comes a time when legends can disappoint Paddy Bergy Petitt they are asked to comment when things are not going well but are never asked when we are playing well for players with experience of the English press they should know better. rule of thumb is when you have been asked don’t put your foot in it because it will always come back to bite you and fans never forget.

    March 28, 2012 at 6:11pm

He cheeses me off too rocky, what exactly does he do at Citeh, apart from collect a hefty wage? Platt is as bad – both utter twits now, every time they open their mouth…

As for Dalglish – he has a face that needs an occassional slap!

  286. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 6:13pm

Rico, I think Steve means that Bergy either missed big away games or by the time he got there and played, he wasn’t in the best of shapes. I still think he’s the best player to have ever pulled on the Arsenal shirt, but I remember it always annoyed the hell out of me when he didn’t play just because of travelling issues. If the A-Team guys could always get BA on the plane just by doping his milk, surely we could have got Bergy on a plane, albeit in a comatose state?!

  287. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 6:15pm

I want to slap Platt’s MASSIVE head every time I see it these days. That head, along with his shit-eating grin really irk me.

  288. stevepalmer1

    March 28, 2012 at 6:19pm

Rico sorry but a stay at home player is not any good to you when he leaves gaps when you play abroad i class great players that travel Dennis was briliant but had he did the same all over he may of been a world travelled great

    March 28, 2012 at 6:23pm

Ah but it didn’t bother me too much – the CL is last on my wish list πŸ˜†

For me too rocky, the best ever…. πŸ˜› re the A Team….

I understand where you are coming from though Steve…

  290. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 6:24pm

Rico – Was it last on your wish list when we were 1-0 up in Paris….?

  291. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 6:26pm

For sure it wasn’t, we were there and playing and i always want us to win rocky, but as i posted earlier, i’d much rather we win the PL and FA Cup than the CL…

We would have won that night but for Mad Jens and we would have kept Sir Bobby for another year or two too….

  292. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 6:35pm

Wow Rico…. It’s very rare that we disagree on things! For me, the FA Cup is a poor relation compared to the PL & CL. I know it shouldn’t be, as people keep banging on about the magic of the FA Cup and how amazing it is, but over the years, I’ve been less and less excited by it. No idea why, but I have.

  293. stevepalmer1

    March 28, 2012 at 6:39pm

Rico, I honestly don’t think we would win the champions league were we to go through to the final, i see the champion league much like the Eurovision song contest, our faces don’t fit and thats that, look at the pallava with qualifying two players suspended and the Manager banned even before a game was played who else in the history of the champions league has had anything like that happen

  294. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 6:40pm

It’s good to disagree though rocky, we all have our our own views and here we can rant and rave about them :)

I think for me it’s just about being the best of British first and foremost and the CL is a fix πŸ˜‰

Don’t get me wrong though, I wouldn’t mind if we won the CL πŸ˜‰

  295. rockyrocastle07

    March 28, 2012 at 6:41pm

It would be nice to win it, and rub the Chavs noses in it!

  296. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 6:43pm

Maybe that’s why i feel the way i do about the CL Steve, look at last season, we were about to beat Barca and go on through but no, some knob with a whistle changed all that…..

I wonder who paid Bendy for his last minute miss??

We all know that it’s not just the FA who dislike us, Platter and Platinni are equally as bad…

Hiya folks. Back from a recovery session today. Very relaxing it was. But it was intended to keep the momentum going into the next game.

I see that I missed a lot of fun today.

Scott has not answered my question.

Shades of someone who throws stones and hides his hand.

You still need to grow up Sir AK. I guess that W.A.T.H fell about the floor laughing. For a man still in his forties πŸ˜‰ that is saying something.

Right mates. Seems as if there is no one here.

    Cu all tomorrow.

Now off to dream that Barton has turned up at the QPR vs AFC game and grabs Hughes from the neck after the latter told him off for misbehaviour. The ref then decides to send them off to the stands while AFC continue to enlarge the GAP between them and the scum from the slum to 5 points.

Shame to see you all ganging up on one person over Wenger’s possible replacement. Whether it is the right time to see him go is one thing but to suggest that he couldnt be replaced is another. I have seen 10 managers in my time , 11 if you count Houston . No one person is irreplaceable and there are people out there that could do the job although as I say it may not be the right time now, we must be realistic Wenger’s contract is up soon and he may well decide not to renew then we will have no choice.

  304. Scott From Oz

    March 28, 2012 at 7:51pm

    Morning all.
    Scott from Le Grove,hey.
Let me just say,Scott from Le Grove, that when I do come over there for a visit,I hope you meet me at Heathrow.
My actions may lead to me being thrown out of the country, but It will be worth it.
Scott from Le Grove, when I posted on that site a few months back, supporting the club and Wenger, and questioning the motives of the incestuous lot who are Le Grove, you began the little chorus of chanting that had me labelled c**t.
Why was I labelled a c**t,because I dared to disagree.
    I didn’t abuse anyone,just gave an opinion.
The funny thing is,after copping hours of abuse whilst I was tucked away in bed,I was banned for being l a trouble maker.
Scott from Le Grove, when you look up from the floor, remember, its Scott from Oz who put you there, and don’t ever, ever call ma a c**t again, else you may cop another.
Sorry Rico, but I would not consider myself a man if I never gave this piece of absolute shit that message.
Hours these areseholes went on for, calling me all names under the sun when, being here in Oz,I was asleep, yet I am the trouble maker.
I may for up,but I’ve never called people names on a forum.
Pack of arseholes, each and every one of them.
On any forum on any topic, you get at least a small percentage of people going against the tide.
Not on Le Grove……you get banned!!!!
Ok,I actually do feel much better…that’s been coming a while.
    Good morning TRUE Gooners.
How are we this evening(over there).

