Ex Spurs man is definitely on his way to The Emirates……

Ok, it’s Friday and after our fantastic victory on Wednesday night, I thought just a bit of  fun today.

Come on Mr Official... All I want is one win, please help me .......

Ex Spurs manager, Martin Jol brings his Fulham side to The Emirates tomorrow for another evening kick off. Jol has never managed a league victory against us I think in all  his time of managing our noisy neighbours between 2004-07. I can’t see that there is a reason to think that record will change either, just because he has switched sides of London…..

We’ll worry about that match tomorrow eh?

Today is about a quick round-up of the gossip and stuff from the ever not so reliable journalists that get paid so much money to ‘guess’.

One bit of interesting news the Daily Mail broke yesterday and that involves the introduction of technology into the game. Football Association general secretary Alex Horne has said goal-line technology could be used in the Premier League as early as next season, if of course FIFA give the seal of approval.

Long way for that to go yet……

The same paper reports that we are one of many top sides who are interested in signing the new kid on the block – that is 15-year-old Spaniard Javier Gonzalez who has scored an amazing 20 goals in just seven games for Laredo SD’s youth team. Old Red nose is the odds on favourite to get his signature at the moment, well good luck to him, we need another kid like a hole in the head, especially a Spanish one who will one day want to go and play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid!!

Talking of Spain, Steve Bould has been talking about the home-grown talent, not only at Arsenal but in England and he believes we have what it takes to match them.

I really do believe that this country should be producing the best players in the world with the amount of money and facilities we have over here now.

The way the sums are going, we’re all going to have to produce players. And why shouldn’t we all? That’s our jobs.

We should be looking towards another 10 years. We can be another Spain – there should be no reason why not.

We only have to look list of players in our youth set up to realise he is perhaps not far off the mark but sadly, each season we think the next player is going to be ready to burst onto the Arsenal scene, they seem to be sold on.

They may have the ability but do the English players always have the right attitude to go on and do what their Spanish counterparts do?

There are a few that would suggest not……

Titbits:

Owen Coyle wants any bids for Gary Cahill to be made early in January and reports suggest £8 Million would be enough to secure the player, isn’t that what Wenger offered in the summer?

Lille have reportedly slapped a £43M price tag on Eden Hazard so that pretty much rules us out and Dortmund have confirmed that Goetze is staying put, at least until the summer.

Bit of injury news to end with and thankfully there isn’t any after the midweek game. Diaby hasn’t suffered any set-back and Kosceinly was subbed due to tiredness so he should be ok for tomorrow. Jenkinson should return in three weeks and Gibbs is penciled in for four weeks.

That’s it folks – you all have a good day all…..

Morning all, another Friday is here already….

  2. TT says:

    Morning all

Three points on Saturday and some of the teams above us are playing each other so we are going to gain some ground on someone:)

  3. rico says:

    Morning TT

newcastle and the chavs i reckon

  4. rico says:

    maybe even the dippers too….

  5. TT says:

The dippers and shitty I think…

  6. TT says:

win tomorrow and we gain on two teams at least :)

  7. rico says:

You reckon citeh and the dippers will draw?

This kind of game can be tricky for us, especially after the CL, will Wenger rotate and rest RvP?

  8. rico says:

i hoping west brom can shock the noisy neighbours….

  9. TT says:

Not sure about the dippers shitty rico but if chelsky and newcastle are playing like you said then we will def gain on two teams and you never know what will happen in the other games :)

  10. rico says:

chavs are in a mess, lots of talk about their manager going, pressure is on and they may rest too many big names for their home fixture against wolves becasue they need a win in a couple of days time ;)

as long as we can secure a victory, like you say, we have to gain points on one, maybe two teams above us.. :)

  11. rico says:

Actually, i wouldn’t be too surprised to see Newcastle get something at the old toilet….

  12. goonster says:

Morning guys, martin jol owe us a whupping. Hey what happened to “sparky”

  13. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all
Nice one Rico, Touchline technology again springs up. I did read that Arsene Wenger wanted to use the technology for the Emirates cup but Fifa wouldn’t alow it, Wenger has always been a bit before his time, and i bet he saw it coming, Its about time people realised that FIFA will never agree to it, as it takes the power out of their hands, and they wouldn’t want that.

  14. rico says:

Morning goonster, sparky is unemployed, well, trying to be a pundit on ITV i think….

  15. EastSidePaul says:

Any chance the game in on TV tomorrow??
Would like to see goal line technology introduced, and for penalty decisions.

  16. rico says:

    Morning Steve –

maybe Splatter will think differently this time around, try and smooth a few feathers after his recent gaff…

I think it’s needed but how far they take the decision making is poss one of the biggest problems. Maybe the goal line first and then introduce other things in slowly…

You are spot on re The Ems cup…

  17. stevepalmer1 says:

I would be suprised if Wenger changes the team that much for Saturday, he seems to have realised that team spirit is built up on victories like the other night, The team are riding high at the moment and they all want to play, subs can be used in the latter stages but the enthusiasm will continue. i hope he continues with that tactic.

