£17 Million for two teenagers, how silly is that?

If reports are true, it’s very silly if you ask me, why not just spend the same amount on one player who’s ready to get the shirt on and help make a difference to our current set up.

The two players we have supposedly made an offer for are Sime Vrsaljko and Mateo Kovacic, both of Dinamo Zagreb. The source of this rumour has come from Zagreb themselves. They say Arsenal sent a delegate to Croatia earlier this month in attempt to secure a deal for both players but vice chairman for the club; Zdvravko Mamic has turned down the bid.

Full-back Vrsaljko, 18, is considered one of the best defensive prospects in European football and has most of the Premier League and Europe’s elite chasing him.

16-year-old Kovacic is a highly-rated midfielder, and Dinamo have revealed that Arsenal sent a delegation to Croatia to try and do a deal for the pair earlier this month.

Vice Chairman Mamic said

Here were people from Arsenal and they were ready to pay 20 million Euros for Vrsaljko and Kovacic.
But they are to stay in Dinamo, Arsenal just wanted to buy them for the future. But my answer was sharp, I said ‘no’ in one second.

Mamic admits he is gambling on the pair becoming even more valuable in the future.

While I have space and no problems at our bank account I can take a risk, yes, I know I’m playing with luck but so far I am winning. I believe it will be the same in the future.

So even the players own club admit it’s a bit of a risk keeping them, why would we offer such a vast amount of money for ‘a risk’. We need now, not 6/7 years time. Added to that, if those two players turned out to be great players and we had been successful in our offer, Arsene Wenger won’t be the manager of our club by the time they get to play. Why he thinks so far ahead when we have so many problems right now is beyond me!

Another transfer rumour…

Just when you think our club needs a big strong 6’5” striker up front, you know the one, legs made of steel, head made of cast iron and holds no fear for any defender, the gossip about a new striker being scouted by the club comes about.
He’s Kévin Gameiro, born in May 1987 in Senlis. He currently plays for French club FC Lorient in Ligue 1. He can play as striker but can also be utilized on the wings and in the hole. Gameiro has played for his country at all respective age levels and this year had his first call up for the big boys..

Just what we want…? No, he stands just under 5’ 8” !!!

Earlier this week we saw Henri Lansbury leave on a month’s loan to Norwich City, well yesterday Aaron Ramsey followed in his footsteps and went out on loan. Ramsey has gone to Championship side Nottingham Forest until January. Another player currently on loan is Vito Mannone. He’s at Hull City until January but says he’s enjoying life by the seaside and would consider staying until the summer. He’s played the last two games for Hull, keeping clean sheets in both..

Finally – Other news around is that no-one really seems to know what’s up with Cesc Fabregas and why he keeps suffering injury. Whatever it is, it seems to be worrying the club and no doubt all fans!

That’s it for today….

Well, let’s keep those two names in mind and see what becomes of them. We’ve missed some huge talents before when we would have scoffed at their signings at a young age. C.Ronaldo being one, Di Maria another.

    Vrsaljko and Kovacic. Memorised.

    Morning Rico, Erick,

I think the “leak” of Arsenal’s interest in these two kids is the usual rubbish, normally spawned by agents, to get their latest so called “whizz kids” known.

I do not believe a word of it.

For Theo to sarcastically compare this sort of story with the purchase of Ronaldo is rubbish too.

Ronaldo was well known in footballing circles and playing for the first team at the time of his transfer.

Arsenal had made a bid for him and he was on the verge of signing for us when old Red Nose popped up and outbid us. He was bought for about £11m. So obviously he was hardly an unknown 16 year old!

Just read this splendid piece on ACLF:

Sorta rang a bell.. if those inbreds @ Anfield can keep their faith regardless of whatever is happening to/at their club (even while watching a painfully numb team on the pitch) & still contribute so much to keeping Anfield a fortress…. our home fans have to drop their heads in shame for not even trying to back their team vociferously & cheer them up when they most need it!… I mean it most certainly was a library last weekend, especially when u contrast the 2nd half with the 1st

Come to think of it, the home fans contributed to that cascading-sinking effect that the team was clearly feeling after the Scum’s 2nd goal.. Fans got shit-scared that we’d lose after that & this pervaded to the team, when a massive roar would’ve sent the Scum hiding behind a charged up Red&White attack!