  305. Scott From Oz

    March 28, 2012 at 7:56pm

Potter,we can’t replace Wenger for the sake of it.
If we can bring somebody better in,then by all means.
    There’s only on,imo…..Guardiola.
As for them ganging up on him,he mouthed off then didn’t back it up……tell us how he should be handled.
Him and his mates on Le Grove are the scum of the earth, and deserve no better.
If you’d seen these cretins gang up on me,again, while I was sleeping, maybe you’d think differently.

    potter –

it wasn’t a case of ganging up on one person, i personally was just asking for scott to justify his reason right now to want wenger out right now…

  310. Lee

    March 28, 2012 at 8:05pm

Potter, I too have seen lots of managers….ganging up, not sure that’s what’s happening but DB10 is not a replacement for AW, right now!!!!

  311. Scott From Oz

    March 28, 2012 at 8:06pm

Rico, his reason is hes a Le Grover…..I am sure they have a roster system, where each on gets on here periodically.

  312. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 8:07pm

Going on from that, no-one suggested that wenger isn’t replaceable, of course he is as no player or manager is bigger than our club…

as devil said, no matter who comes and goes, Arsenal will always stand, move on and remain Arsenal….

the club we all love and support

  313. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 8:09pm

  314. W.A.T.H

    March 28, 2012 at 8:11pm

Can’t see anyone was ganged up on actually…. when you talk shit expect to get replies simple as that…. If your going to mention something back it up, don’t just ignore questions back at you which is what happened…! Agreed Potter there are people out there to take over from Wenger he’s not the be all and end all thats for sure just like no single player but if your gonna have a pop at the bloke be constructive and come up with alternatives that make sense…! Not difficult is it..!

    Morning Scott….From Oz… πŸ˜‰

  315. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 8:11pm

Lee, i don’t think DB is the answer right now either, my own view is that we need an arsenal man, a keown or bould with an assistant like DB or Henry…

But, i still believe we are turning a corner, one more summer for AW imho….

  316. Scott From Oz

    March 28, 2012 at 8:12pm

    Exactly right Rico.
If Wenger went tomorrow,I’d support the bloke in charge regardless.
It’s just a pity the Wenger bashers can’t do the same.

  317. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 8:12pm

You don’t know he’s a Le Grover Scott, nor do I….

And, tbh i don’t care, just wanted scott to justify his comment about wenger out… 7 years without a trophy doesn’t cut….

  318. Scott From Oz

    March 28, 2012 at 8:16pm

    He is Rico.

  319. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 8:20pm

I don’t care Scott, i don’t care where our bloggers come from, we all nip on other blogs sometimes, i’d hate to be labelled as a HH’r…

scott may think it’s best for wenger to go, that’s his opinion and he’s entitled to it but why is the question that wasn’t answered and as Wath said earlier, Wenger has to take a lot of blame for having a squad that can’t/won’t compete, it’s his job to ensure we do, but the lame old excuse of 7 years without a trophy is cack imho…

  320. Scott From Oz

    March 28, 2012 at 8:30pm

I agree Rico,I just don’t like the fact that people come in to cause some crap then disappear.
The reason this is a good forum is everyone can voice an opinion and there’s no calling people c**ts for no other reason than they disagree.
I was never so pissed off.

  321. rico

    March 28, 2012 at 8:35pm

Thank goodness it doesn’t happen often Scott πŸ˜‰

But we have to also respect others views, regardless of what they are….

Maybe, and hopefully scott will come back and have a debate, that’s what all the blogs are set up for….

but yes, calling someone a ********* just because they don’t agree, isn’t my way of thinking either….

Not sure i agree with you re; Frimpong.
I think there is more to his game than you give him credit.
He really impressed me with the way that he became the major force in the Wolves midfield, in a very short space of time.
And his play for them wasn’t all about muscle, but i would say more technical. He suprisex me will the skill that he showed. It’s such a shame he got injured as there is no knowing how much he would have improved by now if he had stayed fit.

    Morning all,
Got an early start today so won’t be around till late but just wanted to pick up on breaking news.
Patrick Viera has said that referee’s are favouring Manchester United, he said that getting decisions against united is not very easy. The FA are bent no doubt about that, Viera will no doubt get his hand slapped but he also stated that top european teams are also favoured in home games. Blinding tell us something we didn’t know. The football federations have an agenda, they skim money of of the the football and orchastrate results, clean up football and make it fair for all.

  330. stevepalmer1

    March 29, 2012 at 7:13am

Got to run, but just to remind you all that Arsene Wengers Inquirery about his Rant at a referee in the tunnel after Arsenals 3.0 win against AC Milan comes up today, if found guilty and we do make it into the champions league next season, could see us without our manager in the first leg, (They are Jokeing) can this possibly happen again. They don’t like us thats for sure have a good day all.

  331. Scott From Oz

    March 29, 2012 at 8:39am

    Steve,Viera is a genius.

UTD getting favours,Arsenal getting shit……..who’d have thought?

  332. Scott From Oz