  18. Rocastle says:

Bonjour peeps, long time no…blah blah blah.

Great post, well beat the cottagers (ahem) 4-1 tomorrow. We always beat them 4-1.

And the spuds have got to drop some points soon, talkshite were bigging up their title chances last weekend?! Obviously as they don’t want to upset ‘friend of the show’ arry.

But seriously, have I warped back into november 1960??!!

Anyway I’m off to carnaby street for some new winkle pickers, get the new cliff and the shadows LP and meet up with a few ‘cats’ for a frothy coffee. Groooovy!!

  19. stevepalmer1 says:

Things to do, catch you later

  20. rico says:

I hope he doesn’t rotate too much either Steve, 1 or 2, but no more…

Morning rocastle, long time and all that….

4-1, now someone lese predicted that scoreline this morning :)

LP, you are showing your age ;)

  21. EastSidePaul says:

I love how spurs finally string a couple wins together, and then start talking about title chances, how deluded can you get?

  22. Rocastle says:

    They’ve been deluded since 1961!

  23. ogban says:

Field the strongest side against Fulham then give some players a rest mid-week.
Say, with Wilshere do we need to pay over the odds for a Goetze or Harzard?

  24. rico says:

    Very deluded Esp….

Rocastle, you sure it wasn’t before that ;)

  25. rico says:

    Hi ogban, welcome…

Agree, the PL is what we want to win, or come as near to the top as we possibly can and there is no reason that can’t be at least second – i have a feeling he may play a stronger side against Citeh, he’ll want to win that one….

  26. EastSidePaul says:

I still think we’ll see Gourcuff or M’vila join in Jan, Wenger tried to buy them late in the summer, can’t see him leaving it at that.

A bad start to the season and suddenly spurs are better than us, very deluded!

  27. rico says:

I still think we’ll see Cahill arrive too – in fact all three and a goal scorer and we’d def win something….

Maybe all the goetze etc stuff is all just a red herring….

  28. EastSidePaul says:

Would love to see Cahill join, lets just offer 10m get it over with and have another quality defender.

  29. rico says:

Exactly, Jan 1st, wrap it up and move on to the next…. but the Chavs are lurking….

  30. TT says:

I am still seeing people clamor for Cahill! Why? What has he done to set the world on fire? Cahill only thing he has over our current # 3 top CB’s is that he is English. He has nothing other on Kozzer, Merts and Verminator. Spending 10 million on Cahill for him to sit on the bence for 50 % of the time is NOT going to make us better. On the contrary it will weaken us as the money and the wages spent on him will not be there for a attacking midfielder or a top striker and that’s where we need the additions. Also buying Cahill will again lessen the money we can offer Song, Theo and RvP to sign new contracts. IMHO we need a top ne CB at this moment like a hole in the head. our needs lie elsewhere.

  31. rico says:

I just think we need 4 quality CH’s and that’s why i hope we sign him, i have little faith in JD and Merts is still showing a few dodgy moments…..

    I’m a big fan of his :)

  32. TT says:

God I give up…..we need a striker so lets go out and buy a CB ;) Meh No one has ever given me any logical reason why we need 4 good center back but only 1 striker. You want a good CB to get us to 4 rico? Ok go out and buy Vertonghen. He is a CB with Ajax, a better CB than Cahill will ever be, he is versatile as he can play across the defense and also in midfield and on occasions when I have seen him play he has made verminator look soft…

  33. rico says:

    TT

We need both, and if Song goes, we need to replace him properly and someone who can create more chances…

Ok, ok, stop going on at me ;) ;)

Vertoghen would do, but we definately need one ..

  34. rico says:

Park, Chamberlain, Gervinho Walcott, Chamakh, Ryo and RvP…

They are all listed as strikers in the squad – trouble is, they either get played as wingers, they are crap (chamakh) or they just don’t get played……

  35. TT says:

Agree so lets go out and buy a top striker to help RvP…along with a playmaker :)

  36. EastSidePaul says:

Really would like to see Ryo get some minutes on the pitch!

  37. TT says:

He is injured ESP, will be back in 2 to 4 weeks I think.

  38. rico says:

Deal, 4 players in Jan and bobs your uncle ;)

    Esp – he’s injured i think :(

  39. W.A.T.H says:

We don’t need a playmaker TT we got Jack…….! :-)

I’d get Vertonghen though for sure as he can play anywhere along the back four and we do know how short we are when we normally get hit with injuries it’s bit us on the arse year after year.

I’d also 100% get another goalscorere to rotate help share the load with RVP…!

    Afternoon all :D

  40. rico says:

    Afternoon Wath

You reckon Jack going to come back without having setbacks?