I know it’s getting real tough to back this team with the way they’ve been playing (we certainly have our blogosphere to moan about it), but the home fans’ fair-weather friendship mentality certainly don’t help at all

  29. kelsey

    November 26, 2010 at 12:09pm

I am sure it does effect his concentration, yet the various reports in the tabloids, disappeared as quickly as they came.
I still think his job has become an obsession, and with literally a free hand to be involved in everything(which is quite unique today)he may actually be missing the very thing that the whole world clearly knows is missing from making us a real force to be reckoned with.

On the other hand he has vanity mixed in with his obsession and “is blind”to the obvious.

A few weeks ago he came out publically and told the media that he lies to protect the players. Now, all managers do that, but would he have ever said that a few seasons back, I doubt it.All his latest comments about bad tackling etc. seem to be coming back to bite him in the arsenal.
All this tells me is that the pressure is getting to him, not from the BoD but from the man himself.

  35. kelsey

    November 26, 2010 at 12:42pm

I wrote this earlier but it didn’t get on for some reason.

After a humiliating rather than disastrous week,we now read that Fabregas’s hamstring problems are unexplainable, except that he has played so much football, yet the fact that it is being compared to Michael Owen’s, even though he is more of a sprinter is a concern.

( I quote) Arsenal will now seek the best possible medical advice to find an explanation. We have analysed his body and it is not fatigued, said Wenger. We will consult every specialist we can” Sounds rather familiar to me.Rosicky saw umpteenth specialists in London and in the Czech Republic and missed two seasons,Walcott had an hereditary problem in his shoulders which wasn’t diagnosed until he had been at the club a number of years, and of course we have RVP and Diaby who though talented are forever injured.Add that to the loss of Vermaelen, most probably for the best part of this season, and this so called stronger squad in depth, now looks a bit frail.Wilshere will have to play more, for a young man in his first full season in the PL,is a big ask,and now with today being the last day for loans to be finalised, there is talk of JET going out on loan,Lansbury has already gone, though Ramsey’s short term loan makes sense. What about Carlos Vela, the forgotten man who is being brushed aside by Wenger, and the big talking but atrocious Bendntner, who possibly had his worst game in an Arsenal shirt at Braga. You can’t blame Wenger for everything but the medical team really should be made accountable. This has been going on far too long.

  36. Gunnernet

    November 26, 2010 at 1:40pm

Hi, Wenger just doesn’t get it does he? How on earth does he decide to go for 2 18 year-old again for nearly 20 million, when we have such a mediocre squad. But i forgot that this is the best squad we ever have really mr Wenger? Players who play due tyo AW’s favourness : Clichy, Denilson, Song, Diaby not to mention our keepers. Yes all of them are good players but : Clichy is a bad defender who cannot cross.. Why should we keep him? Song is a good midfielder but i want him focused on the defensive half and not the offensive one. We have plenty of stars for this. He said earlier this season that he wanted to score more goals. NO this is wrong. We want u to stop our opponents because u can do it. And no silly fouls please around our area.. What about Diaby. He is an excellent dribbler with really high level of technique for his size, but he is highly incosistent and injury prone. But i haveto admit that he alongside TV are the 2 players we most miss the past weeks. And then Denilson. Overall an average player with a powerful strike. But this player could never haave done it at Utd or Chelski. Vela will be a goner soon too. Nikki needs to shut it up and Kozzer with Squil need to regain our acceptance again.. My line-up of who deserves to play at the moment at Villa park :

    Sagna Djourou Koscielny Gibbs

Nasri Song ? (we badly miss Diaby right now)

Nikki (yes no Theo) Chamakh Arshavin