I’d rather Wenger plays his return very carefully, them young bones of his need to heal properly….

Keown reckons we should sign Henry for the rest of the season….

  41. goonster says:

Hi TT, spot on with the cahill crap. He’s not better than what we have now. Besides we need a LB not a CB gibbo is too fragile and injury prone. Rico wants cahill cause she thinks he’s cute. Hey rico that ll be cheating on robin don’t you think? He might be forced to take his thigh away from ya!

  42. TT says:

I agree about Jack being play maker wath but there is room for more than one play maker in a team, someone that can open up defenses and provide short and long distance killer passes.

Hazard or Gotze spring to mind…or someone to replace Song as a DM and push him further up ;) there we would have our Messi so we would be sorted :)

  43. W.A.T.H says:

Well, we got Arteta, Aaron and Rosicky that can also act the playmaker role, Jack just gives us a higher tempo I think something the others do lack…!. I’d still take M’Vila anyday of the week over Song, he’s to eratic and irresponsible as shown by the gola we conceded the other night, a great game ruined by stupiness…! How many times though…! not the first. Critical maybe but what when it really matters and it’s o-o or 1-1 and he does the same thing..?

  44. goonster says:

Hey WATH get off his back. He did play the ball back to jd who wasn’t alert. He’s too slow and lumbers a lot. Ship him on I say. He’s maybe the oldest player with us currently . How long has he been with us now?

  45. rico says:

goonster, cahill is not at all cute ;)

  46. TT says:

goonster JD was not in a good position to receive the ball, wath is correct that had Song not dallied on the ball and sent it up field or into the stand we would not have conceded.

As for Arteta and Rosicky I disagree wath, neither is what i would call a play maker, Ramsey would come closer IMO but all lack the lil magic that Jack and top play makers have…..creating something out of nothing.

  47. rico says:

Wath, that final few mad moments ruined what was a top notch performance by Song, that should have gone to row z….

  48. goonster says:

I know TT just wanna rile him up a bit. He(WATH) owe me a serious ass whupping.

  49. goonster says:

Rico, you don’t say! So why do you like him then? Just curious. Just heard thierry can still run a 100 meters in less than 11 seconds! Sign him up arsene. We could use him when gervinho heads off to the ACON. God to see TH14 running again in the famous red and white. Now that brings tears to my eyes. I miss the invincibles!

  50. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Good morning!
I’d like to share your previsions for tomorrow but I’m always afraid of two consecutive games in the same week with minus then 3 days break and when line-up probably with the same team and versus a team completely fresh.
of course, fortuantely for us we are in a strong moment in all point of views. However, Fulham,Newcaste and spurs didn’t play this week. Even chelsea is worst because play early then us, M. Citu and M.United have more break time then us. Well, wait and see.
In other sense, I’m starting to believe AW don’t go to the market on January. A risk, again, like in the past. The goals everybody know.

I read somewhere the big importance of be in CL for Arsenal (and for all clubs…) Financial interest. For instance: win he european League a club receive the equal money of a Club be in the last 16th of the Champions League. And don’t forget we win money in a victory in all the games in the Cl … so a target for every year!

  51. TT says:

I miss them to goonster……….. but yesterday is dead and gone..

  52. rico says:

goonster – i just think he is the next best english central defender, he’s getting to the right age – i know not all will agree with me but i’d like to see a bit of english grit in side…

He also scores a few goals…

Again, many will disagree but Merts has far from convinced me either…. He’d be in only for the bigger sides and hoofers of the ball…

  53. goonster says:

Yeah TT but boy what memories they still evoke in me. Those were the days. what I ll give to have them all back. Mad jens lauren big sol toure cole gilberto viera ljunberg pires bergy and henry. That ll always be the greatest team of all time. Don’t give a hoot about shitty’s squad. They be got nothing on that team.

  54. rico says:

    Hi JM

My fear is that because of our game in the week he will rotate, that in itself could upset the balance of our side, we have seen it so many times before.

Wouldn’t be at all surprsied to see RvP on the bench and either Park or Chamakh start…..

  55. goonster says:

Rico move cahill to a more tactical league where the ball barely leaves the ground and see what happens. BFG ll come good. This time last year a whole lot of people knocked kozzer down calling him shit and all. Some mug over at legrove even calls himself koshienly is shit. Now who’s shit? Arsenal fans are too fickle it hurts.

  56. rico says:

We all just see things in football differently goonster – put Cahill in a good sie and he’ll show his worth i’m sure…

His game has dipped a bit this season but Bolton are in a mess, and I think his game has dropped as he wanted out in the summer.. we have seen it happen with our players…..

There is a huge difference with Kos and Merts, Kos came from france having never played at the level, he’d never represented his country etc and he’s still young and learning.

Merts however is an experienced international having played in a tough league, the mistakes he is making a basic school boy errors, not ones that a man of his staute should be making…

  57. goonster says:

Rico cahill was groomed by megson if I remember correctly. Can a turd teach anything good? Please, cahill ll be like a man deprived of his sight in a more tactical league and not our kick and rush EPL. Little wonder very few english players ever venture out of these shores.

  58. rico says:

Not really goonster, he was out for quite a while when Megson was the manager but it doesn’t matter who coached him it’s about what is inside the player……

  59. goonster says:

Well sorry mama bear we don’t need him. We ve got bartley coming back next season. So there you have it. Your english spine*winks*

  60. Jay says:

East Side Spurs bit of a rich comment coming from you guys, you havent beaten us in the league in 4 attempts, you are 3 points below us and we have a game in hand, you havent played City and you just got through a piss poor group with a load of average performances yet I heard you guys talking about going all the way.

    Thats deluded

Most spurs fan haven’t said we will win the league, we fancy ourselves to finish 3rd, and why not we have beat you and Liverpool and we sit in 3rd now.

You have a piss poor team getting carried by a miracle worker in Van Persie, we are getting goals from all over the pitch and are reliant on 6 players instead of 1 like you.

ASK ANY FAN ACROSS THE COUNTRY WHO THEY BELIEVE HAS A BETTER TEAM OUT OF ARSENAL AND SPURS AND THEY WILL ALL GIVE SPURS AS THE ANSWER

You are the deluded ones, beating Norwich 2-1 doesnt make you top 4 favourites

  61. goonster says:

When’s the game rico? Goal.com reckons it ll be a 1:1 draw. Saying cause we played a high intensity game against BD during the week most of our players should be knackered. The question is wasn’t fulham involved in the europa league. Sensational journalism. pah!

  62. rico says:

Ha ha goonster, and i thought you didn’t want us to rely on kids ;)

  63. goonster says:

For fifth choice maam fifth choice.

  64. rico says:

5.30 uk time – don’t think Fulham have played in the week though…

See you in May Jay, that’s when will we know for definate, any side can sit up the top at some stage, it’s the ending that counts – and over the years and years gone by, we have always had to look behind us to see where your lot finish….

Now, best you pop off and talk tiny totts on one of your own blogs, thanks….

  65. rico says:

Ah yes, Bartley 5th choice behind TV, Kos, Cahill and Merts :)

  66. goonster says:

Did I hear right did that scummer just say what I thought I heard him say? We ve haven’t beaten them in four attempts? Hey jay have you been living under a rock all this time? You won two games since like forever and you think you ve arrived? The little prick talking about how we haven’t played city. Have you played the chavs? You know what, you re not worth it. You and your band of “abominables” are running scared cause the mighty arsenal is back and kicking. You re feeling the heat ain’t ya? Wait for it. we meet again soon, don’t we? Retarded bunch.

  67. goonster says:

No mama bear no cahill! Sheesh. Wenger won’t be signing a CB for years to come. You had better brace up for that.

  68. W.A.T.H says:

Good comment Jay we ain’t beat you in 4 tries……. makes up for the ten years you were total crap then eh and the 22 games you didnt beat us, come back then….! You lot always give it the big un when you have a few good results then the wheels come flying off and then you vanish back into the swamp til the nest season and the next lot of drivel about actually winning something….! You have a decent team for a change make that a very long time and all of a sudden as you’ve had nothing to crow about for decades you think your better than us…! Time will tell…! 50yrs and counting… Forever in our Shadow….!

  69. goonster says:

    You said it WATH….

  70. rico says:

    goonster :P

Spot on Wath, thought you might appear… ;)

  71. W.A.T.H says:

Mouthy swampies riding on the back of a few good results…! what ever next….!.

They normally come crashing down with the Christmas decorations…!

  72. rico says:

:P Roll on the 5th Jan then ;)

  73. Lee says:

Black and white TV’s last time you won anything of relevance!!!

  74. goonster says:

Took that out of my mouth lee….was gonna say that. mandela in jail the last time they won a major trophy.

  75. rico says:

Thought you were by the seaside Lee ;)

  76. Jay says:

W.A.T.H and Rico, yes boys what I am saying is we are currently better than you, yes you have been better in the past.

Currently though we are better, which part of that don’t you understand, I am not feeling the heat from Arsenal at all please, we are comfortably third best team in the league, the only reason I came on this blog was because I use newsnow and Spurs was in the headline so popped up on our page.

I wouldn’t waste my time coming on here, I generally believed you would be talking about how disappointed you are with being 7th in the league, turns out your all delighted with Arsenal and believe they are a great side.

If this is the case why are you sitting in 7th, can’t be that great.

Yes we will see in May and yes lets wait until we meet, you said this when we played you at the Lane and you guys lost 2-1 again.

  77. allezkev says:

    Don’t feed the Trolls

  78. devilgunner says:

JAY said “You are the deluded ones, beating Norwich 2-1 doesnt make you top 4 favourites”

Neither being 3rd at the moment makes you top for favourite. The heat has not started yet. TROLL

  79. devilgunner says:

    gd afternoon guys and chicks.

  80. Jay says:

    Lee black and white TV’s

You must be struggling in this resession if you can’t afford a colour TV, last time we won something was 2008, more recently than you, and before you write off the League Cup didnt 40,000 of you mongs travel to Wembley in February to lose to Birmingham with ya strongest team out.

I am a proper football fan, I knew you had better players previously but how you can say you have the better team now baffles me.
VDVaart, Bale, Parker, Modric, Adebayor, King, Kaboul, Ekotto and Walker would all start if any of these individuals was in your squad tomorrow.

    But of course your Arsenal
Santos must be better than Ekotto
Gervinho is better than Bale right
    Arteta is better than Modric
    Ramsay better than VDVaart
    Jenkinson better than Walker
oh and Mertesacker pisses all over King

Read it back and you will hear how stupid it sounds,

Szcielsny (apart from when Walkers shooting), VPerse and Vermealan are good beyond that your cack

  81. Jay says:

I am taking this blog over biatches ;0

Trolls get more hoes than Arsenal get goals

  82. rico says:

Jay, if we all spouted about where we were in the league after only a couple months, how sad we would we all be, it’s called a season because it;s about who finishes where after ten months…

Mind you, must be nice to see your side up in the top four, make the most of it i say….

  83. devilgunner says:

    Jay rhymes with many words……
    Bay
    Day
    Fay
    Gay
    Hay
    Kay
    Lay
    May
    Nay
    Pay
    Ray
    Say
    Way

Obviously there are others. I think one of the above suits you best. Up to you to decide Scum Troll.

  84. rico says:

    Afternoon DG and AK….

  85. devilgunner says:

Where you around in 1989 Jay?

In the last second of the last game with the last shot. That was the end of the season not November, Scum Troll.

  86. devilgunner says:

Afternoon Rico. Got to go and get some insect killing spray. There is a creepy scum insect buzzing around.

  87. rico says:

You are spot on Jay, Merts would piss all over King, so would most Gooners ;)

  88. rico says:

Bleach DG, that’s the best thing to kills nasty germs….

As AK syas, lets not feed the troll, poor lad has probably got to get home before it’s dark….

  89. devilgunner says:

Why waste the piss on King?????

He is not even worth that!!!

  90. rico says:

Absolutely, so let’s get back to us….

Where did AK go, that was a short visit….

  91. goonster says:

Is he still around? Goddamn somebody put that scum out of his misery. Hey devil possess him or something.

  92. agirlagunner says:

Zzz zzz zzz. How annoying are gnats, rico? ;) :D

Be gentle, folks! Some teams haven’t enough fans to actually get their own blogs going. Ahaha.

    Oh and boo!!

  93. rico says:

    Little things goonster, little things…..

Boo to you agag, gnats are very annoying ;)

  94. devilgunner says:

AGGGGAAAAGGGGGGG Good to see you back. Where the hell have you been?? No you were not in Hell….did not see you there.

  95. rico says:

DG, agag has been holidaying, very unusual for her ;) ;)

  96. goonster says:

Very funny DG…..who ll take you in hell? That’s a mighty rocking place fella. Too good for folks like ya!

  97. agirlagunner says:

rico, especially gnts that assume you’re a boy, eh? :D

DG! I like warm climes but I don’t like it that hot! I was on my nth hols this year. ;) And then I was a little under the weather, too many pink drinks, I reckon oh oh oh and I’m still recovering from sticker shock at check-out! Hah!

  98. rico says:

    Exactly agag ;)

    whats sticker shock??

  99. Joaquim moreira says:

    hi… from http://www.eurosport.com
    RVP hitting Henry-esque heights

Robin van Persie Arsenal’s defeat of Borussia Dortmund was, optimistically, the night when the Gunners were hoping to catch a glimpse of the future in the shape of Mario Goetze. Instead they got yet another dazzling reminder of who is driving their present.
The victory that confirmed qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League left Early Doors wondering if there is a striker anywhere in world football who is living as gloriously in the moment, and loving it quite as spectacularly, as Robin van Persie.
A leaping header – which crept across the line following a quite wonderful assist from Alex Song as the midfielder channelled the spirit of Garrincha for a fleeting couple of seconds – was followed by a close-range finish from Thomas Vermaelen’s flick-on from a corner as the Dutchman took his tally for his club to a deeply impressive 12 in his past eight games, and to 21 for the season for both club and country.
ED is getting rather used to saying this, but yet again it was the Arsenal captain who proved the talisman his side required in an otherwise unspectacular performance from the North Londoners.
Many questioned Wenger’s decision to install Van Persie as his new captain; many also questioned the decision to deploy as a lone striker a player that many sentimentalists expected to be the long-term replacement for Dennis Bergkamp, mainly due to his nationality of course.
But Van Persie is no Bergkamp. Instead, his prolific strike-rate and ability to manoeuvre the ball in all areas of the pitch, leaving his natural position to contribute to the build-up as well as finishing off moves, is more reminiscent of Thierry Henry.
That may be a daunting comparison to make, but Arsenal have not had a striker in this rich a vein of form since the smouldering Frenchman sauntered off to Barcelona in 2007, and ruthlessly extinguished ED’s strongest man crush. It was certainly fitting that Henry was back on Wednesday night, sitting along side his buddy Roger Federer, to watch the heir to his throne.
Dortmund boss Juergen Klopp certainly seemed smitten with Arsenal’s current captain in his post-match press conference, stating: “Van Persie’s performance tonight was just unbelievable. He is such a player … is he the best in Europe? Certainly one of the best. I’ve hardly ever seen a player who plays so deep in midfield and then is such a danger in the box.”
Wenger, now well versed in being effusive in his praise of the Dutchman, added: “He is in a period where of course he doesn’t have to look for goals – they just come naturally for him. He is always in the right place at the right moment and he got two goals again tonight from positions that look easy but they are not. He just understands the game so well.
“At the moment I believe that Robin is an exceptional player. He takes advantage of our offensive style from the wings. We create a lot of chances but I don’t deny that at the moment he is the one who scores all the goals. We hope we can keep him fit and with us for a long time.”
Not only did Van Persie’s brace ensure qualification, but the hard-fought victory ensured Arsenal top their Champions League group with one match to spare, just 12 months after they surrendered top spot in farcical circumstances and were inevitably punished when being drawn against Barcelona in the last 16.
Counter-intuitively after a summer in which they suffered significant trauma to their playing staff, it is Arsenal alone of the English clubs who have qualified so far. The more lauded talents at Manchester City, Manchester United and, to a lesser extent, Chelsea, are all yet to do so and face nervy evenings when the group stage concludes, City and Chelsea in particular.
From a club mired in crisis, defeated 8-2 at Old Trafford, Arsene Wenger has orchestrated a highly impressive turnaround. However, ED would sound a cautionary note regarding Wednesday’s match. After all, this victory was only achieved after Dortmund lost two of their starting XI to injury: energetic midfielder Sven Bender and the man many, including Wenger, were very keen to have a look at – Goetze.
Wenger famously has scouts traversing the globe, searching in every nook and cranny in every continent for youngsters he can throw into the Carling Cup with gusto. He is renowned for it. Well, that and myopia. But on Wednesday he had to only look 30 yards to cast his eyes over a 19-year-old who is mentioned ever more frequently in conjunction with a move to Emirates Stadium.
Sadly for Wenger, Goetze and indeed anyone with a passing interest in football, Germany’s latest sensation lasted just 29 minutes, his contribution limited to a couple of neat touches before a collision with the impenetrable Song left him with a thigh injury.
Though Wenger seemingly collects miniature playmakers like a nerd collects stamps – obsessively, meticulously – this was not enough of a cameo to give any real insight as to whether Arsenal will indeed attempt to tempt Goetze to England at the end of the season.
Even if they do, they are likely to face considerable competition for a player whom would easily usurp Andrei Arshavin or Theo Walcott to take a place in the Arsenal line-up.
But for now Goetze represents just one possible future; he exists as an Arsenal player only in a parallel universe. In ours, Arsenal have Van Persie, and at present he may just be the best striker on the globe.

    Ha, rico!

    From the urban dictionary:

Sticker shock: A condition resulting from seeing the total price of a bunch of items and realizing the damage is much greater than you originally expected.

    Wahaha.

  102. agirlagunner says:

JM, that’s a good write-up. And van Perfect IS the best striker on the globe.

  103. Joaquim moreira says:

    Hello agirlgunner!

    Afternoon Gooners.
Afternoon Rico. I was sitting in traffic when i piped up about Jay the Gay.
I learnt the hard way. You just got to ignore them. Talk around them. They’re all bags of wind.
Boo Agag. How’s thing with ya..?
    Lee’s on holiday and your not…….. What’s happening? :-)
    DG\Stan. Howdy guys.

  105. rico says:

Hi JM – i don’t think Goetze is really in Wengers mind….

Yep, the next game is the most important and after that, the next….

RvP is certainly up there with the best, despite Andy Townsend saying otherwise…

I see agag, i should have guessed ;)

  106. rico says:

Hi AK, i wondered if that was the case ;)

  107. agirlagunner says:

JM, yeah, you just swat those little things away. :D

AK!!! I’ve just been on one. ;) Very scenic and relaxed. You guys should fly out to SE Asia (cough *rico* cough). A bit of a reprieve from your year-round cold.

I would like us to sign Hazard. I’m almost sure we would be unable to. ;(

  108. agirlagunner says:

You on your tea break, AK? I hope the cup is not spiked!

  109. Lee says:

Mines a double jay…. Ever had one you mug? As for recession its got a “C” in it you MONG!!

  110. allezkev says:

Sorry Agag. Rico’s holidaying in sunny Rye… :-)

  111. allezkev says:

Agag, 2 toast, 2 teas & a delicious rock cake.
    Hey Lee, how’s Cornwall?
Think that AW has to do some rotation this weekend otherwise we’ll pick up a couple of injuries.
AA MC Oxo Park. 2 or 3 of them to come in. Diaby to start maybe, give him 60 mins.

  112. rico says:

    :P agag

Good come back there Lee, the boy is a buffoon….

I’m still trying to find my dingy AK….

  113. allezkev says:

RVP on the bench. Kozzer might need a break as well.
Shame we haven’t got Cahill and/or Vertonghen to come in eh Rico?

  114. Lee says:

Lovely thanks AK, you don’t mind stick when it’s warranted but from a team that considers the pub cup as an achievement please…..

  115. allezkev says:

I have a feeling that Wenger is gonna do a ‘Sol Campbell’ & sign TH14 on a short deal.
Maybe only 2 or 3 months but that would suit me.
Don’t think that AW is gonna sign a striker.
Not with Afobe & Campbell [who should get a work permit next summer] in the pipeline.

  116. Lee says:

I’m outta here take care you rip roaring gunners!!

  117. allezkev says:

As i said Lee. A bag of wind. Forget the creep.
Glad to hear your having a good rest mate.
Just totally chill~out and give the old grey matter a break.
    Don’t forget the pasties… :-)

  118. allezkev says:

    Tea break over.
Have a good one you Gooners.

  119. agirlagunner says:

Ignore him, Lee! Not worth the bother.

Nice, AK. :) How many rock cakes do you have in a day?? I think Abou will get maybe 30 mins. I hope he does a Robin and goes injury free. I’m not his biggest fan, but he does score some great goals! And that our players rate him highly must mean he is capable of great things!

  120. rico says:

One might be in in Jan though AK ;)

Have a fab weekend Lee :)

  121. rico says:

Catch you guys in a bit, off to get dinner….

  122. goonster says:

    where did everybody go? Guys….

  123. goonster says:

Fulham ll be missing three key players..duff is one of them. Meaning santos should have a relatively easy game. Though jol reckons they can shut us out. He’s aiming to get a clean sheet.

  124. goonster says:

    Where is everybody….

  125. devilgunner says:

Hiya Goonster, old matey. you talking all alone?????

    Are you ok???

We had a gay scum troll over here today.

  126. goonster says:

Hi ya DG yeah I saw him was expecting you to drag his miserable soul to hell but you let your gooner nation down. Why are we friends with the devil if we don’t benefit from him?

  127. devilgunner says:

are you sure???? I just gave him one below the belt in case you did not notice!!!!!

  128. rico says:

Boo, back with a full tum…..

  129. goonster says:

So what are your views for the game tomorrow? Fulham is a tricky team but I see us coming ontop. 2:1 to the arsenal. Goals from theo and vermalin!

  130. EastSidePaul says:

Hey guys I found this interesting site here…

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_football_champions

I think the general gist of it is that Arsenal have won the league 13 times, where I think spurs have only won it twice (can that be right? Only twice? I’ve read that they have been around for a 128 years.. Only twice in a 128 years?)

  131. goonster says:

what are your thoughts for the game tomorrow? Should be a routine arsenal victory. It won’t be easy though fulham are tough customers. But I see an arsenal victory. 2:1 to the arsenal both goals by theo and TV5.

  132. rico says:

I see a home win but tight …

Gives them so much to shout about about doesn’t it Esp….

  133. goonster says:

ESP I can’t wait for the return leg. Those c**nts finally beat us in my life time and they think they are the Milan team of 88? I hope we thonk them. Can’t wait.

  134. goonster says:

Evening rico…my point exactly. It won’t be easy but thankfully they are going through a rough patch so maybe we could put a few pass them. Am thinking 5:0 but am not that lucky so I go for 2:1 to the arsenal.

  135. allezkev says:

Evening All. What’s going on ‘ere then?

  136. devilgunner says:

Like all games it will be a tough one tomorrow. However I think that we might have more than one gun in the locker. Having said that I would like to keep a clean sheet.

You have to pity the SGT (scum gay trolls). They have been through so much deprivation that even one day above AFC is like a trophy to them.

  137. rico says:

goonster, we will beat them at the Ems, especially if Wenger gets a couplemof players in Jan and RvP stays fit… Just wait for them to suffer an injury to one of their major players… And, i still wouldn’t be surprised to see Modric sign for the chavs… maybe in Jan??

  138. devilgunner says:

Hiya AK. Long time no see on HH. How are you mate??

Pa’s ok. reading your posts and all that you send him.

  139. rico says:

goonster, schwarzer is going through a good patch, beating him will be the biggest issue and i honestly don’t think that RvP will start :(

    Hey AK, busy day??

DG – if we keep a clean sheet we will get three points… ;)

  140. allezkev says:

It would make a pleasant change for Arsenal to keep a clean sheet…
    So i’m going for 2~0.
But in truth it’ll probably be 2~1 with RVP coming off the bench to get the winner!

  141. devilgunner says:

I am there with you AK. But I hope RVP wont be needed. I want others to score as well.

  142. rico says:

AK, I hope if RvP is rested, others step up and show their worth, i think he will rotate with diaby and aa starting – maybe even Oxo will start instead of Theo….

We should still have enough but it’s about time some of these well paid guys realise that rvp needs to be able to sit on the bench and watch his team do well with or without him….

  143. allezkev says:

    Mega busy Rico.
    Hello goodbye DG.
    Lata mates

  144. rico says:

    That’s good AK,busy means a good christmas….. ;)

    catch up soon…..

  145. rico says:

I am off for the day too guys, few things to do before the soaps and the other usual dross i love to watch…. ;)

be good all, stay safe and catch up tommorrow…

    Nighty night all……

  146. goonster says:

They ll be missing duff you guys so that ll be a licence for the santos and gervinho combo to wreck havoc on that left side. Etuhu and murphy ain’t the fastest players in the league. Barring the fatigue from wednesday we should thonk them. Rico am really looking forward to the spuds game at the EMS. Had chamahk put those chances away last season they could have been at the end of a hiding. I can’t wait though boy are they gonna get it. COYGs rip the scums to bits.

  147. devilgunner says:

I would still like to see Santos playing on the left wing, Goonster. He wreaks havoc playing as a left back, what can he do if he plays on the wing with no defensive duties to mind? Mind you….he already does that although not so often as he used.

    Good night Rico.

Hope you have a good shift AK. A busy Christmas means that you can live a better life!

  148. goonster says:

DG if santos plays on the wings…..who plays at LB?

  149. devilgunner says:

I know Goonster. That is why I do not want another winger to be bought if AA goes. I would prefer another left back bought and he can rotate with Gibbs. Santos would make a really great winger with no defensive duties on his mind. And his experience as a left back means he can simply help out.

  150. goonster says:

We are very “short’ in that department. If on gibbs wasn’t injury prone. Right now I don’t think he ll get the shirt of santos anymore. Our Brazilian wizard is here to stay. I love him so much.

  151. goonster says:

Now that ll be something else DG….well like I said previously. I don’t see us getting anybody in january or in the summer. Like wenger ll say “we have a large squad”. If he doesn’t sign anyone, I for one won’t be losing any sleep.

  152. devilgunner says:

I know we have a good squad Goonster. But if it were for me I would still tweak it and remove some of the players. I would certainly sell on AA. Dont get me wrong I like him. But what’s the use of keeping him when we play him out on the wing and out of position? We play 4-3-3 and AA is not suited to it. We need to play 4-4-1-1 for him to flourish. So either play him in his proper formation and position or sell him and get a proper winger/striker.

  153. goonster says:

DG we ve got campbell coming back in the new year or maybe in the summer. I don’t see us getting any striker as for wingers? What ll happen to ryo and the OX? No chance. No signing till 2013!

  154. goonster says:

Don’t forget afobe park and chamakh are still with us. We won’t be signing anyone in a while. Brace up.

  155. devilgunner says:

Campbell is a central striker. I agree with what you said….but shouldnt we be getting the best in every position instead of waiting till the 31st of FEBRUARY for them to mature???

  156. goonster says:

Hahahhah 31st of february! Good one DG.

  157. devilgunner says:

    I am off mate.

    Goodnight Goonster.

    Goodnight AK.

    See you all tomorrow.

Might not be on HH a lot. Will be at Pa’s house to see the game. But I will catch you all later.

    cu mates

  158. goonster says:

Anyway we can only dream he does. The rumors around geanero seems to be gathering pace. Hope we get him but I don’t think we will. We are well stocked in the middle….with LJW to come back in January. We won’t need players in the middle. I ve been wrong before though.

  159. goonster says:

    Good night DG….

  160. goonster says:

Seems everybody is gone…….oh well good night folks. Hopefully we ll thrash them tomorrow. COYGs come on!

  161. allezkev says:

    Rico; 7.54.
    Totally agree.
About time a few of Robin’s teammates shared the load.
Namely Gervinho Walcott and Chamakh if he plays.

  162. ` says:

    Don`t lose sleep then Goonster! I will lose enough for both of us, picturing the possibility of RvP and TV being injured at the same time. Surely AV must share our ambitions? He must have cover for key men. Perhaps he jests? Perhaps Podolski and Vortongen hav e already signed? I`m gropeing{?}
    here. You`ve hot spell
    ing as well.
